-=READ THE GUIDES=-

Welcome to the Gunpla/Plamo General!

For those new, please read our guides. We have many resources available to help you in many different aspects of the hobby. They're here for you!

For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Be more specific, and try to provide clear images if you can.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data when images are uploaded, including the orientation tag if it's from your phone. To fix it save out your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.
One easy to use app that works well on Android:
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simplemobilephotoresizer

do you need anything like a caliper for scribing new lines?

A caliper is for measuring distance. I guess if you need to get hyper autistic and make sure both sides of a piece have the exact same 5mm line then maybe?

2.26 MB PNG
A Ground Gundam that was left laying in a lagoon alongside the wrecks of several Goufs. A superorganism consumed the liquid metal inside the Goufs' heat swords, and, after mutating from minovsky particle radiation, the creature became a "non-human newtype." It then took up residence inside the wrecked Ground Gundam, merging it with various parts from the wrecked Goufs. The Lost Lagoon Superorganism now makes up over 60% of the mobile suit's mass.

The creature is capable of operating the mobile suit independently but it's not good at it (mostly because it's a formless creature of tendrils and not used to a humanoid body layout) so it wants a pilot. The entity's tissue is effectively a form of organic psychoframe.

The man who discovered it, an explorer/MS salvager working on contract basis for an independent research company and PMC called Mishaguji Front, later becomes its pilot and is employed by Mishaguji Front for the purposes of data gathering and because the MS refuses to work for anyone other than him.

The unit's reactor output has been magnified more than five times over from a ground gundam's baseline, and can be amplified further by the superorganism, but doing so for any prolonged period of time requires ready access to water for cooling or a high degree of psychic resonance. The internal structure of the reactor is unrecognizable compared to a baseline ground gundam's, and it is one of the main research points of interest for Mishaguji Front.

"Ohohoho! Bow before me mortals, and witness my perfection!"

Obsessed with all manner of glitz, glamour, gold and beauty, mad scientist Mida Trachwant has abandoned her flawed, aging flesh, transforming herself into the Empress of the new age.
Artificial nano-coated muscle power her new body, her diecast exterior shows the world her gorgeous glory, while her original, disgusting body still lies within. To make sure all submit to her whims, her once modest chest has become two, large rotating drills, capable of shattering even the strongest of wills.
Always by her side, her beloved pet serpent is reborn as a machine. The same fate befalls anyone who's Mida's hands touch. Should she have her way, she will drag humanity kicking and screaming into a future of her own design.

Deep within the ruins of a forgotten colony lies The Last Brood Guard, a lone biomechanical sentinel shaped in the image of an ironclad ant. Hatched for a single purpose and bound by ancient instinct, it once stood among countless brethren, shielding the fragile unhatched eggs from all who dared trespass. But when an enemy nest descended in fire and chitin, the colony fell silent, leaving only this tireless warden behind. Now, centuries on, vines coil through the shattered chambers and wind scatters dust where life once stirred—yet the Guard remains, unmoving, unyielding. It keeps vigil over the hollowed nursery, defending memories long devoured by time, a faithful soul forever anchored to ghosts.

At age 8, subject was recorded as an abnormally powerful psychic and categorized as a cryptid. Despite agency containment and extensive experimentation, no viable means of weaponization was achieved, while massive loss of personnel and infrastructure accumulated over the years. Proving too costly, research was put on hold and the subject placed in cryostasis.

Decades later, subject was unearthed for Project Maenad, its head, spine and relevant parts of the brain grafted onto an advanced stealth drone. The Maenad's main function is to be flown within a 1km radius of a target group and then fire waves of unstable psychic energy, causing chaotic and untraceable termination of all organics. It is also outfitted with energy blades to deal with obstacles and unmanned hostiles.

Though the subject's psyche was mostly erased, remnants of trauma will sometimes manifest physically through its power, for example as neon lights from the room it was experimented upon.

