-=READ THE GUIDES=-

Welcome to the Gunpla/Plamo General!

For those new, please read our guides. We have many resources available to help you in many different aspects of the hobby. They're here for you!

For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Be more specific, and try to provide clear images if you can.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data when images are uploaded, including the orientation tag if it's from your phone. To fix it save out your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.
One easy to use app that works well on Android:

-= ACE CUSTOM GROUPBUILD =-

Build, customize, and paint a grunt mobile suit up for use by an ace pilot.
>You are taking the role of the Ace Pilot here - You're making the design choices when it comes to loadout, paint scheme, and suit customizations.
>Think about what your Ace specializes in, is he all in on offensive power, speed and maneuverability, or bulk and defense?
>While your pilot is an ace, he's not so special that he's getting super secret prototypes like Gundams or Mobile Armors. Keep your grunt relatively grounded to whatever setting it's from.

Send your entries to gunplaplamo@gmail.com with at least 5 photos of your finished build along with any WIP photos and a description of your entry.

It's been a fun build so far, and it feels nice and sturdy, but DAMN do I wish the kit was in the TV colors by default. The contrasting black and white looks so much nicer than white with off-white. Probably gonna leave the gold bits alone though, they look cool

>>
I finally got waterbased acrylics to work, Jesus. The problem with them on airbrush arises if you overthin them. If you add more paint, they won't pool.
>>
>>23790277
Remember, the thinning ratio is just a suggestion, not a baseline. Sometimes, putting less thinner works best for one, while for others, having more thinner is better. In the end, you just gotta find what works best for you, both in thinning ratio and air pressure for spraying paint.
>>
>>23790277
If you are getting pooling you may not be moving your brush enough. Staying in one spot for too long will pool no matter what ratio you're using. Especially if you're using too much pressure and holding it in one spot. Or you could be just pulling the trigger too hard and using too much paint. Barely visible layers over and over, going from beyond the piece, through the piece and not stopping until you've cleared it on the other side.
Using a leveling thinner helps with that as well.

>>
>>23790156
While the line has some stinkers like Escaflowne or Daioja, most are solid builds.
The biggest issues these days are the often way too tight joints that need some sanding and the obscene prices that are barely justifiable anymore.
GSC definitely needs to find ways to cut them down somewhat because it's getting downright stupid by now, even when taking world events into consideration - almost 8000 yen for a fucking 13cm HG tier model is just nuts.

I hate seed with a passion, but I have to admit this kit looks pretty cool, especially with a different paint scheme. I love his vids, but I'd really like to see a longer form video of his builds/painting/process because he cuts way too much out just for the sake of snazzy pacing.

Depends on what acrylics you are using. I typically use tamiya and you can absolutely use leveling thinner with them. But they're more of an acrylic/lacquer hybrid if you really want to get technical. If you're using some actual water based paints you can try a little retarder mixed in.

would lacquer final topcoat melt through acrylic topcoat if it has cured for more than 24 hours
>>
>>23790455
Acrylic takes weeks to fully cure and the lacquer thinner can still reactivate it. If you have no other choice and can't get a half-decent acrylic top coat I would mist it on in layers to build up the lacquer and then do a final wetter coat once you're comfortable. The main thing is you don't want the solvent to linger too long.
>>
>>23790455
it can craze the acrylic if you spray it on too wet, but otherwise no it's fine. just go light on the first couple of passes

Shadow Games were already a thing in the original and the dub makes those tied to the overall metaphysics of the setting
Also getting thrown into an endless abyssal purgatory for eternity is a lot spookier than just dying outright (and fits the Egyptian mythological motifs better)

I honestly don't know why I bought H&S airbrush. It clogs the same, sprays thin lines the same, cleaning procedure is just as long (flush 5-6 times, bubble back 2-3 times, take apart, wipe needle, remove dried accumulated paint from inside of the nozzle, put together again, flush with water) only trigger is much more sensitive, put more resistance to press for air (pulling back for paint is similarly soft) and replacement parts cost 10x times more.
>>
>>23790491

>>23790501

>>23790502

>>
>>23790501
My cleaning process for lacquers is a single backflush, and if I'm not using it again anytime soon I just dump hardware store thinner in the cup and leave it

>>
>>23790501
I've never had that issue with alcohol based acrylics but had it all the time with water based ones.
>>
>>23790485

>>
>>23790485
Do you think it's an own that you have the same opinion as an 11 year old?
>>
>>23790540
It's not even nostalgia. If you want something with a more serious tone watch the Japanese version or rrad thr manga. If you want something camp watch the dub. Both are equally valid for different reasons. I actually LIKE the fact that they are different in tone.

