for a 7500 yen kit, this is just sad.all the colorization are done through decals instead of different parts.
>>23774959
>>23774959Chamber's patterns are way too complex for color separation, especially at that scale, and a lot of them aren't separated by seamlines but go across a single part so doing individual colored pieces wouldn't look accurate.I actually built that one and the waterslides that came with it were surprisingly sturdy, thick and retard-proof compared to the ones I usually use. Only problem were the ones that went around hard edges that put up a bit of a fight unless you absolutely drenched them in softener.Hell, if it wasn't for the price I'd even call it a really good water decal practice kit.

Question, are fake model kits reproductions an actual thing? And if so how good/bad are they compared to the real thing? Asking cause Im curious about thoses I always see on aliexpress
>>23775056YesDepends on the company. They die and resuurect constantly so it's kinda a dice roll. Ranges from shit quality copy of Bandai's runners, to acceptable knockoff, to "it's a model kit version of a Metal Build" to "Bandai could never" If you want one of the latter, check out the Osiris Dominator (MGEX Kshatriya) or Star Abyss (MGEX Harute).
>>23775056Shit like JMS is on Bandai level, everything else is a mixed bag
Is it true most of you don't watch the shows and just buy the kits? I don't care how good a kit is, or how the mecha looks, but I will buy almost any kit if it is an MS that Char piloted. Am I the weirdo here?
>>23775065>JMS is on Bandai level, Lmao you're serious?
>>23775077I had their G-line bootleg and it's pretty much flawless
The HG L Gaim is such a bizarre build. It has like half of an inner frame and everything fits together so strangely. Haven't enjoyed the actual build process of a kit this much since my first PG.
>>23775066I started off like that but as I watch more stuff I end up wanting the kits from series I like, and I want to check out the series that kits I enjoy are from. This sadly ended up with me becoming a huge SEEDfag but it is what it is
>>23775066I've watched every show multiple times.
>>23775104I've never watched SEED. Isn't it just a retelling of 0079?
>>23775111you wish.
>>23775116I don't. It possibly being a retelling of 0079 is mostly why I have avoided the show. For whatever reason I've dropped most of the AUs I've tried to watch except for G.
>>23775086It's flawless when you ignore its flaws. I've built 3 jms bootleg kits and they're all the same with the plastic quality, and fitting issues.
>>23775111It lifts heavily from it for a while in the structure of events, basically until the halfway point it's following the same events White Base does roughly, but it's also pretty distinct because it ends up focusing on fairly different character drama overall than the original does throughout all that and the second half is pretty much entirely different.
>>23775111First half of the original is, but then it becomes 0079 if both the feds and Zeon were comically racist and wanted to entirely wipe out the other side and if the White Base joined up with Char to kill off the Zabis and all of the Federation leadership. Destiny is about a cabal of arms merchant that control Earth's government from the shadows in order to profit off of endless war and the mad lad from space who wants to overthrow them to openly control the world's governments. Freedom is basically just about petty relationship drama.
>>23775123>>23775124You know what? I'm just going to stick with Tominoshit and watch Dunbine again.
>>23775127I think there's a lot of the original SEED worth seeing but you do you

>>23775056I built a HG Kampfer and it was perfectly fine, dirt cheap too so just pick up a few to see for yourself
>>23775137Because I like fantasy?
There's no way in hell Bandai would ever make an MG XI Gundam Ver.KA, that would be ridiculous.

>>23775236I got something floppy for you right here, fruitcup.
>>23775144It would be the size of a PG and cost like one to. And I don't think modern Bandai has it in them these days to do it.
>>23775246How can you say that after they just made the PG Nu? It's a $700 kit. MG Xi would be 150-200 at the most.
>>23775260The last regular PG release was 5 years ago, man. And you said it yourself, the PGU Nu is 700 fucking dollars. They're not willing to make kits that size for a reasonable price anymore. They'd rather upcharge for a more complicated build than make regular kits at the size of 1/60. It feels like the regular PG line is pretty dead, and an MG Xi would be similar to a PG.
>>23775262Wait, no. It was SIX years ago now, in 2020.
Bless USAGundam for shipping a pre-order on time for once.
>>23775262They just made the Psyco Mark II, which is the size of PGs, for a very reasonable price thoughbeit.

>>23775066Gundam fans have this weird purity testing about how Gunpla fans who don't watch the show aren't real Gundam fans, but they ignore the fact that Gunpla are the easiest model kits to build on the planet and come in a variety of shapes and colors and grades, meaning there's something for anyone. This shit is sold in convenience stores between the onigiri and the disposable umbrellas. You can have a bookcase full of models and go your entire life without knowing or caring what the fuck an Amuro is. There's a reason they have multiple life-sized Gundam statues but not a single one of the actual pilots. And the people who buy Gunpla do more for Gundam than UC-purists who spend all their time online sucking Tomino's cock and getting mad at SEEDfags. The holy grail for Bandai is if they could sell kits without having to rely on making an expensive anime to advertise it. Cough cough Crossbone.
>>23775424>You can have a bookcase full of models and go your entire life without knowing or caring what the fuck an Amuro isyou could, and maybe one person out there does, but most people know something about it. It's a major cultural force in Japan. There's an entire world of difference between having watched MSG and not knowing who Amuro or Char is while you own a Gundam kit. Very few people are in that latter camp. They didn't get to this level of model kit construction and dominance by just making plastic models. They got their because the entire brand pushes the sales."Model kit building" as a hobby entirely unto itself is not really as much of a thing people get into explicitly as it used to be. The hobby of dedicated model kit building is a shadow compared to Gunpla or other avenues involving it, like Tabletop wargames where the point is just as much to have something to do with the models as it is to build them.
These things would be excellent candidates for Full Mechanics kits, if not outright Master Grades. They all have the same basic frame, with just variations in equipment, stylistic appearance, and color, which should make them relatively easy to design and print. Plus, with the 00 S1 Celestial Being Gundams having been finished just a few years ago, they would be great for continuing the trend, maybe even for the 20th anniversary.

