-=READ THE GUIDES=-

Welcome to the Gunpla/Plamo General!

For those new, please read our guides. We have many resources available to help you in many different aspects of the hobby. They're here for you!

For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Be more specific, and try to provide clear images if you can.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data when images are uploaded, including the orientation tag if it's from your phone. To fix it save out your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.
One easy to use app that works well on Android:

-= ACE CUSTOM GROUPBUILD =-

Build, customize, and paint a grunt mobile suit up for use by an ace pilot.
>You are taking the role of the Ace Pilot here - You're making the design choices when it comes to loadout, paint scheme, and suit customizations.
>Think about what your Ace specializes in, is he all in on offensive power, speed and maneuverability, or bulk and defense?
>While your pilot is an ace, he's not so special that he's getting super secret prototypes like Gundams or Mobile Armors. Keep your grunt relatively grounded to whatever setting it's from.

Send your entries to gunplaplamo@gmail.com with at least 5 photos of your finished build along with any WIP photos and a description of your entry.

First time ever painting. airbrushing is very, very tough.
I wanted the armor to be bright silver (C90 Shine Silver), but most of the paint just won't stick. when it does, it's very uneven and inconsistent. I'll just pretend all that grey stain are battle damage to cope.

I'm not sure what I did wrong. the thinning ratio was the same as Bloody Red and Burnt Iron (more than 1:1.5, less than 1:2 paint:thinner), which had no problem spraying and sticking, so I don't think it's an airbrush issue. The paint does spray and it gets depleted quite fast, but it just won't stick. It's kinda watery when it touches the surface of the plastic.
Is it because C90 Shine Silver is metallic and need a different type of thinner (I used Leveling Thinner)? or is Silver incompatible with white primer?
I also tried testing Mr Primer Surfacer Grey (SF287) and faced a similar problem. it's not watery, but it takes so long for the paint to appear on the plastic. I'll try spraying this surfacer tomorrow on parts I forgot to paint to make sure.

>>23741141
I suggest not using levelling thinner with metallics. I prefer rapid thinner for them. You want metallics to dry fast so that the fleck stays in place and doesn't have time to shift around in the paint and clump up.
You could also thin your paint a bit less. The way the paint pulling away from the edges means you sprayed too much paint on at once and thinned it too much. Neither of those things are inherently bad you just can't do both of them at one. If you thin it that much you need to do light coats. If I intend to do a single coat i always just thin around 1:1. If I intend to thin my paint a lot like you did I expect to do multiple coats to get good coverage.
Also with metallics black is generally the best base coat.
>>
>>23741104
some slight proportion changes on xi. legs lengthened about 3mm, torso raised by 2mm. i might push the limit of the peg and add one more layer onto the legs. Also this kit is like a rag doll after not having touched it for years. Nothing that can't be fixed, but it is a bit annoying. I'm considering butchering the hi nu ver ka that I have boxed and giving the funnels and binders to it as well. idk if I'll start a new project in full yet though. I won't have as much time going forward and I still want to compete in some local contests around the middle of the year.
>>23741141
you're either thinning too much (probably not if your measurements are correct) or your psi is too high. What psi are you spraying at? Also metallics appear deeper over darker coats. You want rapid or regular thinner for metallics
>>
>>23741152
The finish doesn't look like the pressure was too high on his brush. It looks to me like the coat was just too heavy for the thinner ratio.

ah, yes. THAT is what happened.
Rapid, huh... is there even a 110ml bottle like Leveling? I can only find the giant 400ml one. I really don't want to buy it since I won't have much use of metallic paint except for 1 project. buying 400ml is overkill.

>thinned it too much
Is this for Metallic only? since the other 2 colors are fine with similar ratio I did the Silver (near 1:2)

>metallics black
I plan on doing Turn X with Metallic Gold armor and Metallic Iron inner frame (both Mr Color GX series). I bought Mr.Finishing Surfacer Black for this. is it actually fine for this plan?

>>23741152
>your psi is too high
probably this, but I have to adjust the airbrush (not the compressor) into "big spray" if I want the color to even come out otherwise, it's just air with very little paint. I don't exactly know the psi number, how do I check?

Look up anime resin sculpting, hobby sculpting, clay techniques on youtube. You'll need pic related.

You can also make figures with what they call a "3d pen". Theres videos on this too.
>>
>>23742644
I sculpt with Apoxie Sculpt from Aves all the time, but I'm nowhere near the level shown in your pic.
Apoxie Sculpt is an epoxy putty as soft as plasticine when mixed and you can smooth it with plain water. When it's cured, it's much like hardened clay or drywall compound. You can sand it, carve it and drill holes into it. It has a tendency to chip when carving fine details, but it's easy to fix with fresh putty.

