Welcome to the Gunpla/Plamo General!

For those new, please read our guides. We have many resources available to help you in many different aspects of the hobby. They're here for you!

For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Be more specific, and try to provide clear images if you can.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data when images are uploaded, including the orientation tag if it's from your phone. To fix it save out your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.
One easy to use app that works well on Android:
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simplemobilephotoresizer

-= BIOMECHA GROUPBUILD =-

Build a mecha/cyborg with a visibly biological component integrated into the machine. This can include:
>Mecha that naturally have some sort of organic component to them (Evangelions, Aura Battlers, etc)
>Mecha that have organic elements attached/fused to them, willingly or otherwise
>Cyborgs, androids, and human with mechanical attachments/enhancements (Robocop, Kamen Rider, mecha musume, etc)

Send your entries to gunplaplamo@gmail.com with at least 5 photos of your finished build along with any WIP photos and a description of your entry.

Noob here, is there a way to figure out how big of a ventilation fan I need? I assume the cheap paint booths you can find with PC fans arent enough to actually vent the fumes so I was thinking about getting something like this and hooking the booth up to that, but I have no idea what size id really need.
>>
Don't care.
I will NEVER buy a gbitch kit.
I will NEVER buy a gcucks kit.
I WILL buy more Wing kits.
I WILL buy more Seed kits.
I WILL buy more IBO kits.
I WILL buy X kits (when I'm in the mood for it).
>>
>>23574197
There's nothing wrong with using pc fans but there's also nothing wrong with building one out of cardboard and a cheap box fan.
>>
>>23574198
I didn't really care about gwitch when it was airing but the kits have been great and Ive bought 4 of them so far. HG, MGSD, full mechanics, and the Lfrith preproduction off pbandai. All top tier kits.

Hoping for a proper MG one day too, Aerial is easily my favorite main gundam design since.. hmm Turn A? F91? Its been awhile. I like it more than anything from Victory, X, Wing, SEED, 00, Greco, or IBO.
>>
>>23574078
>they grew arrogant and anti-consumer
I'm not saying you are wrong, but western plamo's anti-consumer practices make Bandai seem like saints.

>GW suing digital sculptors, even those not infringing on GW's IP, under the claim that the models *could* be used as alternative play pieces for their shitty tabletop game, thereby damaging their sales
>meanwhile GW is selling actual 27 year old stock at 400% original price, with all the flash and mold lines to be expected from 90s era plamo
>and moving a lot of their production of newer kits to China while still selling at UK prices

>>23574163
>Do non hobby spray primer and coating have no issues with the kits?
Depends on the product. Some of them are really good, and they have come a long way. Some are shit. Test on some spoons first. The same company that manufactures Testors brand enamel paints also makes the Rustoleum brand of spray cans. I've had decent experience with Krylon as well.

With the Chang FA Hyaku Shiki Kai, the Delta is the only one that's missing from my Delta line collection. A bootleg without the electroplating would be nice. Ain't paying MG prices for a HG.

Well the Delta and Delta Plus, but the latter looks like fucking shit.

The Zeta Plus looks great, the Delta looks great, but those two just don't mix.
>>
>>23574262
So, the HG Delta Plus sucks? My local shop has one of those, and I was considering it, but maybe I'll grab the Anksha or the Stark Jegan they have instead.

any tips for parts that wont stay together? im working on an acerby type d and the torso piece refuses to stay together

>>23574276
I've built a few for someone else, it's probably not actually on correctly. Disassemble the chest and reassemble it , it's just two parts that clamshell over the core with shoulder sockets, and inspect the abdomen pieces to make sure that no part of it is preventing the ball joint from seating properly.

>>
>>23574436

>>
I'm gonna put a shotgun to my head and blow it Mr. Super Smooth off
>>
>>23574436
No, but a respirator is still strongly recommended since the fumes can linger long enough for you to breathe them in. And you also need to cover and protect the pieces immediately after spraying to prevent dust from blowing onto them.
>>
>>23574436
Depending on what you spray, P2/P3 mask at least is recommended, you don't want to breathe in atomized paint/primer/etc.
>>
>>23574163
I've used Rust-oleom primer with zero issues before.