Gan Jiang sits on my backlog for now but seems to be overall excellent if not for the weight of the backpack (backpack has more metal than the mech proper). I have Zhao Yun upcoming and everyone says it's as solid as a statue. Lu Bu seems to be their best one yet and it just released and mine is still stuck at PO hell. >>23776150What makes a kit trash or not? Does it matter if a kit is trash if it is of a MS I like? I didn't think the Qubeley kit was very good, but I still bought it because I am /m/'s #1 Hamanfaggot. I hear some Hyaku Shiki kits are trash because depending on the coating they are unforgiving if you scratch them wile getting nubs off, in which case that seems like a pretty objective reason to call it trash. The Woundwort kit was a hand grenade, and I didn't like it for those reasons, but it is still a beautiful kit.Like what makes a kit good or not? It just seems really arbitrary to me.Sorry for being a Gunpla newfag.
>>23776158The hyaku shiki 2.0 is great and the gating is designed to minimize any chance of damaging the plating. If you went gorilla mode on it that's not a problem with the kit it's a problem with you. The 1.0 is good for its time but is obsolete. The rest aren't plated at all.

>>23776325Just answer the question or drop it anon. Honestly Ive made my points so feel free to get in the last word
I just built my first MG (pic related) and the whole building experience kinda blew me away honestly, it was so satisfying to apply the psycho frame and then covering it up knowing that at the end of the process you'll get to see the psycho frame revealed again. Maybe all MGs are like this but the engineering was just so damn cool to see unfold. When you finish the kit it's the armored unicorn mode and watching it all split apart in ways you didn't even expect the parts to move even though you built the damn thing, watching the limbs and torso extend and the whole silhouette becoming more menacing and "final boss" looking..fuck yea man. Really made me appreciate the Unicorns design. I still think most of the variations are way less cool though, I don't know if I'd get another.
>>23776328I already answered it. You're too stupid to understand it, actually, which is why you think giving money to chang is better than a billion dollar corporation making the designs you want to buy in the first place.
when is the FA ZZ going to be available. I am tired of watching the jp bros building and painting it.
Honest question do these people buying bootleg really think they are in some sort of resistance group or something? I don't get how they are always seething and mention Bandai out of nowhere.
>>23776324I'm the person in the last thread who was recently diagnosed with epilepsy and got back into this hobby as a means of rehab to help improve my dexterity. I was asking about bootlegs to see if the kits were sturdy enough. I brought up money and supporting Bandai because I need to think about medical bills on top of other expenses. I am American and medical shit isn't cheap here, and I genuinely love UC Gundam and I want to show my support for the franchise any way I can.I wasn't expected to be called a bootlicker. My bad. End of blogpost.
>>23776329That's more just a Unicorn experience than MG's in general. They can vary wildly in terms of engineering and gimmicks.
>>23776333Plenty of people buy bootlegs without jerking themselves off about it because PB bootlegs can be much easier to get compared to the real deal especially in markets without a PB store, but it takes a special breed of delusional retardism to think it's some morally superior option.

