Mono eyes: what is their deal? They're evidently the oldest MS camera technology, older even than the Zaku line, when mobile suits were colony construction machines. Soon after the start of the OYW the Feds already develop their own camera tech for the Gundam and the GMs, which must at least be marginally better since the Federation would have had access to mono-eye tech seeing as it existed pre-Zeon. So the Federation wins the war and after a couple of years of making GMs and Gundams they begin to produce mobile suits exclusive for the Titans, their elite forces, and these top of the line machines use ... mono eyes. Then some years after that Char, who is so salty about wanting an equal match against Amuro that he leaks his secret psychoframe tech to Anaheim so that they could install it on the Nu Gundam. And Char's overpowered, super-advanced, custom-made MS also uses a mono eye. And they continue in use up until a couple of years before F91 where the tech finally becomes completely phased out and never makes a come back (until G Saviour)So are they lesser tech? Did they become improved to the point where they were equal with other types of sensors? Are they maybe worse in some aspects but better in others? Are they equally effective but cheaper? How much better are Crossbone Vanguard and Zanscare eyes?

>it's another monoeye thread
>>23013559well its probs something like conventional vs bullpup rifle design where one is seemingly better than the other at everything but in reality advantages/disadvantages are too marginal to matter so it just comes down to production cost/preference

>>23013559There's advantages and disadvantages to both, not least of which is ideas and identities associated with them.
>>23013559The mono-eye probably uses less energy than Federation sensors (more numerous), which is ideal since nearly every iteration of Zeon often has to work with less resources. Post-principality incarnations of Zeon are basically terrorists (constantly on the move to avoid being found), so being able to stay operational for longer means cutting down power consumption. The Titans are hunting down remnants in space (likely far from Federation territory), so ideally they would want the same advantages.
Mono eyes are better in one-on-one combat due to a focused field of vision and a higher resolution on a single target. Multi-eye sensor arrays are better for wide FOV many-target environments like battles. Mono-eyes are best for duels and marksmen.
>>23013559Monoeyes have better long range target acquisition, gundam-styly dual eyes have better close quarters tracking
>>23013559There are good reasons to have or not to have backup sensors. They cost and weigh more, but can divide their sensing capabilities into different areas to provide better overall coverage. Like the Type 055 destroyer which China is currently building, which has one long-range main radar and one short-ranged radar for self-defense.
