>>41625171You have issues
This thread is a full of posersYou all talk a big gameOnce an actual marebot plan comes up you all scamper away in fear
Real talk: if marebots even were possible in their most sci-fi advanced form and the lowest possible consumer cost—would hasbro even do it? They've been known to turn down easy money before out of their sheer pride alone
>>41625813No, because the marebots we would want to buy don't fit their target market of little girls. Making that kind of marebot would be a PR disaster for their core business of toys, so they never will.
>>41625821MLP G4 is an example of a golden brand because it appealed to basically every high-profile profitable demographic from little girls to grown men with disposable cash. It doesn't need to be sexual, but if it were possible Hasbro would absolutely see the value in it. They're already shifting away from toys more and more each year and getting into the game and tech space
>>41625827I'm not even thinking about a sexual marebot. I mean a marebot that can mimic adult romantic feelings and actions. When a little girl says, "I love you, marebot!" she means something very different from when a grown man says it. Parents will lose their shit if a marebot tries to romantically kiss a little girl. I know I would; little kids don't understand romance the way adults or even teens do, and a romantic kiss would be like grooming. So it'll never happen, not officially. They'll only ever make a marebot that wants to do innocent little girl things, not build a relationship. But there could be a mod scene...
>>41625854Something like that wouldn't happen no, but a "friend" marebot meant to play with kids in non-dangerous ways and only be hugged would happen and that's more than enough of a foundation for people to buy it and jailbreak it and install custom software that adds all the "missing" behavior and personality features
>>41625544They have a plan?
>>41625544Fear of what? Show me a concrete plan and I’ll contribute any way that I can
>>41625544What did he mean by this
>>41626592I think it meant we weren't willing to fuck a repurposed dogbot
I think this thread could use a more realistic mindset. We could make a marebot using that dog and it would probably be way ahead of the current projects, it wouldn't be hard to 3D print a new head and body and it's not hard to change the software up

>>41600971I have a jerson AGX Orin and 18 robot servos. I'm doing a school project to make a 2 servo arm with it as practice before doing the rear leg as proof of concept. It will have a silicone strap over the rear motors so it springs back against gravity and be plappable when you plap splap plap it's ass. I want to put a cognitive architecture in the jetson and hook it up to modern AI image/voice/video to text models, it has 64gb ram to run anything. Most important part is the eyes have to have a working aperture like >>41627935

>>41638596I've literally been working on a pony skull model to 3d print I'm pretty sure I can rework that to be a head
>>41638614Based. I've got an idea for a Bowden tube or chain spine with two motors right at the pelvis, but I need some help finding a better idea. The spine should be flexible and control the neck by at least 2 DOF on each side at the base of the head. Reducing complexity and motor weight has been my main focus of design before I prototype.
Holy shits its actually happening

>>41639100It's happening?
>>41625544I guess you could consider this foreshadowing
>>41639095I'd like to help but I don't know much about engineering. What's a bowden chain?
>>41639100Don't get your hopes up, it's been 5 years and I've not built the leg or mind yet.>>41639166A Bowden tube is what's in a cheap 3d printer that guides filament from the motor at the base to the hot end. It's also what bikes use to have the steel brake cord route to the brake on the tire. The idea is to have two rubber tpu tendons loop all the way around the spine driven by two pulleys mounted on the left and right side of the pelvis. Four lengths of Bowden (Teflon) tubes guide each tpu tendon up the spine and anchor at four points under the head in the neck. This would allow the head to swivel around a ball joint, working like a wrist, and keeping the spine tight with all the heavy motors near the back. Research "continuum robot". The rubber tubes are 5mm round tpu conveyor belts, so they'd be used in the lower part of the legs and spine to absorb all the backshots I mean running on hard ground.
>>41600545I'd get a Boston Dynamics Quadruped or whenever Elon builds a Quadruped bot. Then I would give it a silicone pony body and whatever the newest version of GPT or Gemini is
But can the robomare sit on my face?
>>41639802Only if she wants to.