>>23776344You? Nothing, because your IQ is below 70. I just felt the need to defend myself after reaching out to people in good faith and in return getting called a troll and a bootlicker.
>>23776125>What's the point of buying Chinese bootlegs?Any number of reasons but for me it's when a product is either too hard to find (i.e. Pbandai, out of circulation) or lacks an official model kit. It helps that mold injection tech is a lot more available now than 20 years ago so the quality is often better as well>>23776302To be fair, you wouldn't be supporting the manufacturer if you bought from a reseller. >>23776359Huh? Just hit the kit with some topcoat of your choice
>>23776362How many sprays? How far from the kit do I spray? Do I have to cover clear parts? Can I do it inside my apartment?
>>23776335>I want to show my support for the franchise any way I can>I was asking about bootlegs to see if the kits were sturdy enoughlying ass hoe
>>23775956>>23775957>three separate bandai logos
>>23776365Since it sounds like its your first time- get some good topcoat, i like Mr Super clear Matte. Part it out, so legs, arms, waist, etc. Get some sticks with alligator clips and clip the parts on then so you can rotate the part for full coverage. Hold the can eh, roughly 9 inches away and start spraying, you want it to look wet but not dripping. 1 coat is usually enough. Stick the clipped parts into some stirofoam to dry. Dont do it inside
>>23776372Also, yea cover up clear parts. Also also, humidity can effect it, whats the temperature where you live?
>>23776373imo just remove clear parts altogether if possible. just reattach them after topcoat.
>>23776372>don't do it insideYeah I'm skipping it. I hope setter is enough to keep the decals on
>>23776373It's really hot outside atm but like I said I live in an apartment I'm not gonna start doing it in the street like an autist
>>23776376It looks far, far better when you topcoat a kit, the entire kit. It takes away the plastic toy look. And dude, why dont you want to do it outside? It takes less then 5 minutes. Topcoat should be mandatory IMO, the kit looks so much better after. If you dont want to touch grass, you could do it in your bathroom or something
>>23776378You are way too concerned with what others think of you, no one will even know what your doing.
>>23776381Bro, best case scenario people film me and upload to twitter, worst case I get robbed
>>23776380Can it be a very ventilated area, like the place where I hang my clothes to dry? Even if there's a roof?
>>23776387Yes, you just need airflow as it lets off organic vapors that will give you cancer and get you high as it dries along with the paint that doesn't make it onto the model. For that same reason make sure you are spraying away from things you don't want to paint.
>>237749561/144 Gyan Cannon almost done, when the FUCK are they going to release the other Gyan variants? Am I really going to have to make them all myself? They got my hopes up with the Gyan Krieger but it's been nothing but disappointment since then.
>>23776125>>23776236To legitimately answer your question:1. The original product is out of stock and/or scarce. Bandai does a terrible job of keeping popular kits in print (though with how fuckhueg their catalog is that's kind of understandable), so sometimes bootlegs are the only way to get a kit without waiting 2-5 years. This is especially true of P-Bandai or Gundam Base exclusives that haven't been sold on the US P-Bandai webstore in years or ever, such as MG Turn A Moonlight Butterfly wings (the only one available right now includes the entire kit and is price-hiked to hell due to tariffs, so if you already bought/have a MG Turn A you're shit out of luck) and HG GM Spartan.2. It's simply cheaper. Besides tariffs being a factor, it's an easy way to save money if people just want the kit. Sometimes the official kit isn't worth the money, like the MG The-O which is a 2010 kit built with 2004 engineering and priced like a luxury good due to the raw amount of plastic (and doesn't even have the decency to include extra beam sabers for the sub-arms).3. Bandai never made a product that the bootleggers are selling. For instance, Axis Model Works (formerly Solomon) has a MG quality GP02 which is legitimately better than the official MG GP02, a 1998 kit; and they also made a MGEX quality Kshatriya, whereas an official Kshatriya only exists in HG scale.4. For practice. The vast majority of bootleg kits (e.g. Daban) have all sorts of flaws that make them terrible to build, ignore anyone who says that they're just as good as Bandai. But if you get good at modeling, you can fix these flaws yourself and turn an 85% kit into something closer to 98%, all while paying 40% of the cost. Also, maybe people just want kitbash fodder or custom projects, and getting ahold of a bootleg for that is a lot easier. There are probably more reasons, but those are the major ones.
>>23776393is this the e2046 recast? I have it in my backlog, how was it?
>>23776393they just made the gyan dogknot
>>23776395I just want to thank you for being an adult and giving a sincere and adult answer. What you did is so hard to come by on this website or anywhere anymore, and I really do appreciate it. If there were more people like you in this hobby then I think more people would be more willing to engage with it.
>>23776399Sorry man, that'd require moderation dealing with blatant shitposters.
>>23776393At least the Gyan got a revive. It's been 20 years since we got a new 1/144 Gelgoog and I will never not be mad about it
>>23774956I got the FM Forbidden Gundam finished. I've been putting this thing off for a couple years so it's nice to finally have it on a shelf with the other 2nd gen units.
>>23774956>>23776408
>>23776408>>23776410Nice. I managed to get ahold of Forbidden and Raider earlier this year, but no Calamity yet.
>>23776407the current HGUC is 100% fine
If I just want to get rid of the plasticky look of a bare model, is there a point to priming and repainting it in the original color or is a topcoat enough?
>>23776416good flat topcoat (provided you do even wet coats) is generally enough. you can see spots here where I lacked good coverage or the topcoat has been scraped off (top rounded corner of shield, shoulder spikes, right forearm).
>>23776416If thats all your looking for topcoat will be enough
>>23776416Bare topcoat has a different texture from paint, and it looks very obvious even if you just want to get rid of the plastic look. Painting also allows you to color correct parts that are molded in the wrong color, and trying to paint only those parts but leaving the rest unpainted also looks very obviously different even if you topcoat afterward.
>>23776416Clean nubs, panel line, decals and stickers applied, matte top coat round 1 , charcoal pencil along the edges of parts as necessary, little acrylic metal paint dried out on a paint brush with the tips cut nice and short, do a little dry brushing as necessary, matte top coat round 2 Badabing badaboom Your gunpla now looks good as fuck, you engaged in the hobby a little deeper and weren't a snapfagI also like to paint my V fins
>>23776422weathering bare plastic always looks shittopcoat on bare plastic can be fine, but combining the two always looks bad
>>23776407
>>23776413I don't disagree but it could be better. My dream would be a RG Gelgoog with the same level of engineering and detail as the RX-78 2.0
>>23776427yuck, the RG 2.0 sculpt is horrid
>>23776427>I want a good design to be ruined with random nonsensical holes all over the kitGood god, what a fag
>>23776436>>23776444That's just my preference and you're welcome to disagree.HG or RG, doesn't matter. Just give me a Gelgoog with double jointed elbows and a better head sculpt in 1/144 scale and we're golden>>23776426Don't reply to me or my 'goog ever again.
for me it's the Gelgoog variantsMarine and Jager would sure love more modern kits, even just being on the quality of the HG Gelgoog would be wonderful
>>23775810Do you hate paint thinners too?
>>23776005I can vouch for the Ao Bing, very cool kit with a massive footprint. Slightly unrelated but the SNAA Martial Emperor is also a very cool chinaman kit which is also absolutely huge . Also why not- the Zero Gravity Judge looks cool but legit has the worst holding hands ever and is a total bitch to pose. But yea looks cool
What's HLJ shipping to the US like these days? I'm not throwing it on a boat because I'm only getting looking at a couple things, the Plaiobot Gurren Lagann and Lazengann.
>>23776361>RG UnicornI fucking HATED that thing. I'm not even one of the people who snapped the arm joints, and I thought it was a pain in the ass from start to finish. It's so fragile and sheds parts so easily, and parts of the transformation are just such shit.
Somehow, Plannosaurus returned...

>>23776493where are the feathers?
>>23776493Because you can make badass robo-skeletons with the bones.
>>23776510These kits have those as alternate parts.
>>23776396It's not the e2046 recast, I got 3d printed parts from a Gyan Cannon STL file on cults3d to put on the Gyan revive.I did see the recast on e2046 too, and I think it wouldn't be too hard to use those parts on the Gyan Revive too, if that's what you're aiming for.I've been waiting for the Gyan High Mobility type to finally be in stock in e2046 for what feels like my whole life.>>23776397The what?>>23776407Fair, I've been waiting for a revive or RG goog for a damn long time now. I've seen chinese 3d printed Gelgoog conversion kits that use the GTO Zaku frame as a base (pic related) that I've been thinking of picking up since the GTO kits have great articulation and details.
>>23776494Wait a second, that's not an ancient specimen! That's a regular manatee!
>>23776502why is it that whenever these get posted some butthurt retard starts crying about them? they look cool

