Is Martian Successor Nadesisco any good? I ask because I'm a bit wary because I heard it's a parody and deconstruction, two things that I utterly despise
>>23457795You wouldn't get it.
If only you could watch the show and find out OP. Or read any of the other bait threads about it. Or read any reviews. Or do anything for your self. What a worthless human being you are. I do not pity you. I will not think about you ever again.
It insists upon itself
>>23457795>I'm a bit wary because I heard it's a parody and deconstruction, two things that I utterly despiseThen don't watch it, moron
>>23457795Deconstruction means when people like something from a genre they disrespect, which isnt the case with Nadesico.
>>23457795It is a deconstruction, but it is highly respectful and appreciative of its source material as opposed to being cynical and self-depreciating.
>>23457808I don't know where I can liveblog about the show without getting banned.
>>23457795It's a great comedy show with lots of cute girls, great mecha action and some good emotional moments. You shouldn't be on /m/ if you haven't seen it.

>>23457795One word:Pantyhosed legsAlso, the gloomy bitch was the best aside from Ruri
Why does every girl want the MC when they barely know him
I think Nadesico really captures the 2000's vibe its sometimes goofy sometimes serious, and the ambiance its like Balamb garden but in space, I like it a lot but I cant explain why precisely.Same with the movie even though you need to play the saturn game to fully get it and I didnt play it
>>23457795sorta MASH?wacky funny also war is hell
Why does the show's tone change every half second
8 episodes in. When does the show get good and why is there so little music
>>23458342
>>23458298god I love pantyhose
>>23458342Really, it's part of the show's appeal. If it's something that bothers you, you're probably just going to hate it.
>>23458309>I think Nadesico really captures the 2000's vibeIt's from 1996
>>23459228It was ahead of its time.
>>23459228And Prince of Darkness was 1998, the absolute SOVL era until around 2004 or so
>>23457795If you're not filtered by the first episode you'll probably like it ok.
>>23457795You are right to despise those things OP, but Nadesico is just good. I don't think anything made before the 2000s can really be ironypoisoned desu
>>23458302He cooks
>>23459879It is exactly ironypoisoned, like MGS, insomuch that the author's didn't have the balls to take themselves seriously on either comedy or drama - neither are bad, but they become cognitive dissonance together when the writers are man children. The "wisdoms" passed around in the show are exactly what'd you expect from someone not moving past becoming bitter and calloused as a kid - that's the limit of what their profoundness would be.
>>23460038>It is exactly ironypoisoned,You don't even know what those words mean.
>>23460038MGS' problem is that it takes it's insane retarded plot way too seriously and Kojima thinks it's profound
>>23459352There is nothing SOVL or otherwise about Prince of Darkness.
Its nice, but your mileage may vary on the ending and Prince of Darkness
>>23459228At the time it was common for anime to take more years to be imported to the West. ADV's release wasn't until the early 2000s.Also probably referring to a vibe lasted from the mid 90s through the mid 2000s that more or less overlaps with the era where visual novels were at their most popular.
>>23460507>implying
>>23460541>only SOVL is when it remembers the original seriesYou're proving his point. Prince of Darkness is the Nadesico equivalent to Other M
>>23460550You fags cant even enjoy a thing for what it is
>dude the vibes>dude the SOVL
>>23460586I dare you to watch Pocket Full Of Rainbows.

