So much post-0079 mechanical design in Gundam is completely nonsensical. There are cartoonish suits in First Gundam, sure (Zeon aquatic suits and mobile armors, for example), but they adhere to an internal logic: there is an idea of what each suit is, what it's supposed to do, where it's supposed to be used, how it moves, what it's modeled after, etc. To see how later designs don't have the same degree of thought put into them, let's look at the Dijeh. The Dijeh is supposed to have been developed from the Rick Dias, which is based on the old Dom line. That does something to make sense of the fact that it's strictly ground-type/incapable of operation in space. But doesn't it look like it leans more towards the Gelgoog in a lot of ways? The shape of its head, its linear monoeye rail... not to mention the whole "beam naginata coming standard" thing. Is it a ground-type Gelgoog? A Gelgoogified Dom? Its wing binders are reminiscent of the Zeta line, as well... did the merger of Zeonic and Anaheim Electronics lead to total MS-engineering conceptual confusion? The stout, weighty build of the Dom, without hover functionality? A movement away from the inhuman design of the Dom by giving the suit a distinct head and linear monoeye rail, but a movement back towards it through the inclusion of the detailed winglike balancers/binders? It's like these guys don't even know what they want to build. Like they just threw a bunch of tropes or conventions at the wall until they found a combination that stuck. What happened? Apathy? Change in talent? Bandai?

Yeah it's a cartoon.
>>22951445It's science fiction. Can all un-lame non-nerds please vacate the thread?
No one has done more to destroy UC's setting than Tomino
>>22951464They kept harassing him to "do more Gundam," so he did more Gundam. That is, to continue a finished story. At least he got his groove back in time to make CCA, the only other piece of Gundam media as absolutely airtight as the original.
>>22951438In Zeta Gundam you have Zeonic engineers being absorbed into the Federation and working for them.As a result the Zeta MS are a fusion of Federation and Zeonic aesthetics. The Hizack is a good example. Also the Marasai. The idea behind the designs is that they're just playing around with new technology as the feddies get their hands on zeon tech.By the 0090s everything became a lot more standardized again as both sides figured out what worked for them.
