-=READ THE GUIDES=-

Welcome to the Gunpla/Plamo General!

For those new, please read our guides. We have many resources available to help you in many different aspects of the hobby. They're here for you!

For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Be more specific, and try to provide clear images if you can.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data when images are uploaded, including the orientation tag if it's from your phone. To fix it save out your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.
One easy to use app that works well on Android:

Build a kit featuring any brand of Girlpla, including but not limited to:
>Frame Arms Girl
>Megami Device
>30 Minute Sisters/Missions/Etc.
>Figure-Rise Standard
>Megalomaria
Additionally, any "Feminine" mechs like the Nobel Gundam or Valsione are fair game as well. What you do with your build in terms of theming is up to you so long as your base is "Feminine".

Send a description along with both WIP and Finished images of your build to gunplaplamo@gmail.com

Why is Bandai not making Kaijupla? They Basically own Ultraman now anyway yet the only thing they did was SMP King Joe
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_MN1CDqbWY
>>
>>23831179
Not every Ultra Kaiju have skeletal structures. They could make those up like what they did with Godzilla (though Toho did show off GZ's skeletal structure at one point), but it might feel off if people are into the bifurcation play that is the golden standard of Ultraman anyway. I mean, take stuff like Bemstar or Alien Baltan for example. They were diced in their debut series.
>>
>>23831179
>he doesn't know.

Tokusatsu is in a steep decline, even in the jp market, and sales are horrendous. Given that the super sentai series was discontinued for this exact reason, I doubt Bandai wants to take that risk.
>>
>>23831190
The RV Robo kit at least would still sell like hotcakes outside of JP because Carranger is popular everywhere but Jpana

I'm tired of those global trade wars. Especially annoying when dealing with goods that are NOT produced locally. Go ahead and explain how extra 5€ per package with Japanese plastic model kits will protect "local producers" that do not exist and even scale models like tanks or planes are outsourced to China.

They are listening and answering to what people complain about. And you have tons of local "middlemen" who loudly cry about "cheap Chinese packages" (because people realised they can get the same fucking thing but directly from Chang instead of paying extra for local guy who import same thing anyway) and ecologists crying about "flooding market with cheap, one-use clothes" (which is odd since, aside from kids who are known to literally murder stuff they wear and still grow out of them quickly, people generally wear clothes until they are no longer usable) so they had to answer that. Nobody will listen to some small group of nerds that import plastic robots.

Really like the off-white green they chose. It looks plenty white when away from other kits, but put it next to a normal Gundam makes it pop in a good way.
Also I've been building lots of Late UC MGs recently, so he feels absolutely huge. Still it seems like despite the size, because of the transformation he still can't rotate the waist at all like the Victories. Never understood why they couldn't mount the cradle for the core fighter on like a swiveling plate. I was planning on it just standing there on my UC shelf, so not much of a loss.
>>
>>23832181
Are the Guren and Lancelot near 1/100 Gunpla size? Those prices seem really high (higher than the Macross kits)
>>
I really want a SDF-1 Macross but Im choosing between this hasegawa kit or an already painted one like the chink lego from amazon. I cant paint for shit I already snapped 28 MGs tho. Is the hasegawa at least painted in the blue and grey parts?

hasegawa kits arent painted at all, theyre completely bare plastic like 99% of all model kits

Probably something to do with the transformation and variety of combinations the ZZ is designed to do. It reminds me of a rubik's cube
>>
Just finished this, it was my first girlpla and non bandai kit, I'm honestly extremely impressed
Almost entire kit was undergated, strong plastic (if anything a tad stiff), honestly it was a very lengthly and smooth building experience
Was not expecting at all for the kit to come with parts to make the girl both in and out of her wolf armor, which is fucking awesome. This feels premium as fuck for $60, and comes with a plethora of accessories and option parts, some of which completely alter the look of this thing
I will be buying more of these
I also did infact fuck up more than a few of my waterslides, I'll probably go back and fix them later. I pulled an all nighter building this shit and by the end I could barely articulate my hands.

>>
>>23832333
Only problem I had with parts fitting together were a few parts with small connecting bits that could've used a little glue (which I did) to hold them down, basically just on some small armor pieces or bits on the tail. Nub marks were annoying and definitely added some length to the build but once those were taken care of everything fit together really snug. I can pose both figures without having to be too delicate, they aren't hand grenades that's for sure

>>
>>23832342
>worried about parts being too tight since I paint all my stuff.
These two has nothing to do with each other. You avoid painting pegs and balljoints, simple as.
>>
>>23832345
Most of the time you don't need to worry about it and often times it gives me a feel I prefer. It's only really ever a problem on girlpla since the connectors are more fragile and the parts often fit together tighter. If it was the case that the parts were generally tight I'd be more mindful.
>>
>>23832349
Masking tape them if you don't want to risk breaking the parts due to disassembly. This is a much more favourable method for complex girlpla like Megami Device. Part by part painting is just a time waster for anything beyond HG complexity.
>>
>>23832327
Fair enough, I only glanced at the transformation that was several pages long and warned "Do only with ZZ Gundam".
>>
>>23832358
That's why I asked if they fit together tightly before getting one you doofus
>>
>>23832360
What i'm saying is that the part tightness shouldn't affect your painting process or the fitment afterward if you find a way to work around it. Military kits don't even allow you to disassemble because you have to glue most of the core parts before painting.

