It's the same as how having Shinji grow more confident and willing to express himself through his interactions with others doesn't change the original themes of the original Eva, the hedgehog's dilemma and all that; if anything it emphasizes them by showing what can lead to the alternative. Gai's death usually happens very early on in the game, long before you get the high end SRs that can do whatever they want. Getting overwhelmed by a lot of enemies or your mothership being in danger can easily shut down a team, even if a SR or two exist.

Thematically, Gai's death is about how no one is an anime hero and death can come at any time, rather than in a dramatic fashion. Note in the show he doesn't die in battle unlike how his death happens in most SRWs when it's optional. He's just shot while going to put decals to mark his kills in his robot and a bunch of traitors are leaving the Nadesico. Whether they're super powerful already or not doesn't really matter, you can't use his death to push that message and then have the main party later defeat impossible odds with sheer grit.

That's the thing. Gai's death WASN'T a wake up call. To everyone else he was a sort of annoying guy they barely knew and while they wouldn't want to see him die they kind of just shrugged it off because they were focused on their own shit. They even sort of joke that they hope the new pilots are jerks so they don't get attached.

Sadly no, since the VFs used are not the same TV/Movie 1 Siegfrieds, but Kairos Customs. Yes, they kinda look the same, but with copyrights holders, such and such can't be the same. If were not for this detail, then it would be able to fit within a DLC scope.

No, an alternate scenario, things largely the same with slight changes that ripple up until Kamine caused by the character in Route Entangle that gets inserted into her past, which lets her learn of Lelouch's identity prior to the Kamine confrontation with Suzaku.

Lelouch and Suzaku both die there, taken out by the bomb Lelouch used. Kallen makes a deal with Cornelia, to find Nunnally. So she becomes a Knight of the Round so they can find out, since she surmises after hearing Suzaku and Lelouch's exchange that the one who told Suzaku about Geass took Nunnally. She also baasically takes up the goal Suzaku had in R2 to become Knight of One to protect Japan.

Char was unsure about what to do after Zero Requiem, and reexamines himself, dropping the Axis drop idea. Then, the New Earth Federation disbands, which renders his goals completely void and from here on he decided to just keep Neo Zeon was a militia helping maintain peace in space (since this is happening in the middle of the Wulgaru invasion).

Yeah, when Amuro meets Char initially he's suspicious about him and there's even a scene where Amuro and Bright talk about how they have to act as spies to see what's going on. But afterwards Char invites Amuro to his private quarters and Amuro realizes Char is genuine, then they pretty much drop all tension there.

When Char actually debuts as an ally later on, the cast comments on how he's piloting much better than before due to losing all the burden he had been carrying.

Latest update is that (optimistically) I have the means to freely replace text into both story dialogue and battle scenes now. That means that: barring unforeseen bugs and text in other random spots (e.g. the prologue scroll), and if you can stomach shortened lines because of character limits, there's nothing stopping me from translating the rest of the game now.

AG is just a really old game, the worst part of it is the jarring contrast in animation quality between the new stuff (Xabungle animations are really good) and the old stuff brought over from Alpha like all the UC grunts you can buy. I never change around UC gundam pilots. Is there some sort of weirdly good combination in the older games when you switch them around to something weird? I never got the point of it. (I played J, VTX, 30 and Y) Four showing up in the Super Gundam thing was neat.

You aren't missing out on much with most of the low point UC unit secrets cause there's only like four space stages in the entire game, two have fixed deployment so you can't use those extra units anyways, and having <5 points at stage 20 means you don't get to play the full ending which is also a space stage.

It's true, I've given up making text nicely fit boxes when I realized that I miscounted and battle dialogues really only have 22 characters of width compared to 23 characters in story.

For a quick status update:
- All story dialogue has been AI translated/butchered and reinjected
- All battle dialogue has been AI translated/butchered and reinjected (pending confirmation, because I keep seeing one-off unreplaced dialogue that I need to hunt down)
- I'm leaving most of the menu-translation in place from the old patch
- I don't think I can translate the place-name cards; I think those may be straight up images, and reinjecting images is something I don't want to think about for the first version I'll release
- I'm now going after miscellaneous text like save messages, unit descriptions, etc.
But honestly it's playable now (albeit severely lacking polish)

Most of the Bazaar Mobile Suits aren't stronger than even your default grunt suits except maybe the Gunblaster, there's a few ace Mobile Suits you can buy later in the game which might be worth it if you want to use them though
Walker Machines are for your Xabungle side characters if you want to keep using them in something better than the Gallops, when I play Alpha Gaiden I try to use every character equally so I always buy them but they're pretty unremarkable grunt bots
You can also sell Bazaar units back and if you fully upgrade one or more of their stats before selling them you can get some extremely good items so it can be worth it to buy a Walker Machine, use it for a bit and then sell it back to get a Mega Generator (for maxed Energy) or an A-Adapter (for any two stats)

No, model intelligence has never been the bottleneck, models even two years ago were already plenty good for translation. The bottleneck was always context.

For some context, here's what the battle dialog dump looks like. Just a giant list of one-off lines, unordered and with no idea when they're spoken or if they even happen sequentially. Some of them (like these rows) I couldn't even retrieve the speaker's name. No amount of model intelligence is going to fix this.

Man, it's kind of crazy SRW often does away with limits of abilities from the source material, but the Satellite Cannon always is left with this long charging time (even after the Double X has an episode explicitly showing that's not an issue for it, unlike the X. In SRW, this generally means just one less turn between shots) in addition to limited availability in most appearances.

Very funny. I've used gemini 2.5 and it produced errors incredibly often, let alone older models. Even the newest ones still often miss nuance.

I have about 80K lines to translate. After two passes (a first translation pass, and then a second pass to shorten those that were too long) there were still ~2K that were too long that I went in to shorten by hand.

Thinking about the Y DLC's I think sadly Da-Garn was a bad choice since it has plot but it doesn't go anywhere since it's just DLC. Jeeg was post plot and Noir come from another dimension so they work better and all the DLC1 series leads basically work for hire so it's much easier to fit them in.

Mazinger, Getter, Combattler and UC Gundam had already beaten up most if not all of their enemies prior to the start of the game. Combattler gets a sole stage devoted to the Garuda/Mia/Oreana stuff while Mazinger/Getter/UC Gundam mostly deal with random filler enemies and MP mooks to shore up the grunt count before the real plot starts.
Getter gets the one stage wonder marker because on the Science Fortress Route, you can recruit Kochoki, but really it deserves to be down there in the post plot group.
