-=READ THE GUIDES=-

Welcome to the Gunpla/Plamo General!

For those new, please read our guides. We have many resources available to help you in many different aspects of the hobby. They're here for you!

For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Be more specific, and try to provide clear images if you can.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data when images are uploaded, including the orientation tag if it's from your phone. To fix it save out your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.
One easy to use app that works well on Android:

It's been over 10 years, has science ever figured out what's up with the MG Gundam X's butthole? It opens up thusly but nothing on the kit can plug in there or anything. DX has a similar one but it has a round peg for mounting the old G-Falcon kit, there's nothing here. If it was in preparation for GX Divider and letting it carry the beam rifle there they could have let GX attack its beam rifle here too. So that seems unlikely.
What's up with this then?

nope, that bit doesn't move at all. It's the hinge the entire rear skirt is clipped to. Very strange. This circled part looks like something can plug in there but nothing on the kit does. Manual has nothing too.
>>
>>23871608
Maybe it's just a gimmick from the cartoon? Like the alternative entrance or something

Oh koto is reprinting the white glint. Won't miss it this time.
>>
>>23871602
My bet is storage for the bazooka for the Divider, but they still haven't made a Divider kit. Might've also been something they considered to pull double duty somehow for G-Falcon compatibility too but my bet's on the hyper bazooka.
>>
Changing topic, what weapons do you like more between the two versions of the HG Atlas, the ones from the manga version or the Bandit Flower version? Honestly, I want to mix both, with the manga Blade Shield and the OVA railgun. And besides, the rest of the MS is completely identical.
>>
>>23871620

>>23871867
It's a really fun build. The frame is mostly unchanged since it's still a zaku but the armor is totally different. it's a bit of a slog once you have to start mass producing bazookas and zaku machine guns though.

>>23871889
I do it in parts. I do the chest, waist, and head together, paint the parts and assemble them. Then I do the arms together, then the legs, then the backpack and accessories. It's easier to avoid burnout if you break up the pieces and do them one by one. I usually work for 8-10 hours a day when I do anything so avoiding burnout is crucial.

What primer for musou black? Would it make details very hard to see?
>>
>>23872317
Any primer is fine. The issue you're going to have is that musou black itself is super delicate, and very finish dependent (if not completely finish dependent). So it's got to be the last thing you put on, even after the top coat. and then afterwards, any touching it will cause those areas to sort of flatten out and become more satiny.
This isn't really an issue with the primer adhesion, it's just a function of the way musou black works in the first place.
>>
>>23871586
That is a sexy V2.

Finished the turn X. Absolutely insane this thing got a kit. The actual engineering is super basic.
My goal was to make it look kinda rough and organic I presume its armor is the same as the turn A and its armor is chitinous. I didn't want to go with a gloss coat since it's not shiny in the show so I think I found a good solution.
I am also incredibly happy with the color I mixed for the armor.
I could have totally done this in a day if I had applied myself.

Is a scriber a must-have tool is it just one of those optional trinkets?
>>
>>23872531
It's a must have if you want to do scribing.
If not... it still can come in handy but isn't necessary.
>>
>>23872531
If you think you want to do custom panel lines and such, yeah. Some models have shallow panel lines and going over them with a scriber can make them look much nicer (and permit panel liner to flow through them better).
>>
>>23872531
Optional, you can deepen shallow lines with a regular hoby knife. You only really want a scriber if you're serious about learning actual scribing of new lines and such.
>>
>>23872531
Are you looking to scribe lines? Then yes, you need one. Are you not? Then no you don't need one.
>>
>>23872531
Optional. There's no reason to use one if you're happy with the panel lines on the stuff you do.

Thank you to the anon last thread who suggested panel line markers and sandpaper for my first build. I grabbed some sanding sticks and a gundam marker and went to town. Some of the nub marks I couldn't seem to get rid of despite sanding them flush to the rest of the plastic (I'm guessing due to plastic stress from when I removed them from the runner). Using the marker was pretty fun. However, I think its a little too thick for certain areas, so maybe I could try the liquid type for the next build. Overall I'm pretty happy with where its at besides the messy lines on the forearms.