>>23457795Ruby's not in it. So No.
>>23457890True, I once saw someone say>Evangelion is a deconstruction of Mecha, because unlike earlier shows it focuses on characters and shows the pilots psyche. It also has an actual thought out plotline in a believable world.
>>23460507>and they lived happily ever after>haha jk actually 5 minutes after the series the MC and his waifu got kidnapped and he had his body irreparably fucked up which made him hateful of everything and she's still getting endlessly raped as we speakWhat is this, Sliders?
>>23460586>for what it is>>>/trash/>?
9 episodes in.Can the cast please stop acting like a Greek chorus? This is what we have bridge bunnies for, not the actual mecha pilots.
>>23462232oh god this creatures back
I don't want to use this thread to blog about watching Nadesico. This board is just too fucking slow. Where can I go instead?
>>23467069back
>>23467069Have you considered talking to your friends about it?
>>23467129I don't have friends.
You're all fucking useless. I had to keep watching the show to start liking it. I fucking hate having to do that. Now I'm 12 episodes in.
>>23467565I never started liking it, so that's on youI agree with most of the cast that Akito and Gai are loser faggots that need to grow upBut it's also fucking stupid for the show to have that as an idea it's presenting to begin withMeta shows are cancer
>>23460045The likes of you just wouldn't understand anything more complicated. :)
Up to episode 17 now. Okay, so there really was no reason for Gai getting shot? Just a bunch of officers abandoning ship when Nadesico went rogue and Munetake killing a witness out of paranoia? Was Gai's seiyuu really expensive or something? No, that can't be it, because apparently every single SRW with Nadesico has Gai as a playable unit who never dies.
>>23470967The point was just that he was this heroic over the top persona wanting an heroic death in combat, after initially being presented as just an idiot, actually is also shown as a good pilot in episode 3, so he could become famous like he dreamed, but "reality" isn't like that and he's just randomly shot and killed due to being in the wrong place at the wrong time. This is meant to contrast with "Joe's" heroic death in Gekiganger they kept talking about early in the show before Gai's own death.
>>23470973Except the rest of the show isn't anywhere near that kind of dark. Whenever it's not a satirical romcom riffing on Tenchi Muyo Macross, it's making jokes about Space Battleship Yamato, hiring the Minky Momo guy to make wacky comedy episodes, or using Mazingetter V as a Greek chorus to proceedings.
>>23470973Ace-type pilots getting taking out pathetically while out in the world/not in their mechs and the subsequent fallout is one of those things I tell myself I'd like to see more in but if it ever actually happened would probably piss me off. Maybe I'm not watching the right things but I can only recall it happening twice - Nadesico here but his character was designed to be everything I hate about older mech shows where the power of yelling makes you stronger so he was a good riddance, and IBO where I indeed gave no shits about the character and I still got pissed that it happened
>>23471027>IBO where I indeed gave no shits about the character and I still got pissed that it happenedOof. Though I remember the ToonamiERA watchthrough of IBO season 2 actually really really liked when Lafter got killed off.
>>23471027>everything I hate about older mech shows where the power of yelling makes you strongerThat never stopped. It's just now they're occasionally dispersed by Heero clones who draw their power from dispassionate duty.
Watching episode 18. Ruri's backstory feels really familiar. Though I couldn't place where I'd heard it before.
>>23471103Yin from Darker than Black maybe?
Let's Gekiga In!
Anyone read the manga?
>>23470986>Except the rest of the show isn't anywhere near that kind of darkit is though, between Akatsuki tormenting Akito, Uribitake casually trying to start an affair Hikaru, Tsukumo getting killed, etcNadesico is tonally all over the place
>>23457795This was a weird one. I watched it 15-20 years ago and at some point it became the posterchild of the extremely short list of shows I know I watched and yet had zero recollection of, including whether I even liked it or not. Then I rewatched it a few years back and it became one of my all time favorites
>>23457795>>23458298Why do the Japanese want to be white rich people from the 80's like they were on Dynasty or something?
>>23458340Yes Dorkly...but MASH had dignity. MSN lacks that.
>>23463693No, much like Xenogears. Its shit.
>>23471927So...Nadesico takes place in the Silent Mobius universe?

What's the Japanese term that's been translated as "Jovian"? Because that's sure as hell not what the sub is saying.
>>23459228No shit Sherlock. He didn't say it was from the 2000s.
>>23480801Don't bump the thread if you have nothing to add
My beautiful wife, Tio Plato
Finished the show. I'm not really sure what the win condition was beyond "get the fuck outta dodge", but then I guess this ending was trying to sow the seeds for a longer franchise and renewal. I did like the part where they suggest an anime with no real message or theme beyond "destroy the bays guys using hot-blooded force" will lead to braindead jingoism, though.
It's like parody of mecha series and I think that white haired loli chick dethroned Asuka and Rei in the top anime girls of that year when this series came out.Avoid the movie at all costs, it's fucking horrible, ruined so many characters, and was the reason people's interest in the series died. I think they were planning on making a trilogy too.
>>23482631Don't listen to this guy.Movie's good, tone's just like the series, a lot of good moments in it. It's a bummer they didn't get to continue things after, but it's a blast and a half.
>>23482631>I think they were planning on making a trilogy too.Yeah, apparently. And there was a video game tie-in that was supposed to be a prequel to the films, but they botched its release and it came out afterwards. It's remarkable how everything to do with Nadesico after the original TV series is a series of comical fuck-ups that doomed the entire series to obscurity within five years. It's almost impressive.
Watching the movie, halfway through.>Yurika gets petrified and trapped in the Chulip CPU>Akito goes edgy and turns into a mysterious rival in all-black who doesn't talk to anyone>Some random 10 year old kid is now trying to be Ruri's boyfriendI can see why people hate this movie.
Finished.Wow that was fucking dumb.
>>23471927>As Seen on CARTOON NETWORK
>>23483534Less so than stopping halfway through to post about it.>>23482648Yeah, I never understood how people thought it was incredibly far from the show. It's the same shit except Akito's a moody teen (with admittedly more reason for that than most teens). Its biggest issue is that it's clearly something like half a story.