Corpse Slave Construct 87 is the latest battlefield recovery built by Lich Corpsnel Greer. She needed to use some of her own stash, but 87 is much sturdier than 86 thanks to the abundance of murder mech casualties. The head is mostly intact too so it should follow orders fairly well. The constant screaming demoralizes both flesh and metal foes as it hacks them apart for the inevitable Corpse Slave Construct 88.

At the dawn of the Industrial Revolution, an elite group of wealthy industrialists sought to eliminate disruption to their assembly line labour by assassinating Father Christmas and removing the drunken holiday from their strict schedule of production.
The attempt failed, but left Santa near death.
The ingenious toy making elves of Santa's home cleverly used their skills to restore the remains of Claus's shattered body within a stronger mechanical construct to continue the Christmas Spirit.

MetalGreymon's wild hunger for battle is now tempered by a keen analytical mind. Its Pandemic Destroyer, fired from the Alterous cannon, now contains bizarre viruses previously unknown to any Earth computers. With its Energy Booster upgraded by VoyBirdramon, MetalGreymon is now capable of limited space travel. This may one day prove critical, as VoyBirdramon is adamant that it was not born from the space probe's computer...

And in the meantime, feel free to suggest your ideas for the next theme for the next Groupbuild! As always, the runner ups from the previous poll are automatically in the running for the next vote.
>Duo Groupbuild (Build a pair of robots designed to work together/compliment with each other (ie: a fire and ice mech, two mechs that combine together to form a larger mech, etc)
>Armored Up Groupbuild (Build either an armored up mech (ie: Full Armor Gundam) or a suit of Power Armor (Kamen Rider, Space Marine, etc)

Once again suggesting Transforming/Combining.

Transforming Build: Make a build that can convert between two different modes, like the Zeta Gundam or a Transformer. Has to be an original idea or at least a kitbash, you can't just straight build a kit and give it different colors or something.

Combining Build: Make a build that includes at least two mecha that can combine together to form a larger mecha, like a Super Sentai giant robot, Constructicons into Devastator, or Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus into Omega Prime. Again, original ideas only and all the components have to make sense.

That part is plastic.
>>
>one the metal feet of the Nu ver ka has this tiny amount of excess metal which prevents me from putting in the clear part for the foot
I don't know if my old, rusty file can fit inside the channel to grind that fucking piece of shit down, if you can even do so. On the other hand, I don't have plans on using the sliding panel gimmick of the kit. Also have this issue on the fore arm where the metal was thicker on one spot which made one of the plastic part bulge out.
>>

That chart is specifically for gunpla you dunce. Bandai's entire plamo lineup has expanded massively in the last 5 years. They're printing less gunpla but they're printing more plamo overall.
>>
>>23650179
Are you retarded? It's a 3rd party frame. Also, they've been using ecopla in every kit for the last 10 years. If you've built a kit in that time, you've been building an ecopla kit.

I dunno, are you? The barebones ecopla is just a bunch of recycled plastic melted into black goo. Color injection doesn't work properly for ecopla unless the Changs or Bandai do chemical recycling to revert the plastic back into pellets. I swear you retards are always so vocal, as if it makes you right.

>>

You replied to a post about a 3rd party frame crying about ecopla. What the fuck does ecopla have to do with a random 3rd party frame? Again, ecopla has been used in reprints and new kits for well over 10 years now without anyone knowing the difference. People seem to think ecopla itself is weak when the actual difference is bandai swapping from ABS to PS/KPS.
>>
>>23650214
Yes it has. One of the major uses of it was for the wing binders on the Wing Zero ver Ka. You, and everyone else here, have been building kits using ecopla for years without even knowing it.

Ecopla is not as magical as you think it is. The color injection is extremely limited and chemical recycling is too expensive for the small Chang studios to tackle. Their ABS tend to be low quality, but that's a business practice issue.

I sort of suggested something, while not the same, similar to this idea before, ended up turning into "imposter groupbuild" before, where you build building something without using an existing kit of it, either by scratch building, or using parts from other series.
While NTA, I would define MS that don't have a kits yet as:
>No official kits announced before the start of the groupbuild
>if announced, the kits is only available after the groupbuild is over
>If the extension occurs, you may not use the parts from the official kits
I also would like to suggest an additional rules:
>if it have kits that exist, but are a limited production item, a home made kits sold by third party or thing that isn't easily available in a normal circumstance are allowed, but you are not allowed to use any of the parts from those kits
>Kits that exist but are out of print/no longer in production should not be allowed.