No they are not lol. 30MM ACs are super beginner friendly, you don't need to glue anything, the plastic is easy to paint, no warp, no flash, near perfection snapfit. Whatever the sanding and color correcting you have to do is just basic modeling. As the brand implies, it is 30 minutes assembly and meant for beginners.

I have been in this hobby for a decade, and I figured out that I get the dopamine from buying the kit, so I just buy them online, use the controlled delivery option and ignoring the delivery man when he gets here.
Its crazy, specially with shit like rare and expensive kits. I scroll for hours on my phone, looking for a good deal, searching for shit I would want, buying it, and just never receiving the package so it gets refunded completely and the seller loses money from shipping, possibly damaging the product in the process.
It feels so good, I can't believe I solved my gunpla addiction.

File: moderoid SMP.jpg (912 KB, 4032x3024)
912 KB JPG
>>23873648
It's good, though I find the SMP to be better.

The SMP looks more anime-accurate both in proportion and its transformation, and pretty much looks almost identical to the DX. It's also much bigger.
Meanwhile the Moderoid looks more stylized, but it has more partsforming. Like, you have to remove Dyna Soldier's arms completely while transforming it. Notice the lack of its claws sticking out on Dynazenon's shoulders.

Also, the Moderoid is the only one that can transform into Rouge Kaiser Gridman since Bandai didn't make it for the SMP, so there's that.
>>
>>23873729
it probably does, since it's one of the earlier ver Ka kits, but boy does it look really good
>>
>>23873729
As long as you never transform it and limit the types of movements that could break its elbow joints, you're going to be fine. But there are loads of places that will need stickers and/or paint, and you'll have to buy waterslides since it mostly uses stickers and dry rubs (though I do like dry rubs).
>>
>>23873747
I don't normally decal anything if I can help it so it'll be fine. I'm painting it so stickers are no problem.
>>
>>23873729
depends who you've listened to and what you're expecting
the major takeaway that I don't think can be avoided is that the legs suck, maybe they're alright freshly built but the transformation sequence and the way it works makes the knees really stupid
You also just generally can't grab it anywhere without holding some part that either moves or is a wing flap of the corefighter or whatever. Oh no I picked it up and I have to reposition all elements of the shoulder armour, or in my particular case, oh no I picked it up and the back skirt armour closed AGAIN. Not a big deal but basically everything is just a little fiddly. When it's in full MS form it's also just, you know, a Gundam. I love the V and V2, but V especially is very basic and sturdy looking but the model is an intricate nightmare in actuality where moving any part is asking for something else on it to also move and probably in a way you didn't want to
It's just "mildly annoying" over and over and over again rather than "this is complete dogshit and never should have been made." It's impressive at least. More impressive before RGs existed however.
>>
>>23873756
At what point did RGs stop sucking? People say the unicorns but, really?
>>
>>23873766
The Mk II is great but people generally say everything from the Tallgeese on is good enough
>>
>>23873766
>RGs stop sucking
well since this is in context of the Victory MG and it not being complete dogshit I'm going to also keep to my principles and say "forever" because early RGs are fine for a lot of purposes as long as that purpose isn't painting their frames
I've built most of the early RGs when they came out and they're all fine, I'd still readily recommend the Mark II to just about anyone who thinks it looks cool. It's a sturdy kit with no real problems until it comes to full painting.
They more or less abandoned the prebuilt frames with the Sazabi and Crossbone X-1, everything from them on is the era of modern RGs if you were to so divide it. The Tallgeese is usually considered pretty good too though but I don't have it and it still uses largely prebuilt frames so I dunno really. But anyways, the Sazabi is pretty much the turning point if you go by release date.
>>
>>23873756
I've noticed so far that it's incredibly color inaccurate. The colors are really oversaturated

it lacks the detail/part separation/seam hiding of modern MGs but it's one of the oldest MGs that's still a pretty damn good model, held back mostly by really bad hands. All the ground gundam kits are sturdy and well built though and I'd recommend them to anyone who isn't deathly afraid of using a screwdriver.