anyone here built the moderoid zark from argento soma?
>>23776532not yet but I have it. I should build it today
The closer it gets to the release of the Full Armor ZZ, the more I realize I don't really like it as much as the regular ZZ. If I was going to have all those extra pieces, I'd prefer them on the FAZZ. THAT looks better with the big ass gun in those colors. I'm just going to get a regular ZZ instead. Not even an Enhanced ZZ.
Just finished snapshidding my first ever gunpla and honestly it's kind of shit, the wings won't stay on the back at all, the hands fall off if you move them a little bit, the wing shield is too small and doesn't look at all like a cool cape. The feet and the hips aren't as articulate as I'd like but it's easy to pose around and make it stand on its own so it's not too bad I guess.
>Osiris Aerial Dominator 30% off at USAGS today>that equates to a $154 purchaseShit is almost as cheap as buying on AliExpress, anyone who's been on the fence because of the price, now's a good time.
>>23776546Eh...how long is this thing likely to be in print? I'm mildly interested, but I've spent too much recently. But I'd still pick it up if it was in danger of disappearing forever and the price exploding from rarity.
>>23776540peep me kosted
>>23776548It's being made by a Chinese bootlegging company, they aren't hogtied in the same way that Bandai is. They'll keep making it as long as they're in existence and don't get C&Ded or disband/go bankrupt. And I'll be honest, if you go on AliExpress instead, you could probably find one for around $140-150, wait for Ali to do their coupon shit that they do every few weeks and skim around $15 off the top, and get free shipping, spending a total of like $140 plus a minor amount of tax for it. So overall, still cheaper than USAGS without having to wait nearly as long for a deal. It's just that not everyone trusts Ali, which is fully up to you.
>>23776556I've bought more than a few kits from Ali, so I'm not scared of them. I'll probably wait on that one for a few months until a good spot opens up in my box shelves and I can get a decent deal. It's just not a very high priority, as nice as I've heard it is.
>>23775433>>23775435I've always wanted a Throne Zwei in something other than HG 1/144.
>>23776543You picked a very old kit to start with.
>>23774956Finished the blitz gundam. The original plan was to chrome and tint everything but I hated how it looked.
>>23776543Terrible kit to start with anon, its like night and day compared to newer kits
>>23776565>>23776579>oldI realize that now, but I like Master Gundam. I understand why it was so cheap.
Any tips to clean this up? I used Gundam marker paint(with a thin brush). Also for future reference, is there an easier way mask stuff for small stuff like this? I feel like tape was the wrong choice (I used the small Tamiya masking tapes)
>>23776585The high grade master gundam is very good. Check the date on the bottom left of the front of the box to see the kits year. Old doesn't mean bad but sometimes old kits are quirky.
>>23776587Nail brushes?
Whats the best place to buy built kits for kitbashing? Mercari? Suru? I really wanna do it in bulk.
>>23776593I see tons of already built kits on the online store of Goodwill all the time. Scrolling through it, there's a ton even now for cheap.
>>23776590I'm not trying to trigger the guy about trans people and nails again. They are pretty cheap to buy and have a flat edge which makes them good for erasing and cleaning up mistakes.
>>23776585If you're a fan of G Gundam in general, the RG's of Shining and God are really good. You can even get a quality upscaled bootleg of the God at 1/00 scale from a company called 'Fat Cat'.
Can't Bandai just reuse the God Gundam RG frame for Build Burning
>>23776603Probably can, but why would they
>>23776590>>23776598unfortuantely the paint is dry, but noted for future. i thought i could clean it up with 99% iso, but it wont budge
>>23776604It will sell like hotcakes
What to do if all the kits you want are TBA
>>23776640paint
Kotobukiya is taking too long to release that VIOS Orbiter before Trump ends everything
>>23776645Eat it? Huff it?
>>23776700>the world ends just as gunpla is starting to get good I knew it would be some gay shit like this
>>23776606Pretty sure gundam markers are lacquer paint. You'd probably do better with Mr Color Thinner or similar.
>>23776727Then how come sniffing them doesnt give me the same high as regular lacquer paint that comes in the little jars
>>23776395>For instance, Axis Model Works (formerly Solomon) has a MG quality GP02 which is legitimately better than the official MG GP02, a 1998 kit; and they also made a MGEX quality Kshatriya, whereas an official Kshatriya only exists in HG scale. How do kits like that even happen? Is it really just that easy to design one? Is it disgruntled Bandai engineers?I've seen one that was like an MG Jagd Doga and it looked like it was designed by kitbashing a RE/100 Jagd Doga with the MG Geara Doga and then just making copies of all the parts they used, but that Kshatriya model is insane and must be almost if not entirely bespoke parts.
>>23776738At this point designing a kit like that isn't that hard. Having the funding to produce a mold for it and access to injection plastic machines is very, very expensive and limiting though. There are a lot of 3D print makers with as elaborate of designs.
Reminder that nothing ever actually happens
>>23776738My guess is they hired people who actually knew what they were doing. There are actual Chinese modeling companies with decent know-how like 107 Models (they make the reinforced joint/inner frame packages for RG kits), Dalin Model (variations of the Emotion Manipulators and add-ons for all sorts of kits), Effects Wings (backpack expansions), and so on. Not all of them are Daban-tier where they just 3D-scan the Bandai kits and use their substandard equipment to make copies. Then you also have 3D printed parts companies, where the only barrier is having a decently high-resolution resin printer that's properly calibrated. You just need to 3D model the parts you want and print them with supports, but it's basically an entirely different beast from plastic mold injection.
>>23776727They are alcohol based. They are meant to be used by kids who can't be trusted not getting high
>>23776776For some reason the excess won't come off with 99% iso, or is it just still just really hard to do so?
>>23776777once it's cured it's pretty hard to dissolve, yeah
>>23776777Leave it in there overnight and hit it with a brush.
>>23776777Non-lacquer paints usually actually cure and become harder and stronger as they do so. Lacquers are weird in that they don't cure, only dry.
>>23776738>How do kits like that even happen? With Solomon/Axis it's probably some freelance modelers that have experience and some money coming together and seeing that there's an untapped market for bootleg gunpla that mimics Bandai's MGEX style but isn't just really bad copies of already existing kits or spiked and overly greebled abominations
>>23776789It is an overgreebled abomination thoughbeiton the lower end for chinkpla but absolutely still is
>>23776781zamn, would something like the mister thinner work when its cured?>>23776782well im just tryna clean up the mess, not necessarily remove the paint>>23776787so not even something like mr thinner wont work huh? rip bozo me ig, next time i wont wait for it to dry then
>>23776795cleaning up doesn't work well. if you fucked up painting you should strip the paint and just redo it.
>>23776795Iso will do it, it just has to soak a bunch. You aren't reactivating the paint like you do with lacquers, you are instead using the iso as a solvent which takes more time. You can't really do detail work with that, but you can do a full stripping.
>>23776796>>23776797Oh ok so really only way is to redo everything? Sux ig.. uhh if that's the case, is it even possible to mask this? Or use flat brush like what was suggested?
>>23776800It's the best way. You can technically mask pretty much anything, it's just a matter of effort. For a simple gundam shield's yellow bit yeah, you can do it no problem.
>>23776800Tape is the way to go. Just let the paint cure before removing it. Also since you need to let it cure anyway, you likely can get away with just painting the whole thing one color, then let it cure, then mask, then put in the other color.
>>23776800I guess you could make gelled isopropyl and just let it sit on the parts you wanna clean but I have no idea how to gel isopropyl
>>23776803>>23776804The problem with tape I initially had was it just wouldn't stick to the shield and kept moving a lot, maybe because I cut them too small? I can't get the tape to be flush to the side of the star for crisp lines pmuch. Also I'm only really painting the star not the whole shield.
>>23776808What type of tape are you using?
>>23776811I got the Tamiya masking tape the 6mm ones, should I use regular masking tape?
>>23776814Nope Tamiya tape is fine. It should have no problem sticking. In fact, most people stick it to a surface first to pull some of the glue off so it has a little LESS sticking power, because it can rip up paint you put it over. Not an issue for you though. In your case you might find it easy to simply layer the tape over it and use a fresh hobby knife blade to trim out what shouldn't be covered, then run along the edges with a toothpick. I also suggest spraying a coat of clear first. That'll seep into any cracks and crevices or imperfect fits and help seal them up before you spray on the actual coating.
huh
>>23776820cute
>an unpainted, 1/144 scale Super Sentai robo kit is the same price as a large scalped P-Bandai MG like Astray Red DragonWhat
>>23776833Yeah it's almost like Bandai has to share some of the profit with Sentai or something
>>23776303
I'm gonna be moving soon and my current setup is in a vacant room where I don't have to worry about residue or spills or things like that, but in my new apartment I'll definitely have to have it in a room in my living space, and I have a cat. What's the best way to handle the setup? Dunno if I'll be able to give it its own room.Assuming I'm gonna have to buy a fan booth, right?
>>23776848Or make your own booth, though you'll probably still have to buy the fan
what's the appeal of clear plastic kits
>>23776855I buy them if theyre cheaper or easier to find cuz im just gonna paint it anyway
>>23776848Even with a spray booth, you still don't want your cat in the same room since the fumes take time to get sucked out. So maybe consider putting your setup in a room that you can lock your cat out of.

