I recently finished pic related and I had a great time all the way through, without belittling the other Gundam OVA's, I felt like it was the strongest one. However, as I was watching I kept remembering some comments I'd read in the past mentioning there was a change in directors midway through and the changes ruin the whole thing, but I couldn't really notice anything that felt out of place in the second half, after finishing I did some investigation and found out the first director passed away and someone else had to finish it, but honestly couldn't notice what those comments were talking about. Even the epilogue episode, which I'd read was "out of place" and unnecessary felt like, well, just an epilogue. Is this a general feeling among Gundam fans? Compared to Stardust Memories it felt like a much better executed project.
>>23014024I feel the same, I think it had the strongest execution out of the 90s OVAs, but I don't really care about the soap drama.
>>23014024I LOVE THIS SONG!https://youtu.be/URvaDE1PklU?si=7UllfXxS7v0dHOaZ
Stardust memories had the same thing where there was a change in directors in about episode 7-8. I did like how they handled Sander's apprehension early on being called the reaper and how resolving that just made him a more loyal soldier. >>23014077This song was also good, since it played in ep 6https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nlLxVybfJ4
I enjoyed 08th, currently rewatching it actually. It's overflowing with tomboys, too.
>>23014024I also recently finished this. A lot of people told me the romance was awful, but I didn't mind it. The show was nothing new, but what it did do was all executed pretty well. I generally liked all the characters and the fights were well done. Was surprisingly less gritty/grim dark than I thought a show about grunts would be though.
>>23014024I was not convinced that a man would become infatuated with an enemy he had met for 2 minutes and betray his side for her.
iirc it's like...episode 6 or so that was the last episode the original director did. It was the one where the two are on that snowy mountain together. It's really hard not to notice if you're aware and watching for it. There's a MASSIVE fucking tonal shift right after the episode with the attack on the uoh tomboys village. Everything becomes a lot more melodramatic, the characterization is either sublty off (in the case of some of the team members) or completely exaggerated (the main villain suddenly turning into a dr hell tier cartoon villain who gases and bombs his own dudes so he can rant about mommy issues in his super weapon).I think the writing, tone, characterization, is just way better across the board in the first half of the show.
>>23015984AKA "I read somewhere that the second half is bad so I watched it thinking it was bad already".
>>23015992I really just like the first half with more natural balance of humor and action, more down to earth characters and situations, etc. a lot better, anon. That episode with the two goobers jailed behind enemy lines and afraid they're gonna get executed is great.
>>23015921That's my problem with the ending too. I don't know why it's supposed to be painted in a good light. Sure war bad yeah, but shiro also betrayed his loyal comared. Sure his subordinates didn't hold it against him but if I was karen i'd shoot his ass right there,
>>23015382she counts?
