I think DA had a better ending, mostly because it felt more intimate and personal to Kazuki, was overall better built up, and it wasn't juggling 4 or 5 plot threads that had to close in a single episode. But other than that? Fucking masterful show.
It wasn't a slog like DA was during it's first episodes, it greatly expands the scope of the plot by making the outside world an active element to the story, most of the characters feel well developed and with interesting arcs and it's actually painful when they leave, the philosophical themes are all there, now exploring the concept of 'hope' as a source of strenght but also pain; and on top of all that, it's gorgeously animated with god-like action scenes.
Seriously, i was amazed by this show.
Anyway, Fafner thread.
What are your thoughts on Exodus?
Favorite Episode? Favorite Character? Favorite Fafner aside from the Salvators?
Is Behind the Line better seen before or after The Beyond? I normally would stick to production order, but The Beyond seems like the ultimate conclusion to the franchise, so i kinda want to threat it as the final piece to see.

JUST finished it now. Started it last year and did it weekly. DA, H&E, RoL, Exodus, BtL, and Beyond. Great series. Most of Angela's songs were bangers too.

RoL and Exodus' first episode did a great job at showcasing the setting than the original did, while also showing how much of a threat the festum possess as well - might not be a bad idea to start with Exodus' first episode and the OVA to get into the series. honestly partially due to Hirai sameface, the series did give me a rough time in telling who is who. There is a lot of jargon tossed around without fully elaborating, which makes it a bit tricky to fully digest the show. But ultimately I wouldn't mind more, even becoming Xebec's/IG's answer to Gundam and Macross.

>original
Solid all around, somewhat of a weak start even with a killcount.
>Heaven & Earth
Fantastic movie, might be the best the franchise has to offer
>Right of Left
Very good OVA.
>Exodus
First half is better than the second but still very good all around. Does get a wee bit bogged down with all the plot threads and bigger cast. I did enjoy the rising of the power levels and how OP everyone and everything got.
>Behind
Nice little short.
>Beyond
Decent but doesn't quite have the "bite" the other entries do, even with a big loss event in the middle and a pleasant wrap up to the series in the last episode.

Dunno about that. Maybe it's my personal taste into play, but i didn't like H&E that much. It wasn't a bad film by any means, action was amazing, but in terms of characters and development it was pretty eh, mostly because it didn't have the time like DA did, only Misao feels like had significant development. It also feels as an excuse to have Soushi and Kazuki reunited, in better terms, which is ironic because i really liked the bittersweet ending of the original show.
Again, it wasn't bad, but i just didn't like it as much as DA.

>What are your thoughts on Exodus?
Peak of the series.
>Favorite Episode?
Episode 9 of Exodus, when Kazuki and Soushi save the day. I really like the insert song during that part of the episode. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmWCgvtYxwQ
It's also used a few other times as well, but it felt like it had the most impact in that episode.
>Favorite Character?
Kanon, of course.
>Favorite Fafner aside from the Salvators?
Megatherion or the Aworth models.
>Is Behind the Line better seen before or after The Beyond?
After, I found it to be a very nice way to conclude the franchise.

FPBP

What surprises me most is how much of a "happy" ending the series eventually got. The entire ride had been bitter sweet at best, but The Beyond actually ends the series on a high. It was a great journey and still one of my favorite shows ever.

The Beyond's ending was really rewarding. Not too happy, but not too sad. Overall optimistic and helped carry the themes forward. I hope they never make anymore Fafner. It absolutely ended perfectly.