>>23574471
Polycaps aren't all bad. All the OYW 2.0 kits use them and those are rock solid years later. There's two kinds of polycap formulations used in MG, a harder, matte material (wears out quickly) and a glossy, more silicone rubber feeling material (lasts basically forever).
>>
>>23574518
Still doesn't fit tho design-wise
>>
>>23574261
i mean imo rg nu is fun to build and feels like a overall good kit, so i dont really see how more of it would be bad
if you feel like it, go for it anon :D

The more I research about airbrushing the more I feel like I'm gonna get emphysema in 2 years time.

>>
>>23574531

Fearmongering. P3 mask and cardboard is enough for water-based acrylics since they don't produce any kind of fumes and paint particles, even atomized, don't stay in air for longer than 10-15 minutes and you don't use some absurd pressures likes 3-4 bars, 1.5-2 instead so your cardboard will catch most of it, mask will stop the rest and even then there are people who don't wear masks anyway. I would agree on lacquers and such since they do require active ventilation but not with fucking water-based acrylics.

Inb4 somebody would bring AI summaries - this shit is trained on Reddit posts, go figure.
>>
>>23574695
Yeah Reddit is extra autistic about ventilation for some reason. Like higher than OSHA levels of ventilation for using a little hobby grade lacquer paint and not the automotive grade/amount the spec is for.
>>
/gpg/ is obsessed with no ventilation, no wonder the threads are full of braindead retards.

Their Forme Arms line? It had two releases exclusive to their web store and that's that for it.

Koto actually intended to make 3 more and turn it into Frame Arms's successor, but they got canned.
>>
>>23574856
It does because you don't need to unscrew it using tiny wrench with a non-negligible chance to damage the nozzle each time you want to clean aribrush.

pretty decent, this is strictly out of the box, with minor panel lining and only applying the decals it comes with

the only elaborate thing I did was putting holographic stickers to the eyes, as they are molded in clear green, but are so small and end up so far behind the huge vfin you can't even see them and they don't shine at all (the kit does not come with any foil stickers)

with this they look silver and change color depending of the angle

honestly not too keen on SNAA designs, they still have that stereotypical chinese look to them
at least shake mainland kits have a derivative-but-still-cool look like they're from some 00s visual novel or something

Slant eyes and buck teeth?

I'm relatively new to the hobby, maybe 10 kits in, and I'm wondering how worthwhile it would be to get better tools, especially nippers.
Currently I'm using trash cheapo nippers and I cut the gates right where they go from fat to thin, then I use a hobby knife to slowly "shave" the nub down until it's flat with the part, I get no stress marks but there's a slight discoloration left, which I'm assuming is just something that is the way it is as a result of the manufacturing process.
Would things like Godhands or nano glass files do anything other than cut a bit of that "shaving" time?

the face of this thing is a rip off of the Exia, yes but I only see a western medieval knight motif in this kit

>stereotypical chinese look to them
What defines that anyway. It's easy to look at a model and instantly know it's a chinese design, but besides them often being over-designed, I can't pinpoint why.
It's the same as how you can instantly tell old 3D games that were made by Sega at a glance.
>>
>>23574913
There's no way to perfectly erase stress marks, except by painting. But a generic Chinesium glass file from Amazon can go a long way towards smoothing out the surfaces.
>>
>>23574895
Yeah C clips don't age well, especially in 1/144 scale. Not to mention RG Sazabi's skirt is a premade frame and you do know it stinks.
>>
>>23574913
You can either invest in sanding sticks/sponges or buy a raser. I have the raser kit and so far it works for me. I still use the hobby knife for delicate work. Also your fingernail can solve a lot of discoloration, just rub it hard against the mark.
>>
how's the HG Galluss J? still waiting on my local shop to get it in
>>
>>23574913
if you mean darker coloured discolouration, yes that's just where the pigment is denser from where the plastic is injected through the gates. you can only get rid of this via painting.
light er coloured discolouration is stress marks

Generally just trying too hard to be cool, and an obsession with putting mythological (especially chinese) inspirations in their robots

It's like sandpaper where higher=smaller particles but isn't directly comparable.
If you have a rough surface you want to smooth/fill in tiny cracks, you go with a smaller number. The larger numbers are primarily just a color layer + something for more paint to bind to and will show through everything on the original plastic.
Bandai and most JP plamo just need like 1200+. Military models with molds from the 80s from like Revell want the lower numbers to hide issues in the plastic.
