It'll take you a couple of days to learn the ins and outs of the game. Knowledge of game mechanics as well as maps will carry you for a long time.

That depends entirely on what your favorite MS are and how much time you want to spend grinding the game. Older MS are available in the shop for in-game currency, but some are locked for purchase until you reach a certain rank that basically requires you to complete a minimum number of matches. Newer MS that you want will have to be obtained by spending tokens on rolling, or you can wait 1 year? until they become available in the shops.

It's a direct port of the console game. That is to say, aiming and weapon switching is easier on PC than console, but there are certain quirks to the game that will remind you that it was designed for console first and PC second.

your hamma-hamma is actually quite strong in this game, a very good suit but it takes some getting used to since it utilizes hover movement and the only instant stagger it has is the lock-on wires and the slow floating mines (useful for making approaching you difficult)
as for using what you like, long as you're good enough to do well with it, but some suits are straight up better than others. popular meme in the community about the eyezack being a mark of a horrible player

my reccomendations? i'm gonna reccomend a Raid, Gen and Support in that order for each cost, these are good enough to not be throwpicks, but also not too OP as to carry you without letting you learn anything

though a disclaimer, i think some of these are exclusive to the gacha table, but you get 3 tokens a day (start dash gives you 9 a day for a week, so 63 tokens total), and the game gives out free rolls every now and then
most of the playerbase has failed upwards into A- and A flat, so getting matches in the lower ranks will be a little more difficult, but just be patient
most importantly: be a team player. if there's an enemy fighting your teammate, turn that 1v1 into a 2v1, which the game's balance makes very hard to win normally, even with the OP suits

Balance is generally kind of terrible. Newly released units tend to come with absurd skills and weapons that make them dominate matches in the hands of above-average players, and even if blindingly obviously overpowered, will not receive nerfs until several months after release. This is almost definitely an underhanded tactic by the publisher and devs to make people spend real money on gacha rolls to try to obtain the new units. Old units often feel neglected and sometimes rarely ever receive buffs.

There's a rock-paper-scissors triangle in the game where MS are classified as general, raid, or support. Speaking broadly, generals are supposed to be balanced types, raids are higher damage output, kinda fast, but a bit fragile, and supports specialize in firepower but tend to lack mobility. There are some units that play a bit counter to their type, but on the whole that's the way most units are. How it's implemented is that your weapons get a damage boost when hitting enemies that you have advantage on, and slight damage decrease against the ones you have disadvantage on. It's not supposed to make your life hell, but support feels like the red-headed stepchild of the family that gets the short end of the stick all the time, there are way more high powered generals and raids than there are supports.

Based on your list of favourite series, there's plenty of good MS to use from there. However, every MS has a native cost. Taking the Hamma-hamma (native 600 cost) into a match where the Unicorn (700 cost) exists is the same as intentionally losing. There is a (poorly balanced) level system for matching lower cost suits into battle with higher cost units, but there's no actual benefit 100% of the time, your 700 cost level 3 Hamma-hamma will still underperform compared to native 700 cost units.

You can only use whatever is available at a cost. So if you're using a LVL1 Hamma-Hamma you can only use that at 600 cost but you won't see Unicorns at 600 because they're a 700 cost MS usually. However depending on the custom lobby, you can use whatever you like if it's unrestricted but I wouldn't recommend it. Quick matches also allow you to use suits below the current available cost, so if it's 700 cost you can use all suits below that cost. Again I don't recommend doing that. Balance is abhorrent btw.

Prioritize doing your dailies. 3 tokens a day.
You want to save for a step-up banner that gives a guaranteed mobile suit at the end.
There are also monthly missions but they are a bit of a grind.
Periodically there will be limited missions that give out various things, those are good to do.
There is a set of pve missions that swap out every few months that reward tokens as well.
Levels are part of the cost system. A Level 1 mobile suit is in its natural habitat. A level 2 mobile suit can participate in the next cost up with slightly higher stats to compensate (these are generally regarded as lesser than the level 1 suits at that cost, however).

Levels relate to cost, lv1 is the base version. Lv2 is 50 points higher, 3 is 100, etc. Generally speaking, anything past lv2 isn't worth playing(exceptions exist, but usually depend on special parts and aren't something you should worry about right now). As far as what you should be doing, clear out all the tutorials for some resources and the simulation room to the left of the normal queuing person, then buy some lv1 DP suits. Someone else might have some recommendations for you as I can't remember what's available at low levels. The occasional guaranteed out of a pool banner might also be good, if you want most of the guaranteed ones.