>>
>>23873778
I'd say that the RG Tallgeese is where RG started getting good. The full armor Unicorn that came after doesn't count as it's based on an older frame.
While the Tallgeese uses some prebuilt parts, it's used sparingly in the knees and elbows which are mostly simple hinges. They're pretty tight and since they're on areas that don't need to support a lot of weight, they don't get floppy.
>>
>>23873827
ah I was the guy who wanted to use the stedi water-based.
>>
>>23873829
Actually they're also used around the ankles too which is still tight and pretty stable too.
>>
On one hand, it's funny how people piss themselves at the thought of doing any post-processing whatsoever on a snapped kit, but on the other hand, it's downright comical how people try to act superior over patronizing companies with such shit quality that tard-wrangling their kits into a passable form is an art in itself and even go as far as to defend companies charging 2026 prices for 1970 kits.
I saw a guy posting a photo of a $2500 Warlord Titan with a kettle in the frame that he said was for boiling water to bend parts back into shape and the sheer absurdity still lives rent-free in my head to this day.
At this point, all other model companies exist at the mercy or whims of Bandai.

Picked up a compass cutter that can just barely cut at the right size for them at minimum size.
>>

Gunpla and adjacent products are nerd hobbies that are infested with people that tend to be elitists that require some form of validation over the most inconsequential things to feed their egos. It's funny to me how you don't see this much kind of behavior for OG model kit makers such as for cars and boats that are 10x more skilled than your average gunpla modelers. Why are chinks incapable of making a mech with huge backpack and HUGE GUN like Wing Gundam? They almost always just do big backpacks but pathetically small rifles or no guns at all and put bazillion blades onto a single mech. It's like Strike Freedom is ingrained in their minds.
>>
>>23873919
TV wing's gun isn't that big in the scheme of things at this point and its backpack/wings weren't ever really that big either
TV Zero's gun is also smaller than almost every model actually portrays it as, in animation it pretty much is just strike freedom's guns but side by side instead of assfucking one another to combine
>>
>>23873801
It pisses me off how Bandai and now defunct Club-B had more balls than modern Bandai and released a lot of kits, regardless of popularity and all those conversion kits. It's like they actually catered to model builders and weren't after the funko pop crowd
>>
>>23873848
>Uhhh I have the figma for Gridman, I don't know if that's going to help though
No, Rogue Kaiser Gridman is a separate release. You need to either get the Moderoid Gridman Universe Fighter & Big Goldburn set alongside a Dynazenon kit or get the full release of it that includes both kits.

The purpose of the shows is largely to sell the toys, so all you really accomplished is skipping one step. That being said, it is good for your mental health to be able to separate the mecha designs from the shows, because they aren't always done by the same person. It's not Okawara's fault that Morosawa couldn't write her way out of a paper bag, and Gyobu shouldn't shoulder the blame for Okada's personal dramas.

That and they do sell the blue one separately, idk if I'd double dip though. I also hate the fucking Earth Federation so I'm really unsure about a blue zaku when the humble zaku mariner exists. >buying bandai or koto gets you a fully engineered kit that's great to build and display
Don't we spend every thread arguing about how shitty every other bandai kit is to build with issues holding weapons, etc?
>>
>>23874394
I would rather argue about that then someone posting some chinesium shit
>>
>>23874377

What humidity is good for top coat again?

I finished decal so I need to do my basic topcoat for panel lining before my final top coat. It's 55% humidity right now and it's going to be raining all week so I don't know what to do.

Can I just crank the AC up and it let it dry out and then spray inside? Fuck 55% so what percent should I be aiming for?

Hello guys

What humidity should I be aiming for in top coating, and is there a way to cheat with turning the AC/dehum on?
>>
>>23874503
My airbrush doesn't seem to care about humidity Also I've had cans work fine at like 65%
