The manga in the first arc is fairly similar to the anime, just much shorter, and so some characters plainly don't exist there (like Inova, that wolf monster).

Season 2 has some big differences though. Debonair and Nova are all anime-only. In the manga, the 2nd arc is just Magic Knights vs forces from the three countries around Cephiro. The final battle is against Eagle.

Mokona's true identity and powers also get much more spotlight in the manga, where he's basically God, having created Earth too, not just Cephiro. And he's also responsible for the entire season 2 plot.

The ending is similar though, Hikaru is the new pillar, but wishes to make the pillar system disappear. Eagle actually dies in the anime, but is saved by Hikaru in the manga, but SRW already kept him alive anyway.

In this case, it's not that I think the manga is bad, it's more that I think it's kind of a pointless remake.

Plus is good if you're playing blind and don't know which units are good or bad. It only changes player units. It's a little easy early on because the 'bad' units are endgame viable.

If you know the meta and are fine with the game being kind of a dick, vanilla's the way to go. It's a real pain in the ass to use support spirits though and you gotta deal with a ton of early runners and level locks on attacks.

Olibee in 30 is pretty bad. Purely support character, with no offensive spirits at all, that you get VERY late game even though by that point you'd have a bunch of other characters to play the same role if you wanted a support character (which isn't even really necessary in 30).

Although there are many bad secret units in the early SRWs. Like the ZII that got nerfed in Alpha Gaiden, coming from Alpha, so it's plainly worse than the Zeta (which also got boosted), and there are even worse secret suits than the Alpha Gaiden ZII.

Older games just didn't like to do event 1 vs 1, so the Gundam Fight was ignored. They also really don't like the Devil Colony for some reason. It has NEVER appeared in SRW (although there was the Devil Axis in 64). Heck, I guess they just didn't use to care about G Gundam. Even in the era where units didn't get full animation, you had no Shuffle Alliance in 2G or F/FF. Heck, even Impact also had no Shuffle Alliance.

For the modern games, T and Y would need more units to do the G Gundam plot and I guess they don't want to cut the Shuffle Alliance nowadays.