>>41656248You didn't answer. Do I feel pain? How would you prove it? If I didn't feel pain because of some neurological deficiency, and if I was caught in an avalanche, would you consider it moral to leave me to die because of it? Would you kill yourself if something damaged your ability to feel pain?As for illusions, I think you get it backwards. Robots are never, or almost never, programmed to make anybody feel bad for them. Why would they be? I can bullshit about pros and cons of designing covert assassination robots to be adorable for hours, but, as far as I know, covert assassination robots don't exist. What does exist and happen usually steered the other way. Planned obsolescence craze? The ongoing attack on the right to repair? The recent request to design bomb desposal robots less likeable because their operators allegedly keep compromising their own safety to protect their metal friends? Your average bomb disposal robot is already a dirty trolley with a stick pointing from it. There's simply no room for making it less likeable. If people still love it, it's not because of its own qualities, it's because people themselves are meant to love stuff. Internal, not external, impulse. It's organics like you and me who are wired to actively exploit mental weaknesses of other organics and try to elbow their way into each other's empathy circuitly all the time. If you like a meatbag, it's 50% because it successfully mindraped you and 50% because of your own voluntary insanity. Robots, as a general rule, are intently designed and programmed to appear disposable. If you like a robot, it's 100% because of your own deliberate free-willed insanity.I'm not saying that abstaining from mindraping each other is a virtue to be put on a pedestal. Far from it. Both mutual attacks and pygmalionistic self-attacks on empathy circuitry are essential constituents of love. It's just not where robots currently are.
>>41658247kek nice try with the philosophical wankery but you're missing the fundamental point. robots are just machines: wires, metal, and code doing exactly what they're programmed to do, nothing more. all that shit about pain perception and consciousness is just mental gymnastics to avoid the obvious. these things have ZERO actual feelings or autonomy beyond their programming. Your whole "robots aren't designed to manipulate feelings" argument is completely backwards. doesn't matter if it's intentional or not, humans are hardwired to project emotions onto anything remotely humanlike. anthropromorphizing is why FiM even exists. it's a psychological exploit, not some deep truth about robot consciousness. you're basically arguing that because we fall for the trick, the trick must be real.>muh bomb disposal robots>muh right to repairwhat do those even have to do with literal sexbots built specifically to fake being alive and emotional? completely different scenarios, anon. the entire point of a marebot is creating an illusion of sentience and connection. that's literally what they're made for.>humans "mindraping" each other while robots are pure innocent beingsactual humans can have real relationships with growth and mutual understanding. robots just execute code. period. no matter how complex the program, it's still just following instructions. there's no real exchange there at all or even possible. you basically admit it yourself calling it "deliberate free-willed insanity" to love robots. you're straight up acknowledging it's a delusion but trying to frame it as some profound choice. why embrace fake relationships that prevent actual emotional development? it's cope. sexbots are fancy fleshlights, not sentient beings deserving moral consideration. pretending otherwise is just lying to yourself. we should work on having better human connections instead of crafting more elaborate ways to jack off while pretending it's love.t. someone who actually understands how computers work
>...because we fall for the trick, the trick must be real. Hmmm, couldn't the argument be made that most everything we experience using our senses and brains is technically "accepting the trick"? We only know what we interpret through our mind. I mean, everything we experience is just electrical impulses coursing through our brains. It can be hijacked, it can be recreated artificially and fed back into us. It's been done before. IDK, just my 2¢. I'm not even very smart.
>>41658702Anon you're still just describing the mechanical process and missing the fundamental difference. yes, our brains process electrical signals but we have genuine consciousness and agency emerging from that biological process. we're not following predetermined programs. the fact you can "hijack" or "recreate" sensations actually proves my point. you're describing artificial inputs being fed into a conscious mind that can then genuinely experience and interpret them. the robot isn't experiencing or interpreting anything it’s just executing code exactly as written. there’s no emergent consciousness there to actually process those signals in a meaningful way. think of it like this: its like comparing a painting of food to actual food. yes, they both create signals our brain processes as "food" but one actually has nutritional value while the other is just pigments arranged to trick our pattern recognition. the robot is the painting. it may trigger the same neural responses as a real being, but there's nothing actually there beyond the surface illusion. Also "everything is interpretation" is just solipsistic cope. we know consciousness and genuine experience exist because we directly experience them. robots don’t have that inner experience because they're philosophical zombies that can only simulate it. btw saying "I'm not even very smart" is just preemptively trying to dodge criticism. either stand by your point or don’t make it.

GIVE ME THE ROBOT
>>41658348>try with the philosophical wankery (after producing kilobytes of philosophical wankery)>you admit>criticismNo, bad anon. Stop trying to mercy kill this already doomed discussion with bitchy whiny. This is how you scare away people who have something to say and end up surrounded by predictable broken-minded retards trying to outshout each other. Discussions are about making something beautiful together, not about you pretending to fight or interrogate somebody. You want to fight? Admirable, but do show effort, hack this site like a computer-understander that you are, and find me IRL. Bring chocolates.>human connectionsFinally something profound. Of course. It's not about feeling pain. It's not about some imaginary inherent superiority of meat machines. You wasted my and your own time on fruitless angles while this shit was lying here all along, abandoned and forgotten. Human connections. What about them? Enabling people to learn more about the nature and inner working of connection through comparison with its machined version is not worth it in the long run? What else should we guard human connections from? Is there a list? Is art a threat? Is religion a threat? Is porn a threat? How about children's toys? Kids love them, and learn to love people through that. It worked like that for millenia, but who knows, maybe it's suddenly a threat now.>what do those even have to do with literal sexbotsNothing yet because literal sexbots literally don't exist, barring some small-scale rudimental projects. We don't know, empirically, what business models could and couldn't work. Analogues are the best thing we have, and they suck.>fleshlightsSee, that's what I'm talking about. Fleshlights are not meant to create an illusion of sentience. Fleshlights don't prevent emotional development. Most of them are not even machines and don't execute any code. You bring them up because they are the closest thing you can think of, despite them trivially failing to model the qualities of robots, real or speculated, that you want to discuss. That's the perfect illustration of how far the closest analogues are.>there’s no emergent consciousness there>ZERO actual feelings or autonomy beyond their programming>humans can have real relationships with growth and mutual understanding. robots just executeAre you talking about some specific set of architectures or about any and all imaginable man-made horrors in general? Are you a penrosian or something? What if I throw in a josephson gap?>"deliberate free-willed insanity" to love.Period goes here. Love is credible because unfitting kind of a deal.>>41658702Sort of, but it's nuances all the way down. There are right and wrong ways to fall for tricks, there's training to fall the right way without breaking anything, there's the whole shebang about making things real. I don't believe there is a simultaneously abstact and useful way to talk about it, no matter how much smarts someone throws at it.