I had a strange dream last night. Bandai had announced a new product line, HGZH - High Grade Zaku Head. Apparently something had gone wrong at one of the factories and they had an excess of Zaku II head runners. The line started with Zeta Zaku, in normal colors.
After that, it was basically every non-monoeye suit, but with a Zaku head. Weirdly, they decided to cast the non-monoeye runners in FZ colors - the darker green, the red cockpit etc. I looked at a Byarlant Custom in these colors, with a Zaku II head. There was also a Hambrabi (despite not having a conventional neck part), a Turn A, and a Dendrobium.
Weird dream.

>If you buy a model train/car/tank/plane for the price of an average HG
Most of Tamiya kits are around HG price, around 20 to 60 dollar. I have built a handful of them already and they are good, with no hollow parts whatsoever. It makes sense that they pander to a market full of cranky boomers so they can't be sloppy with the realism and details.
>>
>>23650738
Not a fancy kit, but paint instead for my next couple of projects.

Get the Proto btw. Super fun build
>>
>>23650826
Every tamiya kit I've ever built has been mostly hollow.
>>
>>23650818
People hamhands kits all the time, this picture proves nothing. This is still not on the same tier as Sinanju Ver. Ka levels of bad until you can find more than one instance of this happening.
>>
>>23650826
Tamiya makes toys, not models
They sacrifice accuracy for ease of assembly
>>
>>23650818
>>
>>23650828
NTA but Proto Zero feels too minimal. The assembly is abit quick and the details are not very crisp. EW Wing Zero ver Ka feels much higher quality, even if you don't like the design.

Eh, tamiya is one of the more pricy brands. Their old kits (like their 1/35 t-62, panther, 1/48 F-15C or A-10) usually fall in HG price point and they definitely need a good amount of work or aftermarket to get it look not horribly outdated next to more modern kits.
Decent 1/72 jets at the bare min start from 27 dollar mark and 1/35 tanks double that.
>>
>>23650635
Actually I'm a fucking retard, it's rubber tires. I think I'm gonna just sand them to give them an used look and call it a day.
>>
>>23650830
Strange, everything from them i have built are not hollow. Not as in "lack of engine", they never let that kind of holes on the surface for you to see.
>>
>>23650830
The more expensive kits aren't but you're paying MGEX/PG prices for those kits. The lower end kits, that are HG priced, are fine but yeah you're missing a lot of details and some of them are extremely simple. I think it's fine for the price you're paying most of the time.

What's the best boomer model brand?
>>
>>23650838
I'd rather have the bottom of the foot be hollow over having to take a blowtorch to a screwdriver to put the threads on.
>>
>>23650845
Warm water or a hair dryer will do the same job but yeah a foot being hollow on a HG really isn't a big deal.
>>
>>23650840
Because we're talking about the 2008 MG kit, which was completely superseded by the OVA version in 2013. You haven't seen it happen because the kit became obsolete before you got into the hobby.

Took a week or so off of building anything after sprinting through a perfect grade. I had this bootleg GTO laying around that a chinese seller sent me instead of the ver.ka I ordered (I got a refund)
I decided to use the ver.anime paints I bought on it. I like these colors a lot. The bootleg isn't bad but it feels way worse than the real one did. The head in particular took a few minutes with a knife to get fitting.
The only problems with the paint is that the little jars were definitely less full than mr.colors other offerings. Either leaping panda hobbies skimmed a bit off the top of each one, or mr.hobby didn't put in the full 10ml of paint. In fact, I added 5ml of thinner which filled the jar up and perfectly thinned the paint.

The red and yellow aren't too different but the blue is way lighter than the plastic. I didn't wanna do too much to it since I did it just to test the paints for a bigger project.
Thanks for letting me know my paint is sitting flat.

