And the award for most boring/uninteresting main mech goes to.....the Siegfried from macross.
>>23030563i like the cannon and missile pod thingy or whatever it is, makes it look cooler than most macross mecha to me
And the award for most boring/uninteresting thread goes to.....OP! From Faggotville!
>>23030566Durandal started it and Chronos used it better.
>>23030569Are you really gonna defend Delta?
>>23030590Yes.
The Siegfried is the first Valkyrie where the staff remembered every mounted weapon and how to incorporate them into action scenes.
Anyone here know where to get this cheaper than $300
>>23030630Except the robot mode. They dropped that.
>>23030563all the hero variants from Frontier-onwards look the sameKawamori peaked at Macross Plus
>>23030636Fighter mode is the most important mode
>>23030582ok
>>23030686
>>23030563I think it would have been fine if they remembered it could transform into a robot. No one wants to watch 20 episodes of the heroes getting their ass kicked in samey dogfights by asshole villains the writers inexplicably love.
>>23030644In what world do these look remotely similar?
>let's take most basic grunt unit from the most popular show>add extra eyes so we don't get sued>and make it main roboCan't get any more boring that bootleg zaku.
>>23030582they both look worse
>>23030734But that is what makes the Scope Dog so cool.
>>23030742Wrong
>>23030744What makes it cool? How is it cool?Zaku is by design made to be boring, green, fodder mech for flashy, colorful Gundam to crush in large numbers.
>>23030644nah, Messiah was awesome
>>23030563Personally I liked the YF-30's take on this Transformation scheme the most.My only qualms is I wish it made more use of the missile pod, they should've essentially used it the same way the Strike Gundam's striker packs work.Makes the VF even more versatile.
>>23030762Oh And I wish the wings were able to fold up more neatly as well.
>>23030563Glad this thing has zero good fights in delta, makes it easy to identify as a bad mech.
>>23030734Yeah but they go wrrrrrr when they slide around though
>>23030775>Yeah but they go wrrrrrr when they slide around thoughLike gimme a mecha series that doesn't do that. It's a standard. It's a staple. It has to be some Obari Super Robot 12 episode show to not have it (and it will still have it hidden somewhere)
How come people who keep posting about how Kawamori just reskins the VF25 endlessly never talk about the Sv262 and 303
>>23030750>mid wing engine bullshit>skinny ass anorexic battroid>ugly head>wastes a badass name> shit paint schemesorry chief, thats the definition of worse
>>23030750Nah the guns are smaller and symmetrical
>>23030772Wrong, it had plenty. We’re in real Macross World boomer hours here.
>>23030644>Kawamori peaked at Macross PlusAnd it only got worse from there.
>>230308270 is not plenty.
>>23030870This looks awesome
>>23030870Battroid mode has an eating disorder, but the fighter mode is sweet
>>23030563Hard disagree, I really like the VF-31. It's a really smooth and slick refinement of the design trends that started with the VF-19. The integrated cannon under the arms is great, as is the refinement of the turret mechanism with the primary cannon. It shows a bringing together of the good ideas of the VF-25 and the YF-29 into a production package. In particular no longer being reliant on the primary cannon to have effective firepower on the arms is great, it's the gradual tech progression that I absolutely adore from Macross.Looking at the gerwalk mode in combat in particular though you can see how it ended up such a hanger queen that no regular outfit wanted to deal with it, which I also think is probably my favourite excuse ever to make a valkyrie 'special' within the relatively grounded procurement and R&D of Macross.>>23030786I don't know why but I find it hilarious that the Draken III is such a not-Draken that he just straight up took the name and made it a successor.
>>23030884
>>23030870Delta had great designs
>>23030930Lying is bad for you.
>>23030947C'mon man
>>23030644>Kawamori peaked at Macross PlusI blame the CG.
>>23030563And yet it has one of the best DX Chogokin figures. It's a fucking amazing design in terms of being adaptable to toy format.
>>23031012Nah, not really. Zero, Frontier and Delta had amazing designs and all of those shows were CGI.
>>23031343>Zero, Frontier had amazing designsYes>and DeltaNo.
>>23031350If saying it would only make it so. Delta had great designs whether you like them or not.
>>23030871>I read every facebook post about this show trust me.
I miss seeing line art like this.
>>23031386No, he's right. The 31 and the Draaken aren't bad in aircraft mode, but they're just dull in general. It didn't help that most of the combat was, too (with a handful of exceptions) and that whoever was in charge seemed to have forgotten what a missile was outside a few moments that were themselves also quite uninteresting. Such a damned waste of potential.
