What's the deal with this game?
Every now and then I read about parallel universes, conspiracies and all sort of lore on this game but I swear I don't remember anything like that when I played it, it was just a fairly enjoyable tactical rpg with friendship/romance elements.

The only thing I remember from this franchise was the opening of Gunparade Orchestra because I still find it so damn catchy. I remember /a/nons on /a/ were fans of Gunparade March. Very few fans of Gunparade Orchestra probably because it only gave a few episodes to different student groups.
In the end both series were adverts for a series of PS1 games. So was Gate Keepers now that I think about it.

The whole parallel universe thing is that this is part of a big crossover universe between a bunch of unrelated Sony and Alfa Systems games. The crux of this crossover is the Mars Daybreak game (Mars Daybreak was originally going to be a game franchise, but the anime came first and overshadowed the mediocre game), which has characters and plot ties to all the other unrelated games part of this universe.

like >>23041512 said, It's a bit complicated but from what I get it's also linked to Mars Daybreak and a few other franchises, at least, the video games. since it was part of a big crossmedia thing with Sony, where they did games and anime and they all had links between each others (I believe you could do some kind of save transfers? A lot of games did that back during the PS2, but those includes different franchises)
however, the anime are more or less standalone, so the crossovers are mostly on the game part.

this crossmedia thing was later abandoned, and so were these franchises. the reason why they were never in SRW is probably because they are deep in Sony's vault.

Speaking of Mars Daybreak, the PS2 game was really weird too, it wasn't at all like the anime, and instead was some kind of realistic simulator

The marketing bullshit was all over the place during the PS1 and PS2 eras when it came to videogame tie ins.
