I just came up with a weird observation after seeing the generic grunt outfits Challia and Simus were in.
According to Gundam Sousei, Yas fell ill in the back half of '79 and thus could no longer contribute to the workload of that show. Maybe that's the reason Lalah never got a proper soldier uniform until the movies and the Newtype Corps normal suit was so bulky?

If Char successfully Gundamjacked it from Side 7 then that cripples the Federation's ability to produce capable mobile suits that oppose Zeon. I'm not sure it ever got manufactured at all. If Zeon won the OYW with the Gundam at the forefront of its technology then the arms race wouldn't really happen because that was such a crucial point for further development for both sides. Zeon needed to beat the Gundam and its derivatives, and the Federation used the Gundam as the basis for its MP units.

So no arms race, no need for the Big Zam to be developed at all.

it's simple really, zakus have a very specific aesthetic to them and other grunts are better off carving their own path if they've deviated too much. even when the feds made zakus, the hizack and marasai did not stray significantly from zaku aesthetics. i actually quite enjoy the graze and leo, but as their own families in the great history of grunt mecha and not as zaku derivatives specifically.
the gcucks zaku is explicitly in the zaku family, but it's also bad at being a zaku. any zaku that's worse at being one than the hizack is already terrible, but it might rate even lower than the geara zulu since it has GM-style legs.
