Just finished my battle damaged Zaku. Doing something like this is a first for me. I think I overdid it with the dirt but otherwise I love how it turned out. >>23629694honestly not bad for a first attempt, but if you don't mind a bit of advice for a future build hear me out. 1. there are visible gaps, make sure that the parts sit flush together and use something like tamiya extra thick cement over the parting lines. when the glue dries use a sanding sponge to make them look like a cohesive piece. you might need to rescribe some panel lines and you might see some discoloration. if you don't plan on painting it use a fine sanding sponge and polish the area. using tamiya extra thin glue on the area can also knock back the rough texture.2. when doing physical battle damage use tamiya extra thin on the damaged part. this will help smooth out the plastic and make it look more natural. just use the brush applicator and brush on a bit of the glue to the surrounding area.3. for bullet or shell damage use a hobby blade to start, but don't go all the way through. follow it up with a larger bit from a pin vice or even a skrewdriver to widen the shell damaged area but do not go all the way through. take a bit of tamiya putty and put it into the opening and use the back of a brush to make it look like actual shrapnel damage.4. when using rust or grime effects blend them into the surface with the appropriate thinner: use orderless mineral spirits for enamels or oils. blending the grime and rust effects into the model makes it look more natural.
