How should non-unicorns hold weapons?
>>
>>41840649
There is a fourth place they can put it
>>
>>41840650
>There is a fourth place they can put it
Yeah, the ground. They should be nice to each other and not fight.
>>
>>41840655
THE JOKE IS THAT THEY CAN PUT UP THEIR ASS
>>
Pegasi and earth ponies should have specialty weapons built to benefit their particular anatomy. In particular, I'd imagine fake talons would be very popular for pegasi and earth ponies would probably enjoy fake horns.
>>
>>41840649
Mouth and tail hold are cool but ultimately pretty impractical. Just go with flexible sticky hooves that sort of function like a snake's tail, it's what everyone and the show did.
>>
>>41840661
Earth ponies should use heavy weapon harnesses (gatling guns, automatic grenade launchers) or straight up towed artillery
>>
Mouth, tail, or back mount.
>>
>>41840649
They should have heavy boots on their back legs or spikes that extend out when they buck. Or maybe even helmets with fake horns.
They shouldnt hold stuff.
>>
>>41840688
You can tell a pony's a part of the local levy if they wear heavy horseshoes. Better for bucking, better for carrying supplies.

Saddle guns, except instead of machine guns that are controlled with magic, it's just a pair of 15-pounders controlled with a pull-cord they hold in their mouths

Ignoring cartoon logic: ponies can trample and kick and wear horseshoes/barding to make fierce melee attack. Pegasi fighting tactics can include diving and aerial fighting. Held weapons are kind of retarded to force into the entire setting. Real answer: "magic"/cartoon logic. I can speculate that all ponies exert a proximal telekinetic force through their forehooves, giving them the ability to grip objects and possess fine control analogous to human fingers.

Yeah but once you accept ponies can use hooves as hands then you lose cute stuff like ponies walking around with a basket in their mouth.

Even if they could hold items and weapons with their front hooves That wouldn't be their first option. Their bodies are built to stay in all fours so they would walk arround with things in their mouths most of the time.

Mouth hold will break their teeth. Tail hold and hoofhold are physically impossible. They should just accept unicorns as the master race.

All of them? One in each hoof, one in mouth, one in tail. Four swords in total

Here's my idea of pony weaponry
>>
>>41842568
Imagine how dorky they look bobbing their head and kicking their hooves back and forth trying to use those.
>En garde! Have at thee!-OHCELESTIA I KNICKED MY HOOF!
>>
>>41840667
How would they pull a trigger or reload a back mounted weapon?
>>
>>41842568
>blades on the legs
Makes basically everything other than fighting significantly more challenging and dangerous, and even some fighting maneuvers become no longer viable.
>spiked helm
This feels much more viable, though I'd imagine they'd be using it more like a horn rather than slashing with it.
>>
>>41842568
>>41842620
The helmet is basically just a slanted pickelhaube, which we already know exists because Maud wears one.

Maybe the front blades were a dumb idea. Still think the back blades are viable though. Mostly because of my favorite manga had retractable heel blades as a weapon.

If you were going to do similar for a pony, I feel like you'd want to spike to be in-line with the leg so that you could essentially turn a buck into an aggressive piercing attack. Would also significantly reduce the danger it poses to your fellow soldiers.

I've always looked at pegasi as being ideal for physical combat. They could mount lances on their shoulders and use momentum and diving to attack. Kinda like jousting, just remove the rider and replace them with some sort of mount for a long, pointy stick.

There's also the idea of wingblades. Can be used with momentum from flying to slice things, or can be used on the ground as swords (kinda). Pegasi are good for this sort of thing. Not as good as unicorns being able to just hold whatever they want, but certainly better than earth ponies in terms of weapon potential.
>>
>>41842669
I always pictured the pegasus acting like bomber planes dropping explosives and incendiary weapons on the battlefield.
>>
>>41840959
One thing I love about Tamers is the unicorns fire bullets instead of energy beams. Twilight Sparkle Blast is basically her creating a bullet and firing it using magic as the propellant.

For firing the weapon they would probably have a pressure sensor in their mouth or ponut
Ponut would be more practical than mouth due to not interfering with communication, but there may be social taboos around that
If they had to reload in the field, they would either retreat to a strongpoint to receive assistance with reloading or have support teams of earth ponies pulling large ammo carts while unicorns maintain a protective shield and telekinetically swap ammo packs
They could also have squires that carry extra ammo and reload the weapon for them

So a pony with a back mounted gun is basically a smaller and less armored tank. Why not just have ponies ride tanks?
>Tanks can carry more ammunition
>Tanks are faster
>Tanks can take more damage
>Tanks can fire heavier weapons
Ponies already have heavy construction vehicles and we see multiple cannons in the show. Combine the two technologies and you basically have a tank.

I think it's fair to say that a civilization capable of creating Manehattan has the technological capacity to create tanks, but just because they could build tanks, doesn't mean they would
It's a huge undertaking to design and manufacture a tank, far greater than mere heavy weapons
I think it would also go against the ethos of the show and break the suspension of disbelief, though other people may consider my heavy weapons idea to have a similar flaw
>>
>>41842987
>Ponies already have heavy construction vehicles
Flim and Flam were no strangers to technological marvels, as they showed with the Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 3000. That heavy machinery could very well be an invention of theirs, made to suit the needs of a more industrial timeline.
When I think about it, it's kind of unfortunate those two squandered their skills on things like cider and snake-oil scams. This is all assuming they built the SSCS 3000 themselves, of course, and didn't just con some brilliant pony into doing it for them.
>>
>>41842669
The momentum from the impact would be very dangerous for their shoulders. Humans hold lances with their hands, which can move somewhat freely, while the shoulder is fairly static.
It could work if the lances were engineered to break before transferring enough impact force to the shoulder to damage it, though that would make them mostly single-use, and if you're going with single-use weapons, grenades would work much better than lances.
>>41842681
Wingblades would be very dangerous to use, as anything other than a shallow cut would likely damage the wing, and for shallow cuts to be effective, they would have to target particularly vulnerable spots like the neck.
If a pony were to parry a wingblade attack, it would almost certainly result in injury for the pegasus wielding it.

I think heavy guns are more strap on, while normal small guns need to have the trigger big enough for their hooves