>>23032073That's grossly short selling the Sv262, up until it debuted the entire idea of a single engine form factor VF didn't really exist, and while I'm pretty sure it reuses some tricks from other designs Kawamori has conceived of in the year between (the arm assembly I'm sure is a variation of what the VF-9 Cutlass does for its arms) for a design that gets full animated portrayal it's all revolutionary stuff. I mean, sure it might look kinda ordinary in battroid, even though the head being the nosecone is also pretty new stuff last I recall, but if you're into the mechanical evolution as it unfolds both within and outside of the setting it's a fascinating first step into a new world of plane silhouettes that Macross can now homage. We live in a world where the F-104 has a VF interpretation now, and that couldn't happen without Kawamori figuring out the Draken.
https://fxtwitter.com/GuardConvoy/status/1877381625421480383Macross Delta is coming to NA Disney+ and Hulu
>>23033276This is a reminder to not watch delta.
>>23030563The head on the other variants made it look more interesting, especially the face/ears on Messer's.
>>23030870Did they ever make a kit of this one? I'd love to try enamel fluorescents for once. The thing having four forms and the big monoeye is cool.
>>23030563
>>23030630I don't remember the Siegfried being shown USING any mounted weapons apart from the gun in each forearm
>>23032801That may be, but it didn't come across well in the show at all. I'll certainly try to keep it in mind if I ever watch Delta again, though that's pretty unlikely.
>>23030563Love the A variety due to the wings. Not sure why Delta is supposed to be bad, guess I'll find out when I watch it.
>>23033432It's more of a story thing than the variable fighter design specifically being bad, but yeah, go have a watch
>>23033398Fair enough, my exposure to Delta is admittedly through the DX Chogokins and secondhand info from /m/.If Delta were judged by the toys alone it'd surely be praised to high heaven, they're bangers up until you get to the Kairos Plus and its persistent fit issues, but the Siegfrieds are all really cool and can be seen as throwbacks of a sort to the VF19 of M7 much as Frontier's VF25 is a throwback to the VF1 of SDF. That, and if you ever saw what the YF30 had to do to work as a DXC fig, the 31 just comes off as such an improvement for no longer requiring bracer parts to maintain structural stability.
>>23030734zakus already looked cool, votoms just made them look even cooler and the have a punch canon thing
>>23030782gundam doesnt do it, gundams run or fly the dont slide
>>23033432Try and watch it without too much exposure to the negative takes you tend to see on here. If you end up disliking it that's fine, but a lot of people go in basically primed with reasons to hate it and never actually give the show a chance.I quite liked it myself but the western fanbase is a little split on it, I'd argue for aesthetic reasons more than anything but that's neither here nor there. Some people feel the films 'fixed' it too, so if you don't like the show you might still want to check out the retelling from that.
>>23033550>but the Siegfrieds are all really coolNo, they are bland and boring.
>>23033432Don't watch delta, it's bad.
>>23033432>Not sure why Delta is supposed to be badA lot of reasons, but one in particular is how they hype up the mc as a battleroid savant and then never have him use it.
>>23033612It's important to judge things on their own merits, but you also shouldn't knee-jerk treat it as amazing just because others shit on it and it turns out not to be completely devoid of value. Not sure that ends up being worse, but it's certainly not much better.Honestly, any sort of in-depth review before watching something seems like an increasingly bad idea.
>>23033660Oh for sure. Personally I went in without much context beyond 'people on /m/ seem to hate it' and ended up quite enjoying it. Not perfect, but I wasn't exactly going in thinking about 'man fuck those guys I'm going to love this'. Based on what a few other people around here have said about their own experience, and how inescapable people's negative takes are on here, I just think it's good to let people know there's a bit of a divide over it.It's also just very tiring having enjoyed a fair few things that you can't mention without drawing a few reflexive comments about, and also not having particularly cared for Frontier which people will suck off to no end.
>>23034127Because Frontier is good and Delta is bad. Those are objective facts.
>>23033647Nah. They are all cool as shit.
>>23034201No, they are just shit.
>>23034127I wonder how much of a difference it would've made if I'd had the whole thing available instead of watching it as it came out. Didn't spend much time in the threads (right there with you on it being exhausting), but the time between episodes is rife for speculating even if you don't particularly try to and the show barely delivered on anything I'd hoped it would. I don't hate Delta, though, and the negativity to it is... stronger than it deserves. There's certainly bits that are good even if I think overall it's quite weak.