>>23651157
Bad news about the white. I couldn't find that one so I just used regular aqueous gundam white. I'm a bit colorblind so maybe that's why I didn't see a difference between it and the normal version.

asking 100% unironically
you know how ordering from japan at msrp is cheaper because if you consolidate you optimize the shipping cost?
then why do local stores who buy in massive bulks sell at such a higher price than if you do it yourself?

because they're trying to make money.

>hurr durr, greeks and romans understood all these nuances of the human form
>b-burt they didn't understand gradients and only used solid colours!!!!!
fucking retards did this shit for controversy instead of painting them well

I may be reading your post incorrectly but if I recall correctly they did not use solid colors and used lots of color combinations.

I literally bought that Phenex for $50 less, before all this tariff bullshit. On the flip side though, I didn't get free shipping, so I guess anyone who buys it now is going to get a better deal than me :^)

Is its special ability to self destruct?

It's named after a sports car. You know trans has other meanings, right? Here's a photo of a trans am

EG Nu

Is the original huckebein hg delayed? Why haven't we seen anything else about it even though it releases this month?
>>
>>23652766
The hguc revive has bulkier proportions. The rg is a twink.
>>23652762
It’s supposed to be that way. But the rg ain’t.
>>
>>23652782
Does it fit in the RG or you have to modify it?
>>
>>23652799
It fits in but you have to tighten the joint. It even hides the long ass neck too.
>>
>>23652566
The anime versions aren't super detailed because people actually have to draw that shit, every frame.

I've decided to take the plunge and start airbrushing. Does Iwata have a particular time they like to discount their compressors?
>>
>>23652837
Just get a cheap airbrush and compressor. You're going to fuck up parts on the thing whether it's a nice one or not and it'll save you a lot of money on needles on the cheap one.
>>
>>23652837
Save yourself some money. You can get a generic compressor off of Amazon and it works just fine. Same thing with the brushes. Frankly, the cheap airbrushes work just fine and if you bust one up, especially since you're new, it won't hurt as bad to replace.
>>
>>23652837
just grab one of the timbertech ones with a tank off of amazon. i started airbrushing about a year ago with one of those and a ps-289 and its generally been fine. i definitely could've taken better care of the airbrush though but it still works fine.
>>
>>23652837
anon get some beginner shit first and learn basic use, thinning, cleaning (really fucking important)
>>
is getting a 3D printer worth it? i mean, chink bootlegs are cheaper than stl files and filament, so maybe it wouldnt be as cost effective.
i mean, sure, i can print other shit, but what?
>>
>>23652880
Filament printers also produce worse looking parts than any sort of mold. It's really only good for odd parts or making your own designs.

Gunpla Nativity Scene... That's a group build idea right there.

Kinda like Z Mazinger basically.
>>
What about portable airbrush? How are they? Having to set aside a spot for compressor is not... ideal.
>>
>>23652894
They're really bad. You can get a small desktop compressor that works fine. The tiny one master airbrush makes barely takes up any space and works great.

Arms are done. Following the minimal decal outline in the manual is fun. It draws my eye to them more than a ver.ka's massive amount.

The problem with the hi nu isn't that it's purple, it's that they took one of the sleekest designs in the franchise and fattened it and added bricks on its back
There's a reason almost every picture of it is from that angle because that's the one where it looks the least retarded and it's still pretty bad
>>
I want them to make an upscaled rg sazabi. I love the rg design and think the ver ka shoulders are ugly but all my other uc gundams are 1/100 so I can’t get the rg. I was hoping fat cat’s next upscale would be sazabi but instead they did the burning gundam…

There's an elegance in the Nu's design that very few suits can match, UC or otherwise
>>
>>23653060
It's a recolored RX-78-2 with a fancier V fin and an unfinished array of funnels hastily strapped to its back, there are many other more "elegant" designs in the series even just among main Gundams

I highly doubt they even painted them in the first place, I know it's been 3000y but surely at least one had a spec of proof the were. It's also unrealistic to expect all of them to be
