Fuck the mod devs, and fuck Paradox for creating special projects and partisans that necessitates occupying garrisons. EaW devs hate Equestria. Equestria is not balanced. Having the yaks gaurantee Equestria before the Changelings declare war is an impossible feat. The focus tree is mostly useless and the only big brain plays in it are maybe economy, research, Olenia, and triggering the condition to get Stalliongrad to help in the war. Also, the Crystal Empire is a special fucking pain in the ass, because it becomes a domain, making me lose military factories, and Sombra Scare is a massive -20% recruitable population for them. The devs objectively hate Equus. I can win the war with the Changelings on normal difficulty, but I have to min-max leading up to war every goddamn time. I would have had heavy tanks fielded like in the old days before the mechanization/armor national spirit debuff that costs too much army XP to remove.

Equestria is easy. Just start out by building infrastructure all along the border. Then after that build up full forts along the whole border as well. You can also be more optimal by getting level 5 forts, taking the two fort techs, and only then taking the focus that gives you forts along the border so that you can get more out of it (going from level 5 forts to level 7 forts for free is better than going from level 0 to level 2). Also build up anti air along the border and supply to the north. Outside of that you should be rushing everything you can to get war support up almost as fast as possible. Don't forget to send out an attache. And do the extra war support decisions. Getting the two tech slots is also very important, arguably on par with the war support. For the army, focus entirely on being able to defend. Just get good infantry with artillery and anti tank and pump out a bunch of divisions. You should switch everything to the basic infantry right at the start and only make more of those. Be sure to have all your units fully trained. Extremely importantly, do not forget to preemptively put a few divisions on the tiles where the changelings get to spawn divisions behind your lines. Also just as important, make sure you are defended against naval invasions. Either the garrison divisions or sub spam seem to be fine to prevent it. The river in the south and the poor supply in the north will make it impossible for them to push. They'll only even have a shot in the center with the plains and no river for them. If you want to be absolutely certain then you can build a fort line behind the river there too. They'll get the tiny bit of your territory on their side of the river, but this will make it even easier for your units to defend.
With that you can trivially defend with no or almost no territory lost. And since the changelings will never be able to push you you'll be able to do whatever you want to them. Take as long as you want to build up as much as you want.
All that being said, yeah Equus is dogshit and the devs love to shit on Equestria.

My problem with Equestria is that it feels like I am not allowed to play the game until after the Changeling war. The early game is so formulaic and boring now that the mod devs neutered Equestria's armor research and production via a national spirit. Paradox adding special projects is a gimmick IMO.
