Welcome to the Gunpla/Plamo General!

For those new, please read our guides. We have many resources available to help you in many different aspects of the hobby. They're here for you!

For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Be more specific, and try to provide clear images if you can.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data when images are uploaded, including the orientation tag if it's from your phone. To fix it save out your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.

-= BIOMECHA GROUPBUILD =-

Build a mecha/cyborg with a visibly biological component integrated into the machine. This can include:
>Mecha that naturally have some sort of organic component to them (Evangelions, Aura Battlers, etc)
>Mecha that have organic elements attached/fused to them, willingly or otherwise
>Cyborgs, androids, and human with mechanical attachments/enhancements (Robocop, Kamen Rider, mecha musume, etc)

Send your entries to gunplaplamo@gmail.com with at least 5 photos of your finished build along with any WIP photos and a description of your entry.

Anybody have any recommendations for hobby-grade drill presses and bandsaws? The last few times I had to punch holes in plastic, I used an industrial-grade one that I happened to have access to. Feels like it would be significantly more convenient to have one that could fit on top of a desk though.

30MS kits are extremely hollow with no complexity whatsoever, which is an easy thing to make new mold for the fix. Bandai doesn't go back to fix RG Sinanju's frame, IBO HG frame and so on. If they don't bother to fix a fucking HG then a PG has zero chance.

Trying out the RMZ line (thank you hobby lobby discounts), and I gotta say this isn't a bad kit. It's not as intricate as an HMM nor would I expect it to be. >it is old and the only kit ever existed for Hygogg.
That is incorrect though anon, we had the 1/144 Gundam 0080 series Hygogg as well, along with SD Gacha Hygogg.
As for the HG, it is perfectly serviceable. Better accuracy to the lineart than the Old Kit version, great balance and articulation and easy to break into sub assemblies for painting. The only reall issues are some parts that need filling (like the soles of the feet that you showed) and a couple of awkward seams to weld and fill.
>>
>>23647300
feet are supposed to be on the ground
>>
>>23647430
It is low quality for early 2000s standard. Ofcourse it is servicable, however, being an ok-ish slop is not that big of an achievement. I hope there will be a modern kit for it, even if it is greebled as shit.
>>
I want to pause a project just after the gloss coat. Would laying it on some paper towels in a plastic container and storing it away from sunlight be enough? I'm still putting together the tools needed to weather it, and I don't expect to interact with it for months.
>>
>>23647407
The arms and legs of RG Sinanju are the least terrible thing about that kit. Having minimal upgrade is better than nothing at all.
>>
>>23647444
The only HGUC marine zeke kit that really holds up poorly is the Z'Gok Experimental. I can't speak for the Juaggu (I only have the old kit) but the rest hold up beautifully (and the Z'Gok E's issues are more related to unconventional posing and play, it is still a lovely looking kit when assembled). I still yearn for an HGUC Agguguy and HGUC Capule along with an updated Z'Gok E before they even think about doing an update on Hygogg.

These "upgrade" parts are barely better than the original kits parts. The only one that made a big improvement is the hip replacement section for the RG 00 kits. Everything else has awful QC/fitment, requires you to snip various parts of the old kit off and ends up being immediately loose. You also have to glue one or two parts on which is pointless since you could just glue the original kit. All the videos out there on them are Korean/Chinese and of course the Chinese videos say it fixes it while the Korean videos say it's a mess.

SNAA are sort of there but as much as people keep calling them RG kits, they really aren't and that's what I'm looking for. The problem with the "1/100" chinese kits is that they're usually always much bigger than Bandai MG kits so you you need a lot of room just to display a few of them. TEST-70 Bailu not too long ago and it looks great but it takes up so much volume in terms of space.

Not quite OC, but alot of plastic kits were made based on stolen resin kit design. The recent Jeddah kit was stolen from a 3D artist, who also infringed copyright by selling Gundam's designs under different names.
>>
>>23647531
I bought the RG00 replacement kit. The hip part is easily the best part of it, the rest of it you might as well throw out. For example, out of the box the RG 00 kits have no issue holding their arms up, it's only after putting them in poses where the arms/legs are under tension that they start to loosen up like all the MS-joint RGs. The replacement arms were immediately loose depending on the pose and you had to cut parts of the shoulder armour away to make it fit. I found an english review where you can see for yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tq_zky0ORQ4

It's blatantly a Tallgeese with a retarded name and tons of changification to try to skirt around bandai's assassins. It's obviously not a 1:1 Tallgeese scaled up by no names and there is no argument against that. Unless your claim is that they changified it so much that it became an OC then I can probably agree with that.

I like how chang also included the cockpit handle. What is even the purpose of that? To allow a Gundam to grab the Tallgeese?

The thing about Tallgeese is that, if you remove its unique proportion and the face then it is just a generic mecha Roman warrior. Just like what your picture shown, the color is different, the face is different, the legs are different. It is just an OC that vaguely resembles Tallgeese.

These raids are all conducted by the Shanghai police. CCP has been trying to replace HK with Shanghai as a foreigner-friendly hub so their courts and police helping Bandai and Hasbro is part of that.
https://www.globaltimes.cn/content/1164060.shtml

Unfortunately(or fortunately) it's really one city that is doing this. They literally have to travel all the way down to Southern China and raid the factories themselves (who probably get tipped off by the local police). It's no coincidence that when Shanghai was too busy with covid lockdowns, Daban and all the KOs started coming back.

Bandai can't compete, not any more. They're regressing. Chang may still have some loose joints here and there but they have the excuse of being bootlegs. Or alternatively the Re/100 denan whatever looks like an upscaled HG from the 2010s.

