>>23505695I think Akiko is trying too hard to copy Donbrothers's frenetic pacing but the thing is that as feverish as Donbros were, the typical episode had like only two plotlines being followed through at the same time. Maybe three, tops. The pacing there was due mostly to the characters's antics and comedic situations. Same for the non-Akiko Gozyuger episodes, which also don't have that much going on in terms of plotlines. But her episodes just have a whole shit ton of things happening in different story threads and nothing really gets room to breathe, we barely spend time with any of the characters and the plot advancements feel contrived and clumsy. Like, the last two-parter got us to spend some decent time with both Mashiro and Bouquet and almost single-handedly redeemed Mashiro as a character, and outside of the first few introductory episodes I can't recall a single Akiko-written episode with that much character quality time.