My best advice is go slowly, little bits at a time so you don't mash up your work as you sculpt.

For large bulk shapes, a polyester putty like Bondo or Tamiya is good, especially for sharp edges and planes. I see Japanese modellers use that stuff all the time for sculpting anime stuff.

The clear coat dried on the PGU, so finally got to play with it posing a bit. A surprising how it can pose given it's lacking an action base. Did this one after an old wallpaper I had, but until posing I never realize was having a left handed saber use. Had to have the shield on for balancing.

This pose is all you need.
>>
>>23744315
I don't agree with all this though it makes several good points. I think the most important thing is to consider movement in every area. The torso being aligned perfectly with the hips always looks robotic, having it canted even a couple degrees immediately makes any pose more natural, same with verticality. It says make an S with the hips and torso but it's more important that the torso simply be moving with some respect to the hips and the rest of the robot. Chest up high with hips low is a classic pose itself. Likewise, angling the arms inwards slightly at the bicep rotation tends to make it look more aggressive and shows off more angles of the arms from various poses. And angling the head up can look great if you're looking for an action pose, it all depends. The real thing is to just consider a little movement and posture with almost every point. A few degrees of offset here and there can make a ton of difference from a robotic lifeless pose to a natural looking one.
>>
>>23744336
Also, the angle of your camera shots makes a huge difference too. Poses can look incredible from certain angles and weird from the opposite. Finding the right shot composition is an art itself.

Anon, they do this type of discount on the regular, it's just to encourage bulk buying. I bought my MGEX Kshatriya using the same deal last week, saved $20 on a $160 order.

And to my experience, the vendors don't increase their prices since there's no point (again, these discounts happen regularly). If one or two try to sell for higher, there's another dozen or so who don't and they're the ones who move product.

the first one was a okayish AC ripoff
the new one is an open world exosuit action "rpg"
I played the demo and while the scavenging and suit making is nice, the combat was already getting repetitive and the world was fairly bare. Normally you want your demo to be a strong start to showoff and hook people, but by the end I was already feeling that monotonous burnout creeping in
very much a buy on 50%+ sale kinda game

And done with initial snapping. Happy with how the color scheme turned out, even if I have painting quality issues to work on. I might need to repaint the inner half of the right leg as I really let it lighten up right on the front edge. A few other under spray areas also. Really need to get a better light so I can notice this during the initial painting.

This is pretty much just a bog standard GMIII that found a beam magnum. Need to finish the story, but he found it floating about after 0096 and after asking Anaheim about it, got told they don't make it, here is the maintenance manual, and how are you not blowing your arm off. He also started getting blackballed into more boring assignments afterwards as if he did something wrong. Which is why he is still in a GMIII and being sent to see what's going on with some "pirate" attacks near Mars in UC 115.

There's two HG Base Jabber kits, the Unicorn version (the ones they use in the atmosphere that seat one and has a gun on the underside) and the Type 89 (the ones they use in space that are double-sided so you can put one MS on each side, or attach propellant tanks to the underside).

As for the Tikbalang, it's stupidly well-designed for a sub-flight unit. It has retractable landing gear, movable nozzles, folding handles on the underside that fold flush to the hull, and adjustable footrests. The Base Jabbers are 2012-2013 kits and the Tikbalang is a 2023 kit, and the amount of engineering advancements they've made is very impressive. You almost feel sorry for the thing for being a WfM kit.
>>
>>23744795
>we didn't get anything for the first game, right? There was a Kotobukiya Radiant Gleam kit that was shown and never released.
>weird they're doing it for the more exosuit one
Probably a combination of wanting to promote the newer game and not wanting to overlap too much with the AC kits. The powersuit designs might let them reuse some 30MF engineering for things like the limb connections.

Beam weapons don't have recoil. Don't believe Banagher's lies, he made the mechanic make the arm break so it looked cooler.

they aren't lasers you dingus

I would have preferred Zeta or CCA ones but I don't think the Unicorn era ones are tremendously different apart from maybe color, having another buddy on the underside makes sense but looks a bit silly. I was leaning towards the Type 89, but you seem extremely impressed by the Tikbalang, which feels like such an odd thing to get with mostly UC kits in my collection.

I know it's a giant freaking mech and not a human/living thing but thrusters on the crotch area and or the ass area of a mech seems so silly but those are logical spots for additional thrusters... >>23745525

Missing the <<lore>> that Banagher is using it wrong. Or the replacement arm pulled off a GMI in a wreck yard was assembled above spec as it build by the military vs Anaheim.
I am thinking of running with this "The brass hate him, so he probably has the last assigned GM in service and they send parts labeled for museum shipments" part.
Also I don't have a spare HG GM or RX-78 kit to harvest. If I bought another for this, I'd get a Jegan for the shield, arm might work from that if I try?