Bandai kits are much more pleasant to assemble.

Also found a place to put it. Don't mind the Unicorn as the Chinese metal frame it has the arm so loose it completely droops and I haven't had a chance to try and fix it as the acrylic paint I tried came off without primer and I don't have any metal primer on hand.

Passion projects usually turn out better than "jobs". Why do you think quality even varies at Bandai? Katoki obviously loves what he produces, and whoever runs the F90 release run does. But the guys cranking out some of Bandai's other releases obviously are just doing it as someone just said "make this model".
>>
>>23647694
I'm the opposite. I enjoy challenging assembly over the easy ones. Chinese kits are close, but nothing beats the traditional glue kits with bunch of micro parts.
>>
>>23647704
What are some other gundam model kits where you can really feel the passion of the creator? I feel like the mg turn a is like that, but the mg jegan is one of those “just make the model” kits.

That's funny, the Jegan is pretty lackluster in terms of surface detail (as it should be) but the build was simple and enjoyable when I got it. I remember another kit I was working on had me tired and annoyed, then I built the jegan and it was refreshing.

My thumbs have been hurting for the past two weeks, I should have bought rubber covered pliers to deal with it. I shouldn't have to need that. I don't mind the parts I needed to glue/sand a bit, I do that on some Bandai kits also.

>>23647707
Obviously I said Katoki, but the Zeta ver Ka was done by a bunch of people who liked the original art. Visually good, solid despite transforming, and fun to build.
RG God/Shining also were very pleasent to build even if they look different than lineart. The designers liked not needing to deal with the weapons and focus entirely on the kit being able to balance on itself in a ton of poses. I think it was similar with the HG GQux as despite the weird design, it's also an oddly solid kit so they worked a bunch on it.

A counter example would be the HG Penelope. It has random color correction needed despite the parts being big and a runner of the right color already being in the box that wasn't very large. It also isn't even stable on its included stand.
>>
>>23647707
>the mg jegan is one of those “just make the model” kits.
It originally was previewed as a RE/100 before they decided to make it into a proper MG, so it makes sense they half assed it. Bandai really didn't want to make a MG Jegan for some retarded reason and it shows.
>>
>>23647713
>rubber covered pliers
Are these like the rubber covers for vices?
>>
>>23647701
Upscaled HG's don't count
>>
>>23647714
>originally was a re/100
That singular photo is questionable. You should stop treating it as gospel. And as for not wanting to make an MG of it, they sure as hell have enough MG variants of it. I think we're at 3 or 4 now?
>>
>>23647707
Old PGs
>>
>>23647713
Also had a thought about PGs. PG Exia was done by some people who loved the design, but the Unicorn was more phoned in where they let the suits push features that hurt the kit and/or didn't make the features work well. Might be a similar thing with the PGU RX-78 and the Nu

>>23647715
I think they are for electrical work, but I found some on Amazon that I ordered on Friday with some other stuff. I have soft covers for my proper vise for gun maintenance work, but that's far to big/strong for plastic like this. They might make something similar for smaller tabletop vices.

MG Zaku 2.0 and MG RX-78 2.0
Both of these kits featured extensive slide molding and well thought out panel placement to keep seams to minimal. Not only for the body/ms it self mind you but also the weapons a rarity even now.
Highly intricate yet solid inner frames that provided an excellent range of articulation and great looks by them selves. Frames so good that bandai kept recycling and reusing them for subsequent UC mgs.
Really just the mid to late 2000s was definitely peak for bandai engineering as a whole.

Don't bother engaging with the lineart accuracy retards. Nothing will ever be accurate enough and they'll bitch over the smallest details which would look like complete shit on a real life model. They want kits to look like badly drawn renders/cells with fucked proportions where the chest looks like it's melting and one arm and leg are 3 times bigger than the others.
>>
>>23647759

The nemo getting a lavish MG kit is the real head-scratcher. Aside from being the eternal rival to the Barzam I don't see it getting a lot of love other than the AEUG's GM.
>>
>>23647770
It's the Ver Ka or the original HG Zeta, not the revive version. None of them are perfect but the Zeta also constantly changes how it looks so it really depends on what you're comparing the kit to. In most of the anime, it's got a super long face, which the ver ka goes for, but then it's more normal if someone else is drawing it. This is the issue with accuracy on old designs in general, the look of a unit will vary massively depending on who draws it or what media it's in. The RG for example looks very close to how it looked in Dynasty Warriors Gundam, which isn't how it looked in the anime, which isn't how it looked in various other zeta related media.
>>
>>23647714
You shouldn't take discarded projects as something to make conspiracy theory for. Hell i can make a theory about how GTO GM was a simplified RG GM all along.

>>
>>23647827
It's a shame they haven't done any RG grunt kits other than technically the Z'Gok. It would be depressing, but not remotely surprising, if the next line of RGs were 2.0's of the SEED kits.
>>
>>23647827
>>23647839
Grunt MS are the last thing you want for RG kits though. The whole point of grunts is to army build them, for which the most they actually need are Revives. No need to spend all that R&D greebling up a grunt that won't sell anyway because it's too expensive to army build.

No it isn't. Almost no one is doing this. You are a massive retard. Even if you did want to do this, you would then just buy the HG.

Not really. Not for everyone. WHen you're talking about such a small subset of people you really just start talking about individual preferences and there's a billion of those to go around. There are some people who love their lineup of 1979 no frill Jims, there are those that like faction displays so look to produce squads of everything of that faction, and honestly just every variant of this imaginable.