Anons, I wanted to start using liquid panel liner and got some Tamiya accent color. I did my reading and thought I had everything together: I got a gloss of the normal top coat I use, and some mineral spirits to clean up the liner. But NOW I’m hearing that what I was going to use, Mr. Super Clear Gloss, won’t react well with the liner? Please take pity on me and spoonfeed this retard, what specific gloss coat should I use if I’m going to put Tamiya accent color and then Mr Super Clear Matte over top of it?

>>23777230You don't play as V. II Snail
>>23777040I get most of my chinese 3d printed conversion kits on a site called goofish. You can't order from them directly without a chinese phone number or something, so you'll have to use a middleman site to order through like sugargoo. You'll also have to search the names in Chinese but that's easy enough to google. They've got a lot of good kits there, once you get used to navigating the sites.
>>23777244I don’t know, anon, I can’t make heads or tails of this fucking paint stuff. I’m safe to put whatever tamiya liner is between what I’ve been told is lacquer based top coat?
>>23777255try itworst case scenario you make mustard gas
>>23777235It will be fine. Tamiya panel liner is enamel paint which has completely different chemistry than both water/alcohol acrylics and lacquers. The reason why is because the thinners you use for it won't effect those paints and vice versa. Also if you aren't actually painting the kit and it's PS, just panel line it on the runners and skip with the bottom top coat. You only need 2 coats if you painted, or the part is ABS or some other plastic that doesn't like enamel thinner.
>>23777153You got it bro, knowing you'll be out there building and painting will give me the motivation I need to finally get started. What's your idea for your entry? My problem is that I have multiple ideas and I can't decide which to go with.
Holy shit the Victory Gundam is actually being restocked. Argama is showing it but I'm not a leaf so it's not worth it, going to hope USA or maybe someone else state side gets the Vdash
>>23777266I got my 2 Victory's from Newtype already, but I wasn't wanting the dash parts again.
>>23777259>>23777257Thank you anons, my indecision on this has been a months long delay on my building. I’ll give it a shot.
>>23777272Just don't let it pool (big puddles of it) and try to avoid where nubs were if you precut it. Both won't guarantee that a part is effected if you do it, but it's easy to avoid. That said I've broken more parts due to lacquer based clear coats at the end of a build than due to panel liner.
>kind of want the MG Ex-S because it's such a beautiful goddamn clusterfuck>but it's a retool of old 2002-era kits and most certainly not worth the asking price>the only bootleg that exists is Daban's knockoff of the 2003 kit, not even the goddamned decency to copy the 2019 kitYou know, I would think that making desirable bootlegs of the Ex-S would be a huge money-maker, so why don't more Chinese bootlegging companies try for it? Certainly it can't be beyond their capabilities, even the 2019 kit is barely an improvement over the originals.
>>23777285It's a lot of plastic and expensive so probably not worth it.
>>23777285If MGSD sells well, chinks will make a new MG just for you
My understanding for 8th MS kits is that the HG's are pretty good, while the older MG's are total dog-ass, right?
>>23777217Turn AI bought the MG and Syd Mead book and believed the hype, but I actually watched the show when it was free on Youtube and it was boring as shit. And then I started to realize how goofy the actual suit is. The weird uterus (Tomino's own words) cockpit. The Salvador Dali mustache. How it was never designed around Moonlight Butterfly because the particles clearly appear out the suit's back without any visible emitters. Even Tomino outright said it was a mistake asking Syd Mead to design the thing. Now I can't stand this ugly suit, wished I never spent money on it and am no longer surprised why Turn A was a disaster financially.
>>23777296The MGs are fine, particularly the Gundams. They have really bad hands and seamline problems but that's it. They're well made kits otherwise. The Gouf Custom isn't particularly bad either overall but definitely not as nice as the Ground Gundams.
>>23777297astoundingly dogshit taste
>>23777296The HGs are more recent, so the engineering is pretty good, while new MGs haven't actually been made for a couple decades at this point. That being said, the MGs have a huge amount of extra accessories, and them being old kits means they tend to end up on the cheaper end of the spectrum.
>>23777285What do you really want that the current kit doesn't do
>>23777297It's crazy how you can be so confidently wrong
>>23777114as per the marketing tendencies, she will show up when your wallet is dried of its fundings
>>23777306Is it too much to ask for a fully complete transformation system that doesn't require disassembling the thing? From my understanding they didn't want to rebuild the transformation system from the ground up, which is why they used the 2002 and 2003 kits as the base for the 2019 kit. I dunno, maybe in another 5-8 years they'll attempt to build a Ver. Ka from the ground up, or some Chinese company will take a stab at it.
>>23777316It's definitely a lot to ask for because the Ex-S's torso transforming two different ways is a complete fucking nightmare especially with the weight of the boosters. The Ex-S transformation already has to lift the torso off the corefighter to begin with, it's only very barely "whole" during the process with just the I-Field chest cover remaining as an attachment point. You'd be asking for an insanely fiddly model for very little reason to just have a single step changed in the transformation.