>Not that anon, but for brushing, wouldn't it be better to go with enamel paints?
Enamels give you a better result for gunpla. Acrylics are great for fine details and layers, but you don't really do any of that for gunpla.
Downside of enamels is that each layers takes literal days to dry, whereas acrylics are fully dry to the touch within 20-30 seconds.

I have built 9 or 10 ATK girls plus some of the Iron Man kits from the same guys. Their earlier ones like the phoenix were a little iffy as far as the design of the face plates' tampo printing and they sometimes have questionable engineering on the joints that make them a bit tricky. But yeah they are a steal for the price, even the older ones, especially if you can get them for that cheap. Retail around here is more like $75-80 for instance.
I like the Nuke Matrix Cyber Forest girls even more (a bit smoother plastic and I just like more of the characters personally) so try those as well. Some of them are a bit simpler and some are very complex (the mermaid had like 600 pieces and multiple transformations/optional variants). Some of them can combine with other kits as well like Harpy with Siren.
Standard heads up for all girlpla especially stuff more than say 4 years old: tight joints are a famous problem so baby them and sand them down and flatten off the balls of ball joints. You want to hit them just enough to let the joints move freely without snapping the fucker off in the hole. Not really an issue in recentish girls but I'll grab an older one and forget and be unpleasantly surprised on occasion. Watch neck and shoulders epecially.
My favorite girlpla are Dark Advent (even without the lewd parts, Saitom is a favorite) and Arcanadea. Arcanadea would be my favorite line of model kits if it were not for how much they rely on mold gold and how often they are missing colors despite their cost and parts count. Still one of the best though.

Ladies and gentlemen, Japanese modelers are vocal and unhappy about Gavv amazing gummy SHF's color scheme being different from example. Seems that Bandai lost their mind after Bionicle's fall.
Is it sure that this blue bandai is same as Bandai which destroyed Mata Nui?

Unlike Bandai, Lego never fucks up QC, never does the fraud like making actual product different from sample, never make scalpers happy, and cares about consumers first, and never decieves the consumer. Lego's QC is so wonderful due to superior Western technology. Bandai was a Makuta in bionicle.

>>
>>23832637
Bro tip: always just look at what the Japs call "setting material" in other words how does it look on screen? Look at the show or the design sheets. Sure you might want yours to be different but you should check what it's "supposed to" look like. For cleaning up panel liner, usually lighter fluid is fine. You can use thinner if it's bare plastic under. I don't know what oil-based panel liner you had but if you bought it, then the maker will tell you what to use (probably will just wipe off really). If you did it yourself, out of oil paints in a tube, then it will also just wipe off unless it's had days to cure. I'd try that first then lighter fluid.

Warhammer minis are, well, mini, and usually very heavily detailed with lots of round surfaces. You can't really use tape on that stuff, so putty is the #1 recommendation. You can use blu tack too, or even dedicated brands of masking putty, though the only real difference with them is that they're less "tacky" so they come out in nicer chunks and dont leave residue.
There's also masking fluid, I've never used it but I've heard good things

It's ok if you want to airbrush it, but the use case for enamel for plamo is usually more specialized. It's sort of the old school way to paint something like a whole car chassis. But you know all this because you read the guide in the OP, right? The tldr is that you have a lot of better options for painting large open areas than enamel. If you are going to paint something like the armor on a Gundam, there is not much reason to use enamel unless you just happen to have nothing else. I've used fingernail polish for it but only as a goof. The best tool for the job is lacquer but that has its downsides (as you learned when you read the OP guides).

If I was going to drop $500, this is what I'd get, and be set for life. They have some cheaper ones and run good sales on occasion too. I spray outdoors when I can but that's not often with the weather here. Otherwise I have the usual Chineseum spraybooth, which works ok enough. Don't worry about paints, they are cheap and you will be buying them for the rest of your modelling life. Having a reliable spray setup that isn't a hassle to use means you'll actually paint and get shit done instead of putting it off or growing to hate it.
Depending on what needle you have, another thing to consider down the road is a simple, larger handpiece like the Procon Boy with a 4 or 5, single action, for primer and top coats. Not necessary but a luxury I would never go without now that I've used it for years. You can get them for $50-100 burgers and they make applying big smooth coats much easier and the cleanup simpler. I have airbrushed since I was 12 and own probably a dozen of the fuckers and these days, for model kits, it's the single action Procon for almost everything. You will want a finer needle and double action for some stuff even with gunpla maybe but my point is, any reliable airbrush is fine, it's the other shit that matters.

