The only thing going for 0083 was the kino artstyle and animation. Probably the peak aesthetic. It's just a shame the characters were bland and/or annoying, the story was a mess (two different directors halfway in), and it was too short.

it's not a matter of computer expert, but orbital mechanics. when gato input the course changes, the rockets fired immediately and already put the colony on a different course. I'm not sure if gato, nina, or kou knows exact orbital mechanics, even gato was probably just told by some egghead to "type in these numbers and pull the lever", so that's why stopping gato is more important than just taking control of the computer after gato already type in the data

if there's no more fuel in the colony's rockets, they can't change the course. if they don't know what set of numbers to type in for the course corrections, then even if there is fuel left for the rockets to fire a second time, all they would be doing is changing the course again to crash somewhere else on earth, just away from the exact spot that gato was steering the colony toward when he set the rockets to fire the first time