>>23777652Sorry I forgot that 00 not only got a good HG line while it was airing but also a good 1/100th line and then got all of its first season Gundams as MGs, 3 of which are very recent, while still getting new HGs as recent as months ago.Tiniest fucking fiddle anon. The tiniest. 00 is one of the best off series any way you slice it. Sorry you don't get an MG every year when all of 2 MGs might come out in a year. Maybe you'll just have to realize the show's almost two decades old now and there's not much going on with it so you should actually just be fucking happy anything recent has come out at all instead of being saved for its 20th anniversary.
>>23777654>bro be happy with those garbage S1 HGs and scaled up S2 HGs lol
Fun little kit. He's just so TINY, smaller even than my HG Leo. The G Rework slides were the good choice, I feel. Better looking than most other sheets I found. Gonna top coat him matte when the rain fucks off. Also, had a fun little idea to maybe spray paint the cloak gloss black, and then coat it with Tamiya Pearl coat. The idea is that the cloak is supposed to be a cloaking device, right? With that combo, maybe it would look like space reflecting stars.
>>23777657Yeah. If your taste wasn't as basic bitch as possible you'd be really thankful a ton of grunts got decent quality kits to begin with. Many people would kill for Wing's lesser grunts to get an HG. Woe is you, unable to buy another variant of the Exia from the dozen available.
>>23777658It's not really a cloaking device, but it does hide some of the heat signature and is, well, a cloak. It's beam resistant, that's the primary point of it, ablative defense.

>>23777661Correct. Far better than you're going to get of a Taurus.
Finally got Turn A done. Was kind of a messy build, since the one I did before didn't have any articulation, so adding that into the mix complicated things. Really want to start working on Engage SR3 by wave, but might do Nobel Gundam before that just to get a bit more practice in.

Not trying to shill anything here, but this random video of a guy unboxing his P-Bandai gacha box came up on my feed, and I thought it would be interesting for people who are curious about its contents:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzGDioQ-PW0TL:DR the guy bought the 8-item gacha box (which I think was around $150) and got:HG Altron ($27-29 USD)HG Turn A Moonlight Butterfly wings ($22 USD)RE/100 Vigna-Zirah ($50-58 USD)RG Avalanche Exia' ($66 USD)RG Novel Hi-Nu Hyper Mega Bazooka Launcher + Funnel Effects ($37 USD)HG Gundam Plutone Black ($32 USD)HG Heingra ($22 USD)MG Gundam Evolve Gray Zeta ($72-91 USD)So, it seems to mostly corroborate all other accounts that the gacha boxes do give you more value for your purchase, and isn't just filled with leftover slop. It also seems to mostly match stuff that is currently available in the store and/or recently printed, and isn't Gundam Base clear color or special coating kits.
>>23777739You're mainly hearing from people who spray dull/matt coat straight onto bare plastic to get rid of the plastic sheen look. It's definitely an improvement, but still pales in comparison to an actual paint job. Which, yes, the top coat is there to protect the paint and decals from being as easily damaged, though obviously there is a limit to what a paper-thin coat of clear paint can protect against.
>>23777472Hopefully never
>>23777647Dragon Momoko used to make AGE kits in the past. Their AGE-1 Razor was even better than Bandai's since the green parts were actual clear parts instead of stickers.

>>23778081Ive never gotten a MG kit before so im unsure wether regular beam sabers would be too small for him to wield. Otherwise i should have some spares lying around.

>>23778084that's the same as the one dalong has, but he makes no reference to the DVD in his review
>>23778082SB-1 is the specific runner. It's used in almost every MG and a few HGs, but usually only HGs with larger sabres (ZZ, Psyco). Very common. There's only a couple sabre molds 99% of kits use.
>>23778091a good example of a kit with the yellow MG sabers is HGUC nightingale I have spares from that

Fortunately you probably only want one extra too, unless you don't want it with the rifle at all. But everyone knows this pose is the coolest and what you wanna do with it.
>>23778081even the hg comes with 4 wtf were they thinking?
I'm okay with spending 150 dollars on a model kit but having to go through my huge box of sabers is where I draw the line
>>23778101they were thinking "we don't even really want to release this but everyone's asking about that prototype so here it is fuck you, oh wow look at that no one bought it just as we expected fuck you all enjoy your 2 beam sabres and an out of date mold you bitches enjoy not getting a reprint for 20 years"
>>23778104The mold is fine
>>23778105It's okay. It's noticeably lazy in many areas even at the time, like not having every (large) vernier part separated at all. It isn't the end of the world or anything but there is a good reason it was considering disappointing. They phoned it in. It's still a good sculpt overall but it's lacking for one of the most expensive MG kits.
>>23778112They just charge by volume of plastic. It's a lot of plastic.
>>23778114It certainly is but again, people would've been happier if it was even 5k yen more expensive and detailed to the degree the MG line was. Reminder that it came out at the same time as the MG V Dash and ReZEL. It's got several areas that are done more lazily than the original MG Sazabi or even the Ex-S 1.0.
>>23778115>5k500 to 1k got compressed in my brain oopsy. No one woulda been happy with a 17k yen The O in 2010.