>>23480725Mokusei is Jupiter in Japanese. Anything having to do with Jupiter involves Moku or Mokusei. Pre-reveal, everyone believes that they were ETs instead of exiled uyoku dantai groups from the moon and called them the Jovian Lizards, translated directly from "Mokusei Tokage".
>>23489084Thanks. What's the name of the propaganda villains in Natural Lychee? It got translated as "Jovan".
Did anyone find out what does "you get to burning" mean?
>>23489307Mokuda, I think.
>>23489925Something, something venereal disease from swine.
>>23460507Prince of Darkness was alright. I don't get how anyone thinks its some drastic change in tone when the series was already like 75% serious 25% comedy by the end and the ending itself left you with a very uncertain future after the Nadescio basically made themselves the enemy of both sides. Like yeah the war ended cause they launched the goal of the war into space, but what the hell happens next? I think overall PoD gives a more complete conclusion.
>>23480801>>I think Nadesico really captures the 2000's vibe>He didn't say it was from the 2000s!!!!!Jackass
>>23457795It wanted to be a lite hentai, but had to fish hook that mecha decon. vibe.
>>23491043Thanks again. One last ask: what's the Japanese term for Mars?
>>23498819Mars is Kasei/火星 (Fire Star).
>>23498819In their language? Kasei. In their, and to a degree our larger history, home 2 of 4.
>>23498891>>23498893Okay. So "Vagan/Vaigan" was a term Gundam AGE pulled from nowhere?
>>23500156No, just their over fascination with pussy.

Alright I started watching it.The first episode was great. But I hated the second episode. All the "jokes" were not funny, and some of them were so bad I felt offended. Is the entire show like this?
>>23508815No, the whole show is great and all of the jokes are funny.
>>23508815that was the worst directed episodeits way more interesting to watch it with the international dubs expect english
>>23457795Nadesico goes in the middle
>>23470986>Except the rest of the show isn't anywhere near that kind of darkwait for it
>>23500156Vaigan is an anagram of vagina The heroine of part 1 is named Urine and the captain of part 3 is named AnusThe Gundam Age writer is the same guy who did Yokai Watch, where there's an entire episode about the main character huffing the farts of a girl he likesIt's just his thing
>>23485334>it's the same as the show except it's nothing like it
>>23508815if you didn't laugh at Cross Crash or basically everything Gekigangar related you do not belong here
>>23513611>you do not belong hereEject me.
I'd watch gekigangar 3 if it was a proper show. What's the closest thing that can be a substitute?
>>23513611>>23513621I picked up Nadesico because Gekiganger 3's opening song and concept was too exciting, and I was not disappointed. I know it heavily homages/draws from Toei's Getter Robo, which I'm hoping to start soon. Oh man, even if you simply like people who'd like Gekiganger, you're already rewarded by watching the show.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09xmOcVBCdM
>>23508753This is /m/, not /dbs/.
>>23513621Gekigangar is Getter Robo with Mazinger attacks, but from what we see of the plot it's a lot like the Nagahama robos
>>23513828I'd watch Dougram in Spanish desu
>>23518501Dougram would hit way too close to home for both Mexico or Spain to ever do a dub.
>>23519271I honestly kept mentally calling Dougram an anime version of the Mexican Revolution. I wonder if there's revolutions that the show is closer to.