No he's right. There is objectively a very observable pattern of people (always snapshitters) who post pics with the Godhands very carefully posed into the pic in a conspicuous way. It's like how some mid artists post pencils laying on the paper, as if to show that they really drew with a pencil. That's been a thing for 20 years now.
Real men use these nippers btw. Pros know that the cuter the nippers, the better the build.

>>
>>23833304
Nope it's absolutely not. Midwit take. It's exclusively to performatively posture as a "traditional artist" and fake some authenticity. Never ever remotely related to anything else. The redditard Godhands shit is similar but has a different motive, closer to what other anon pointed out about iPhonefags and Teslafags., being "part of the in-group". Also performative and cringe.

>>23833305
The came with the Megumin DX set from Plamatea. You can probably still get it. They're solid, standard double bladed nippers. I don't actually use them because I have other ones I prefer but they're nice. I have a lot of weird nippers and am mad that I missed the Eva ones. ;__;

>>23833294
>Was it you who posted about Lascivous clear red the other day?
Yep. It looks much more subtle over flesh than expected. I thought it'd make her skin bright red but it's barely noticeable.
>>
>>23833364
So yeah the basic idea is you have White Peach or whatever and use the red (and the orange) as shading selectively to match the look of something like a nice scale figure. You can mix and match of course. Once it dries you can always go back again and add some more shading but you're going to find that less is more. I come from portrait paining and other smaller scale models (like wargames figures) so when I started doing GKs I tried to shade too heavily. The exaggeration to make something read at small scale is not what you want when you get to a larger figure like a 1/10 or 1/7 or whatever. So the subtle look of the clear red is a feature not a bug. I have a helpful image ref as well, lemme look for it. o7
>>
>>23833110
I applied another layer of topcoat on the Gm's parts I'm painting. I'm changing the red parts to black and I'm gonna make the mint-green parts white. I'm just waiting on the white paint and masking tape to be delivered to my place
>>
File: pitsperopero.jpg (165 KB, 747x1000)
165 KB JPG
Well I lost the image but basically you want both the clear red and the clear orange, and you use orange for shading generally. Then you use the red specifically on knees, elbows, toes and fingers and ears. It will come out shiny as clear paints are wont to do, but you're satin coating the skin at the end anyway right?
Here is an example where I used a clear red over White Peach and went too hard. It's not bad but it would have been prettier if I'd gone like...halfway as far as I did.

Just not as tight as recent year(2024-2025) HGs. Sculpt is good. Some articulation lacking but that's the nature of its design. I also have Penelope but haven't built it yet. I heard that Xi Gundam is leagues ahead of Penelope in terms of build quality due to the COVID year gap.

I am pondering whether to continue collecting this line based on the Gustav Karl's build quality. Obviously, Alyzeus and Messer M01 will be today's standard.

Pros
>Fun build
>Perfect color separation
>Really good articulation
>All-around solid despite the transformation
>Transformation really isn't that bad (imo) and holds together well
>Relatively light on the greebles, even captures some anime accurate details that other zetas lack (like rounded elbow joints and the big monkey hands)
Cons
>Hip construction, while generally solid, does like to split a little when posing
>Side skirts have a really annoying connection that loves to pop off
>Wing binders are on little rails that are uncomfortably thin
>Waverider mode has more bare inner-frame than some people prefer
>No hyper mega launcher
>no gret zeta ver

Overall it's a really solid kit and very good MG, if you like the zeta you'll probably love it

Just finished building the Angry Shinn/Bird Impulse. Is it better not to topcoat this? It is copied from the MRD after all and I'm not familiar what's the norm on that line. The textures on this certainly looks different from normal gunpla

That's just the usual experience when visiting hobby shops. You always stare at the boxes for awhile to see what's to buy.

I was thinking of making a table using plamo box tops. You get the wood top and carve out a recess like 1cm deep, arrange your pictures, then pour epoxy so they're sealed in. Maybe even take apart a Zaku or something and put the parts in there like an exploded schematic.

How about gold? Or maybe a gloss black with matte black bits and super sparing Char's red peppered in. Think: you are Quattro Bajeena and this is yours now. How do you operate? How do you make it look? Do you go for stealthy function or do you go for psychological impact or indulge in personal taste?

>>
>>23833987
Black with red bits here and there would be cool. I saw one re-paint that was in Char's classic "Red Comet" color scheme too, so going with red to replace the gold parts could work— like if it got re-painted after Quattro revealed himself to the federation in his speech in Zeta, so he has no reason to hide that he's *the* red comet