>>23778098its a gundam seed destinynot a destiny gundam, it's the gundam seed destiny ""aesthetic"" as a wholeit's distilled SEA
>>23778098Head looks like a mix of Exia and Wing
>>23778114Plastic doesn't cost them shit. They do factor it into the cost, but it's way less than you think. It's way more about the mold price in general and return on investment per printing compared to other products. The cost of the raw plastic compared to something like an HG is less than 10 bucks. But that HG will be bought many more times, can be printed faster due to the amount of runners, and will ultimately make them way more money than anytime they take up a production slot with an MG The O.
>>23778134Mold is not as expensive as you think. Even the Changs can produce their own mold and sell you 3 times cheaper. But as an exchange, they use literall gutter plastic to cut the cost. The mold is a long term investment. Even Bandai themselves would rather sell you trash than to buy good plastic for the production.
>>23778134it's way way way less than 10 bucksraw abs plastic stock sold in bulk on the consumer market is about $2 a kilogram, I'm sure Bandai gets it even cheaper than that. A high grade is about 100-300g of plastic, even if you're generous and add another 200g of just runner material you're still looking at less than a dollar worth of plastic.
>>23778136The mold is a long term investment yes, and then they have opportunity costs on reprinting it because they're juggling tons of products. The plastic cost is only important relative to what they can produce otherwise with the same amount. It's all just expected returns based on simple production factors and market demand.>>23778137Yeah I wasn't confident enough and didn't want to bother looking up the exact costs to say $1 so I just covered my ass with what I knew was well above it.
>>23778141The plastic as a business expensive is damaging when the product flopped. You only need to make one set of mold for one kit, but you need enough plastic to print about 1 million copies for country wide distribution. And even when something flopped, it is not the end for Bandai. They have alot of best seller to carry the poorly sold ones. The-O MG however, is the victim of artificial scarcity, they refuse to reprint it in large quantity so collectors and hardcore fans will buy it when the reprint finally comes no matter the pricetag.
>>23778147you act like it's some utterly malicious thing but it's just the reality of business. It released, it did poorly, the expected return of reprinting is low compared to producing other things instead. It's just what you're going to deal with if what (you) want is the product they released that did shitty. That'll be true across everything everywhere, especially when it's a company with thousands of directly competing products, nevermind hundreds of thousands of other products.
>>23778147They didn't reprint it because the initial release bombed and they're not gonna keep making something nobody wanted. They started making it again once there was demand. Are you retarded?
They had these in stock for quite a while now so either the reprint was big enough or the hype not real. I considered getting one but I already have the HG so I got an Chang Kshatriya instead, that was €125,- including shipping
>>23778155It's generally now a bad time for expensive toy purchases for a lot of people who might have wanted one over the past few years across a lot of the world
>>23778155They've been doing massive reprints for the last year or so to prevent scalping
>>23778154>and they're not gonna keep making something nobody wanted.I'm gonna be real with you, 80% of Bandai models are full of shit nobody wanted and they keep being reprinted anyway. The evidence of MG The O being an artificial scarcity is that MG reprint poll Bandai held around last year. You can call MG The O as "shit nobody wanted", but c'mon, 2 Ver Ka kits in this list. You are a fucking brain damaged retard if you are unable to see through this.
>>23778155there was hype?it's a big dumb brick kit of a big dumb brick mobile suit piloted by an asshole who's not even the most entertaining rapist in his showit's a kit for hipster contrarians who want a kit that's BIG but the sazabi ver ka is too mainstream
>>23778162Look at the picture you posted you retard. It got reprinted because of that poll. The original release bombed so it didn't get a reprint until consumers gave them a clear signal they wanted it. Not everything is some malicious conspiracy to deny you your toys.
>>23778157>>23778160I also have seen them for less, starting from €145,- Gunpla prices can vary wildly from store to store overhere. Some cheaper stores also still have stock, I just like GH, usually they have average prices compared to others so maybe they thought to make some extra money on a rare kit, idk.
>>23778162When's Turn X coming out anyway?
>>23778172The north american distributor says april
>>23778164>It got reprinted because of that poll. And why did they make that poll? For shit and giggles? Fucking faggot retard.
>>23778164Agree. Nobody cares about The O or FAZZ, that shit is gay. This is the modelkit for real /m/en.
>>23778175Because people wanted it. This is how they communicated actual consumer demand to the company and the company responded to it.Not everything is a conspiracy centered around making you unable to buy the toys you want. You are not important.
>>23778175Why are you so angry about toys?
>>23778175Specifically to let the "hardcore fans" get a voice in what they wanted to see being reprinted that hadn't in a while despite their popularity? The right thing? Like, what?
>>23778176uhoh, psycoframe activation incoming
>>23778179Apparently it's a bad thing if bandai asks customers what they want and then makes those products to sell them. They should have just asked this random third worlder with autism first and saved everyone their time.
>>23778164My memory's fuzzy, but I'm pretty sure the FAZZ and The-O got announced reprints before the poll (which also had Perfect Zeong as a winner). Those kits were already hitting retail outlets in the middle of last year, just not in the numbers people were expecting and with US shipments getting delayed because they decided to prioritize shipping to their Asian markets first.
>>23778184It's definitely why we're getting the turn X, v-dash and double X.
>I AM SO ANGRY AND MAD THAT BANDAI ISN'T REPRINTING THE KITS THAT I WANT>Bandai reprints the kit>STUPID FUCKING BANDAI RETARD AND THEIR ARTIFICIAL SCARCITY AYIIIIIIIEEEEEEI don't believe this is a real person.
>>23778177Bandai don't ask you to vote when they reprint dogshit like Guntank and random 30MM kits no one buys. It is a multi billion dollar corporation, the execs probably rape kids behind closed doors. They absolutely having malice and worse.
>>23778183You don't understand he saw a children's toy on the shelves today and it triggered him.
>>23778188Not everything is about you. Buy a guntank and have some fun with it.
>>23778189>>23778183I will fuck you in the ass first, and then you can vote if i'm gonna thurst harder or stop. I care about you, you see.
>>23778196You posted a photo of a new years sale of a very popular model kit and now you're threatening to rape people because they told you not everything is a conspiracy to hurt you. Settle down.
>>23778099How do I find more Detolfs?
>>23778192Shut the fuck up. You faggots were crying a bitch when Bandai made a bunch of new SEED kits.
>>23778196>the anon is undergoing.... an autism melty!!!
>>23778196Seek professional help, you're clearly unwell
>>23778200I like seed kits. Just finished one the other day. You cry every day about everything. You're crying now.
Are you that autistic retard who keeps making threads in /a/ about how unrealistic mecha is and have been schizo replying to himself in the thread? I think you are just because your autistic ramblings are very similar.
>>23778199a time machine to 10 years ago when they were cheap AF
>>23778197>very popular model kit Literally nobody asks for a revive HG for Guntank. It looks stupid as fuck.
>>23778207Yeah because the original is perfect as it is. No need to fuck with perfection.
>>23778207I'm gonna build my MG Guntank cus of this post.
the revive line has been over for a long time
>>23778209Enjoy assembling those threads.
>>23778209Based. It's a good kit.
>>23778211I got one assembled and put it all back in the boxI can do it this time.
I forgot to mention it is of course an OFFICIAL BANDAI™ Master Grade™ Guntank™ made only by the finest artisan plastic folders in Japan™ paid in full at retail price at my local hobby shop™
>>23778096already did
>>23778216meant for >>23778172
>>23778216With that shipping cost you are not even saving money getting it from Japan.
>>23778220He is getting it a good bit earlier though.
>>23778220not losing money thoughbeit I do not have local plamo shops in my country within 250km
>>23778215Not going to Holy Nippon to make the offering of your Neetbucks to Johny Bandai in person. You don't deserve that Guntank.
Ask to ship without the box to save a few dollars. They send it with the box anyways. Cool, I guess it would've been cheaper to do so instead of wrapping it in tons of bubble wrap just to put it in a box in the end.
>>23778216Whats the point with that shipping cost? You might as well buy it from a scalper.
>>23778239you underestimate how weak the yen is atmthat's only 220EUR before VAT
you know what, the chinkchads should make the nxedge style figures into model kids.
>>23778241(40k yen = ~220 eur for shipping AND the two kits)
>>23778242The only thing holding the Chinks back is their atrocious redesigns. Not saying Bandai isn't guilty of that, but Changs are just tasteless.
>>23778216Are you in the USA? How is internal shipping over there? In Euroland from a store that order would ad up to about what you pay and most stores do free shipping from €150,- if below that I pay about €7,- to €12,- in country and €10,- to €20,- from anywhere in Europe and I never had an upcharge for the package being to big.
>>23778246you will be paying minimum €150EUR just for the O in EUwith turn x you will probably be adding another €60-70, so the price is basically the same
>>23778250That's what I said, but if anon is in the USA, buys it there and has to ship it it may be more expensive. Overhere it is a flat rate, the price difference just depends on wich shipper you use but I sometimes hear USA people talking about calculating shippingcosts, I'm just curious. Europe and Dutchland in perticular is small and dense so shipping is easy and cheap.

