So how many gundams were actually active during the one year war?
>>23018753100
One. The Gundam.
>>23018753Without counting I'd guess around 50 with a big chunk of those being ground types.
About tree fiddy.
>>23018753A very small number given it's a war spanning nearly all of human civilization, some 5 billion souls and thousands of mobile suits deployed on either side. A bit under a 100 if you count each individual Ground Type unit is literally a rounding error on that scale, vast majority of people never encountered any of them.
Well we get a new one every once in a while, so the question to ask is: how many of these Gundams were as strong and special as the one in the original series? The Ground Gundams were basically GMs with spare Gundam parts, as was the EZ-8. I think the Blue Destinies also fall into this category except for the EXAM system which was just software. So then we have Alex, made for Amuro, and the EX as a primitive Newtype-specific unit. The Alex seems to be a straight upgrade to the RX-78-2, and EX I genuinely can't say, but it didn't seem to be very exceptional minus the Newtype pilot. The we had the Pixie, which IIRC was also basically a simplified Gundam. Gundam Units 4 and 5 were "real" Gundams equal to the one on the White Base. Is there anyone I'm missing?
>>23018777The one from Requiem for Vengeance seems like it's just below the OG Gundam power wise. And there's also the RX-78-1 and the G3. If you count Thunderbolt there's the Full Armor Gundam. Other than that, every one I can think of is a post-OYW unit or a napkinwaffe.
>>23018777>I think the Blue Destinies also fall into this category except for the EXAM system which was just software.EXAM system exists as a special computer in the head. It's also a retroactive explanation why BD-1 had a GM's head instead of the Gundam head that the Ground Gundam body originally would have had, they started off with a Ground GM but wanted higher performance for additional tests so they transplanted the GM head that contained the EXAM system to the Ground Gundam body.>EX as a primitive Newtype-specific unitAt least Alex was hyper tuned and efficient for newtype reflexes, but I don't think the EX was meant for a newtype at all. It was more that the newtype kid was the best pilot they had available for the EX.
>>23018753An ever increasing number, because there will always be new OYW side stories that introduce new super special Gundams that we've just so happened to have never seen or heard of before.
>>23018753at least 78-2
>>23018753RX-78-1: one or more built at Jaburo. Some converted to the RX-78-2 spec later.RX-78-2: three units at Side 7 for testing. One ends up piloted by Amuro. Some spare parts taken aboard White Base, later returned at Jaburo where it was used to build a single RX-78-3 that tested the magnetic coating.RX-78-4 and RX-78-5: one each existed, in the manga "Space, To the End of A Flash" and Encounters in Space PS2 game.RX-78-6: one existed in the Zeonic Front PS2 game.RX-78-7: one existed in the Gundam Senki 0081 PS3 game.RX-78 NT-1: one unit in the 0080 OVA. Old magazines or fanon said NT-1 is the RX-78-4 unit, and/or a second red unit exists, not made clear.RX-78XX Pixie: 3 ground-use units exist in some video games only.RX-79: 20 of these ground-use types were built, features in the 08th MS Team OVA.FA-78-1 (and -1b subtype): supposedly exists only on paper as a rejected addon package for the RX-78-2, but then some stories feature one being used in combat.FA-78-2: apparently up to three were built depending on the story and manga. Differs by being a heavy MS instead of addon armor and weapons for regular RX-78 models.Thunderbolt FA-78 is a different interpretation of the FAG types and only exists in that story, it is like the -1 in that it's an addon package for a basic Gundam. Thunderbolt's RX-78 Atlas is also unique to that manga as a high mobility all-terrain design.Gundam the Origin introduces a new development from their RX-78-01 model called the Gundam local type that led to the RX-79 units and the FA-78 series.Depending on the manga and game interpretation of canon which ranges from strict to loose as fuck, they may mostly adhere to existing info (MSV-R Johnny Ridden largely builds on top of existing continuity) or not give a fuck and feature units that sorta aren't supposed to exist (Gundam Katana, Hidden Shadow of G, etc). All of these units might be shown in differing and conflicting views and functions according to the story.
>it is the year 3025>the UC Timeline is still the same as it was, with Sunrise refusing to explore late UC>The push for nostalgia is still going on, with many side stories, games, shows, etc.. all focused around the OYW to Unicorn era>The OYW now has over 10,000 unique Gundams that somehow all existed in the same time period
>>23018753As many as bandai needs to keep making money off kits.
>>23018959There is also the one in the op the RX-78(G) which I don't think we know anything about outside of being deployed on earth near the end of the war and got backstabbed by a Gouf.
One (1).
>>230189597th and Heavy are post-war suits
>>23018972>>23018984it's copypasta from a few years back, I think
>>23018959Wait, Atlas is supposed to be an RX-78? The fuck?
>>23018777GMs themselves were only barely worse than the rx-78 in terms of specs. The biggest difference being the armor and only having a budget beam spray gun(if even that) instead of a full sized rifle.
>>23019140they call it The RX-78AL in the anime
>>23019140Yes, I'm so sorry
>>23018959For what it's worth, I think the Thunderbolt anime is supposed to take place in the main UC continuity since they only cover the first two story arcs and don't get into a lot of the weirder stuff from later on.
>>23019184>>23019200But doesn't it use a completely different frame?
>>23019261so do other RX-78 units
>>23019268Is the Physalis canonically related to the Rick Diaz/Gamma Gundam or is this a fan made thing? I know the Delta program that produced the Hyaku Shiki is supposed to be descended from the Blue Destiny series.
>>23019261they all rook same
>>23019271Some sources heavily hint that the Rick Dias descends from the GP02's body structure.http://www.mechatalk.net/viewtopic.php?p=240612>It's mentioned in the MG Rick Dias kit manual that the Rick Dias was developed using a pre-existing Federation frame. In itself, that's a little vague, but spinoff publications like Anaheim Journal have seized on this hint to claim that the Rick Dias was literally based on the frame of the GP02A.>The development chart in [Entertainment Bible] 46 also links the GP02A to the Prototype Rick Dias, which of course leads to the Rick Dias.>* From the Mobile Suit in Action figure data sheet: "The Rick Dias is a machine descended from the Gundam and Dom, and it's said that it also inherits technology from the mysterious GP series.">* A little more specifically, from the recent "Encyclopedia of Gundam": " The Rick Dias secretly incorporated knowhow obtained from the Gundam Unit 2 of the deleted Gundam Development Project."
>>23019271>I know the Delta program that produced the Hyaku Shiki is supposed to be descended from the Blue Destiny seriesI gotta know, what's the link? Are you talking about the later Delta Kai being fitted with the NITRO system which is yet another EXAM knockoff and possible bridge to NT-D?
>>23018753It's always X amount of Gundams.
>>23018963>and now, in OYW, Gundams outnumber MS of every other type combined
>>23019268>Give it some of the coolest looking shoulder armor/binders of any gundam>Make the rest of the MS ugly as fuckSuch wasted potential
>>23018753>So how many gundams were actually active during the one year war?Not as many as Zaku variations.
