She probably does have some idea about his struggles but is more passive about it. Amuro isn't really jaded in CCA. He's just aloof, which is something he's always been. If he was really jaded, he would have allowed Char to drop Axis onto Earth. There are still loads of scenes of him being both receptive and loving with Chan.
