Years after watching the show I often come back to the question of who I think it's the best or the worst pony and I find it kind of difficult to quantify with a consistent rubric. So I started thinking about why I like some of the lower tier characters less.Take this with a grain of salt because this is just general vibes I get from each character and they might change as I plan to rewatch the show again beginning to end.Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash have always been low on my list for complete opposite reasons.Fluttershy I feel is basically perfect and that's why I have a problem with her. She's kind but her main personal battle is her shyness which seems to get ignored during climaxes of the episodes she stars in. The only time she really has any conflict is when she's subjected to changing and is usually justified in doing so when characters switch on a dime in acting rude to her. Once she gets over that she should break out of her shell and not bully others, there's not really much to her besides her love for animals. She's always in the right even in the more egregious episodes in the future. Meanwhile Rainbow Dash acts like a lot of the characters she hates on a regular basis. I feel like I can count how many times she's abandoned her friends because "It's not cool" than I can standing up for them when things get tough. Only flipping sides after damage has already been done so she can get a happy ending. RD is supposed to be the loyal and I can without a doubt say I can count of her the most to do the opposite of what she's supposed to stand for. I wouldn't trust RD with anything.Like I have similar issues with other characters. Rarity being vain. Twilight forgetting what it means to be a good friend. Pinkie Pies reaction to neglection. But I realize the higher on the ranking they are to me is how much their flaws can be forgiven.I'm probably just waffling and again it's based mostly on vibes and me membering faults over values.