There are dailies/monthlies and "limited missions" which last about 2 weeks. The dailies for tokens are worth it and you should try do them every day. They're balanced around being completed in 3 matches or so and if you just want to get them easily you can go in "AB rooms" in customs, which are basically just games where the B team lets the A team win for grinding purposes. The limited missions also usually have pretty good rewards and don't repeat so you should proritize them. Monthlies are only worth it depending on how much time you're willing to waste grinding. It's nearly impossible to get the platinum monthly rewards (completing 38 monthlies within the first 9 days of the month) without spending money, so keep that in mind. There are also daily crates (2-6 depending on how many monthlies you've completed) with random suit/weapon/resource drops in them. These have a stupidly low base drop rate of like 10% and generally not worth grinding for, especially outside of AB rooms, unless you're a NEET and have lost control of your life

Levels mean the a suit is an additional 50 points above its native cost with each level above 1. Generally you don't want to use uplevel suits with a few exceptions and even with them you usually want "overtune" parts for them (parts that scale with suit level) which I seriously doubt you have any.

Colors that stand out absolutely get you shot more, reds, golds, neon colors of any shade get you shot simply because you can be seen easier and people tend to tunnel in on the first suit they see. Probably the latter, it does at least have strong melee priority but it's not really equipped to handle 700 with how much they keep piling on creep. A year ago I wouldn't have thought twice if I saw one, today it struggles to keep up hard. That said, it does at least have damage control 2, which is pretty nice in the modern build stagger heavy meta.

Honestly a guncannon doesn't need heavy arms, it would do better as a full armor. Same with Geara Dog's, they did not need all those equipment and weapons, had they full ballistic and beam armor they wouldv won

Keep in mind my total game experience is less than one day. I got my bad time in a 650 cost Gallus-J which was the only MS I had with more than one ballistic weapon (too many wepaons honestly, this thing is a clown machine. need to figure out better weapon switches). Also it seems that sometimes Zam just decides to focus and stunlock you constantly. Still not used to the sheer amount of stunlocks in the game.

I wanted to ask, what's the deal with parts and weapons? Is this a genshin system where each class has its own gear? Do you need to roll for the legendary SSR golden funnel? etc.

custom parts can be equipped on anything but takes up a few slots in return. for raids, stack thrusters and damage, for generals stack HP and resistance, for supports stack ranged damage and reload parts (generator for lasers, quick loader for ballistic)
as for weapons, upleveled weapons can only be used on upleveled suits (a lv4 heat hawk can only be used on lv4 zakus that use said heat hawk), but some suits do have alternate weapons (nemo, for example, can use a sniper cannon as an option compared to the zook or MGs it can use). if you have the option, always go for the instant stun one (there are some exceptions such as the Zaku 2 F2 which is far better off using the AA gun due to its 2-shot stagger, think of it as a revolver with a grenade launcher attached to it)
the 'SSRs' in this game are the 4* and 5* suits, but no matter how rare/good the suit is, it'll still be shit with a bad pilot in it. some suits carry harder than others (demeter outright carries you with how many options it has, it's a 750 suit in 650) but yeah, maybe i'm talking shit i don't know but i'm rather jaded to the game's gacha system

TL;DR: the thing you're actually rolling for is the suit itself, any weapons that it can equip are usually found on other suits, or in the DP shop
for example
>the 500 cost Raid, GM NS Space Type, can equip the Fedayeen Rifle (and is better off doing so), but you must buy a Hambrabi or Gabthley in order to equip it, because the Lv1 cannot be bought off the DP shop unlike other weapons
there's a lot of per-suit situations. use the game's "Database" menu to figure out what suits equip what weapon (GM Striker can equip Pixy LA's scythe instead of its native spear, and vice versa for the Pixy LA)

Btw when did efreet jaeger become the meta 450 cost?
It’s been around forever and I bought the dlc pack a while ago, but usually outside of me using it I consistently see one or two of them running around now.
Did it get buffed, or did people wake up to it now?

>camera gun spots for 45s for your entire team and you get 3% damage towards spotted targets (nullifies someone else's stealth)
its literal only weaknesses are that the snipers are stop-to-fire (lol) and has no MA (also lol)
