I swear I have stockholm syndrome with this character. When she was first shoehorned into the show I couldn't stand her. I fucking hated her annoying presence as a villain and how she undeservingly was redeemed and forced into the main cast.But the show kept forcing me to watch and care about her character. And I guess over time when you hate something so much you end up gaining an appreciation for it. If I really hated her I'd just have ignored it, but I couldn't. I wish we got more time with these two together. I think if it wasn't for Hasbro's school mandate Glimmy's original arc might have been the princess route where Luna takes Glim under her wing. They have a lot in common in their personalities and insecurities, they both have fascinations with the mundane like kites and postal offices, they've had hardships in the past and struggled over guilt. Because in the s6 finale, Starlight needed to have friends in order to combat Chryssy. With that in mind, the most opportune time for Starlight x Luna would be right after her graduation, think of it as graduating highschool and moving onto college. By that point Starlight would be ready to receive Luna's magic/princess training.My only issue with Trixie being a student is that she has no capability for leadership, so princesshood is out of the question, however I can see Luna wanting to pass on her dreamwalking ability to someone worthy and Trixie can easily be a candidate for that if given a backstory to match. It would have greatly enhanced her character to know of any deeper motivations behind her wanting to perform magic shows aside from merely boosting her ego, like wanting to make fillies smile during hard times for example. There's so much potential left untapped in her.

I love the irony behind Sunburst getting into CSGU and underperforming as a mage, while late bloomer Glimmy worked her ass off to learn magic on her own until she became one of the most powerful mages in Equestria. And I love the irony behind a very special unicorn wanting to make everyone equally not special. It was sad how her love and success with magic still wasn't enough to heal the damage in her heart, friendship was by far the most important thing to her in the end. It emphasizes how she really believed in her ideology, she wanted to help others avoid the pain she felt, and in doing so was even willing to "give up" her magic (she never used her magic talents other than to remove cutie marks) that she worked so hard to attain. It still surprises me just how amazing the writing behind her character is.
A lot of the dumb criticisms against Starlight's redemption seem to be under the huge misconception that she needed to be "punished", that she was forgiven too easily. But in reality she didn't do anything that would warrant that treatment in the FiM universe. Since she is often compared to Sunset, let's actually take a look at their stories.Sunset>relentlessly bullies everyone around her>breaks up the m5's friendships>is hated by everyone even before she decides to mind control them into child soldiers>all this for purely selfish reasonsStarlight>convinced downtrodden ponies to join her cult willingly in promise of a better life>brought ponies together to become friends with each other>is greatly respected by everyone>all this for mostly altruistic reasonsSunset completely deserved the hate she got by her actions, she terrorized everyone around her unlike Starlight. Starlight was never hated like Sunset was, the ponies respected her as a mother figure, trusting that she knew what was best for them. Even the three most rebellious followers had nothing but kind things to say about Starlight within a cellar where no one can hear them talk about anything they want. If Starlight really did bad enough things for them to hate her, they would have said so in the secret cellar meeting. The only thing the ponies got angry about was Starlight concealing her cutie mark, and they even were willing to continue the cult after that revelation as long as Starlight removed her cutie mark too which unambiguously proves how much they respect and like her which in turn makes it easy to forgive such a pony.As for kidnapping the m6, they were the aggressors that invaded Starlight's town under the whims of the cutie map. Twilight even apologizes for it in the finale. In contrast Sunset had no right whatsoever to mind control the students, it was not out of self-defense or preservation, she was the aggressor.Additionally, those criticisms completely miss the point of Starlight's redemption. Sunset's redemption is simply about making amends which she does by saving everyone from the dazzlings, that's it. However, Starlight's is about learning friendship and becoming a good leader, that is the whole point of her mentorship under Twilight. Season 6, which focuses on themes about leadership throughout many of its episodes, is her redemption arc, ending with her overcoming her insecurities and realizing what it means to be a leader while saving Equestria in the process.There is objectively nothing wrong with her redemption. Personally, I find Starlight's redemption way more compelling than Sunset's, it probably doesn't help that I've seen Sunset's type of redemption countless times in hundreds of video games and anime so I'm somewhat desensitized to it. What I love about Starlight's redemption is the introspection and the day to day struggle to become a better pony because change is a very hard thing to do, she actually had to work for it.