Are those mystery bundles on P-bandai ever worth it or are they just trying to unload junk onto me?
>>23778331Ctrl-f gacha for an earlier post
>>23778331I got a MK-V from one but also some bullshit Build Divers thing and a pair of socks so whatever
>>23778331I wanted parts to mess with and ended up very pleased with the overstock I just received from their latest surprise bundle.Maybe I just wanted the Avalanche Exia who knows...
>>23778353Wasn't Altron given a retail release?
>>23778359Says year and a half ago. Probably A LOT of overstock. You have to remember the Japanese HATE chinks and everything they stand for
>>23774956Working on the terror mirage. Got this far into it for today. I feel like I've been really productive lately.>>23778275There's a lot of space battleship yamato stuff out there.
>>23778331See >>23777740>>23778353Your haul looks suspiciously equal to that guy's haul too. Makes me wonder if the contents aren't fully randomized.
>>23778377>wonder if the contents aren't fully randomizedI can see bandai being so cheap they would do this just to save on shipping.
>>23778386They're so cheap that they gave him 350 dollars of stuff for 150. How devilish of them.
>>23778377If it's the exact same isn't it overstock then?
>>23778386I actually kind of want a Gray Zeta, so I don't know if I'd take that plunge? A Daban knockoff exists, but who knows if their runners would include the extra junk pieces that the official kit would. Especially the Hyper Mega Launcher, which I might like for my MG Zeta Ver. Ka.>>23778393Each of those kits probably costs Bandai a maximum of $1-3 to produce, and not having to cut in the retailers for shelf space due to P-Bandai being its own webfront store, they would probably still make a pretty penny on the gacha boxes. This on top of likely having a business arrangement with FedEx for bulk shipping.I remember an anon who works at a modeling goods store saying that they get charged like $7 USD per HGUC The-O wholesale, so certainly this shit is still profitable even after all that. Bandai spends perhaps $10 on plastic, stickers, paper and cardboard to manufacture those nine kits, pays probably $5 to ship the whole box to your doorstep, and they get around $130-160 from you after taxes, tariffs and customs.
>>23778403Im >>23778353 and this was specifically 'SURPRISE GUNPLA BUNDLE J - 8 items' pretty sure the specific ones do matter
>>23778406Oh, so you ordered the exact same bundle that guy did, and got the exact same items. I thought you ordered the 9-item K bundle because of the RG Banshee add-on kit in your picture.
Oh Jesus shit, I just decided to check, and the example bundle image does explicitly show three of the kits you get in it. Despite the information explicitly saying that the example image is not a guarantee.
>>23778403You are delusional
>>23778410I got some other stuff and cropped put that box.Im sorry for misleading you anon. Cao Cao Wing will now execute Banshee for my honor is stained such

>>23776546I just saw one on Aliexpress for $115 with free shipping. I personally think the kit is ugly as fuck, so i didn't buy it.
when's the best time to slap on weathering? before my matte clear coat or after?
>>23778478Depends on how confident you are. Weathering is generally easier to clean off a glossy surface but it sticks much better to a matte one. Before if youre prone to mistakes and want to correct them easier, after if you know exactly what youre doing and wanna get it done quickly
>>23778486Aight, I'll do it on glossy surface for now then
>>23778488coward
>bought the MG Zeta Ver. Ka a decent time ago>it doesn't come with the Hyper Mega Launcher like the Zeta 2.0>there's an Effects Wings kit that contains a blue and a gray one>but the cheapest I can find it for is $27 USDIt almost doesn't seem fair.
Working on the Sarg tonight
WHERE'S THE FUCKING MG EXIA DARK MATTER REPRINT BANDAI?
>>23778420NTA but to be fair, 5 dollars is how cheap a SNAA's original is so the theory of Bandai losing 5 dollars per copy is not that far off. Stuff we pay for is mostly for the brand value.
>>23778520why do you even want shadow the exiahog
>>23778520Just buy the chinkified Exia Dark Matter
>>23778403>a maximum of $1-3 to produceDo you cunts really believe this delusional take? Electricity and labour alone doesn't cover that.

>>23778604>backflip spazzing through the air"VENGEANCE!!"
>>23776125Spite. The local official supplier hoards stuff like crazy and cracks down on any sellers that dare to import things themselves. I can tolerate the price gouging, but they only release new Gunpla stocks at big events or in such small increments that they're basically nonexistent. Heck, they hoard stuff for so long that bootlegs of Aerial were on sale before they even released their stock
