What's the value of one Equestrian Bit compared to human currency?

The exchange rate is 34 875,26 bits to one Hungarian forint.

The bit is 1 part of a seventh of a ceramic coin.
7 bits is 1 ceramic coin.

Fluttershy bought a berry for 3 bits in one episode, right?
3 bits is 3/7 of a ceramic coin.

It was a red berry, if I recall.
A red berry in the us is about 0.04U$D, so 3 bits is about 0,04 USD, we can round it to 0,03 and we got our result:
1 bit = 0,01 USD

It's difficult to directly compare purchasing power like that when the productive processes of the countries in question are entirely different. Equestria is magical but in some ways pre-industrial, that means that it's very hard to compare prices apples-to-apples.

My best guess is that because an apple is either one to two bits, I'm going to assume one bit is about a dollar in USD currency.

Applejack sold a whole apple pie to Soarin for two bits at the Grand Galloping Gala. A gourmet apple pie (likely the price point at such a venue) goes for like $40~
So I'd guess each bit was about $20. Dr. Whooves once bought a single apple from AJ for 4 bits tho, of course AJ told him that he forgot his change.

Don't tell anybody I told you this, but if the writers didn't coordinate on things like character arcs they definitely weren't going to coordinate on something as small as the value of coinage in Equestria.

I never understood the idea of purchasing power. If for example, 1 Equestrian Bit (EQB) is worth 20 Griffonstone Bits (GSB), then the currency itself is just a unit that needs to be converted. If 1 EQB in 2010 is now worth 20, then again, the only thing to change is the unit. I feel like there's some invisible unit that's never mentioned. Equestrian Bits, Griffonstone Bits, Horse Canadian Bits, etc. should all be representations of the same unit of value, right?

An apple pie costs $8 today but was probably $5 when the show came out. So a bit's value might be around $2.50.

I'm not talking about the frozen Marie Calendar's shit you are. Obviously AJ isn't gonna sell cheap shit at the Gala. She went there for money, and this was the event of the kingdom.
....although, thinking about it AJ is an idiot, so she probably would go to a fancy party and bring a bunch of cheap shit to sell for cheap.
So never mind!

There’s no consistency in the show. Have it be whatever you feel it is for whatever project you’re doing.
>>

Its arbitrary/meaningless. The ponies just come up with some random number everytime because they're being silly. It's an Equestria-wide joke.

Equestria is incredibly rich. Rare gems and stuff lie only a foot under the ground, and unicorns have prospecting spells, so they can just dig straight to them.

I imagine the same goes for rare earth metals. That probably means the coins are strraight made up of pure gold. I mean, it sure looks like gold. And based on how little a single bit buys, there have to be massive amounts of gold readily available for the crown to mint that much currency where the intrinsic value of a lump of gold is worth less than half a mug of cider.

In other words, if ponies somehow found a reliable way to get to our Earth, they'd be LOADED. Fuck buying Greenland, they'd buy the entire USA.

All hail President Twilight Sparkle. If you disagree, enjoy being a charred spot in the dirt.

One bit is of equivalent value to one human soul.

Anon that would just cause loads of inflation.

This is somewhat confirmed in an Friendship Games deleted scene, where Twi still has bits, instead of them being converted into some kind of currency.
Sure, it didn't make it to the movie, but the reason for that wasn't because of the bits, but rather because Hasbro didn't want both Twilights to show up during the movie individually.

My headcanon when it comes to metals and minerals in Equestria is that they have reverse-rarity to Earth, so gold and gemstones are incredibly common in there, while things like iron and copper are much rarer.

If that's the case, then they aren't as valuable as they are here on earth.

That's a nice headcanon, it could explain how Sunset Shimmer got money to sustain herself.