The Yugioh GX dub is where 4Kids becomes too self aware and things go off the rails, but Chazz It Up is genuinely funny.

Vallejo cleaner solution, unlike Tamiya one is not actual cement but indeed loose the paint. But mostly do it with water because this thing isn't exactly cheap. Yet, there are always some leftovers at the bottom of the cup, it drives me nuts. H&S videos have guy just flushing two times with cleaner and voila.

>>23790620
not nearly enough, groupbuild extension inflation is crazy
>>
>>23790597
I didn't like Vallejo's cleaner, I found it to be ineffective compared to Iwata's. My process is to flush excess paint out with water and dump it out, and then backflush with cleaner 1-2 times dumping it out each time while also flushing it out with water. Then I'll add cleaner one more time and spray it through.
You can use a paintbrush to help agitate and break up and paint in the cup but you want to make sure you don't try to spray any of those bits through as you'll run the risk of clogging up the nozzle.

Just look for the 30MS parts you like for your suletta. They're all compatible.
>>
>>23790899
Oh... I wanted the ideal parts recommended by my anons, since I don't know how 30MS compatibility works... but I'll do my best!
>>
>>23790900
All the parts are compatible with each other. You're gonna want to get any skin parts in color C since it'll match her skin tone. The line is intended to be mixed and matched and the figure rise girls are all compatible too. You can actually just buy body kits for use with other heads so that's probably what you're gonna wanna look for. The swimsuit parts are very easy to find.

>$400 koto kit
It's 80 bucks
>>
About to start the RG Zeta, what parts am I gonna glue down if I want to keep it in MS mode?
>>
>>23790894
Why not both? Buy it and slap Suletta's head on the body, the size is roughly the same afterall.

Fully compatible decals, skin tone and scale, too. You can transplant Suletta's decals to Ame Uzume's blank face to create a slutty and bigger version of herself.
>>
i respect suletta more that amuro

I dropped G-Witch so I don't even know if she is respectable or not.
>>
You can also make a slutty Miorine using MD Susan lol
>>
>>23790942
Miorine is flat though
>>
>>23790932
That's not that strange, most girlpla kits have similar proportions and are quite compatible with minimal or no extra work, even from different companies.

Got this old chaos gundam 1/100 to play with some paint on. I really like the alclad aqua gloss.
It makes me want more old 1/100 kits.

>my enamel thinner can't clean up the sludge wash that I did thoroughly
>leaves behind excess paint ad takes way too many passes to get rid of it
>switch back to turpentine thinner and suddenly the wash gets wiped off clean
I should get more of this thing to be honest, though only downside to this is that it takes hours to completely evaporate on it's own
>>
>>23791046
I use mineral spirits to clean up shit myself. Works great.
>>
>>23791048
I really do wonder if that's even more effective. I do recall seeing some armor modelers use that for pin washes instead of the conventional enamel thinner.
>>

Lighter fluid works really well and is the least "harsh" out of those I feel.
>>
Does lighter fluid erase either acrylic and lacquer? I don't want to double coat.
>>
>>23791086
Literally called " Koi Body ", it is a 3rd party part made for Megami Device. The girl is Ame no Uzume.
>>
>>23791099
I haven't tried acrylic but I use lacquer as my base coats with enamel paint being small details or for panel lining and light fluid is the most mild and effect way of cleaning up enamel, not doing a thing to the lacquer coat.
>>
>>23791090
I think mineral spirits are less harsh than lighter fluid, but either works well and is gentle enough to not be an issue unless you are dunking shit and letting it sit.
>>
>>23791099
No. It only affects enamels.
>>
I bought my first gundam thats actually for me and not a gift for someone else. The Dragon Gundam from G. Though I plan on getting a 30MF or a cheap whatever grade kit to start on so I dont make any critical mistakes, and save Muh Dude for later. Good thing too, I saw that it went out of stock earlier today.
>>
The group build entry is submitted - no more extensions.
>>
>>23791099
Not unless you let it sit on acrylic paint for an extended time and/or scrub too hard with a q-tip. A q-tip damp but not soaked with either lighter fluid or enamel thinner and a few quick light swipes should be enough to remove excess liner unless you poured the bottle over your kit. Being a little precise when lining saves a lot of time during cleanup. Lacquer paints shouldn't even be a concern with lighter fluid or enamel thinner.
