Top kek, they're fucking amazing. Super clean and the balance sounds right. The balance is in line with normal UT voices; the MLPVoicePackagesv02 voices sound rather harsh to me, but it's up to you what you want to make these consistent for. Few nitpicks are lack of [Order] lines for Aria and Sonata, since those have some control over bots, but Adagio should be leading anyway. And it's tilting when 30 bots manage to roll "You fell" over and over again. But nothing can really be done about those, and I wouldn't change them. Good work.

Too loud? Or that they're not properly isolated? (Or both)
I'll eventually tweak the Mane 6 voice packs, both to add more lines and to isolate the ones most affected by background noise, but they're not a priority and for now they work quite well.
I prefer the voice packs to be somewhat noisy and for each player to be able to reduce their volume in the menu, rather than having them too quiet from the start (now I'm wondering, there's an option to reduce the sound of voice commands in the menu, right?)

i think it got stuck on loading because it needs more RAM in the java vm? at least something above 6700 mb would be enough i think

or the instance defaulted to the forge/neoforge modloader if no modloader was installed in the menum, and even after installing the fabric modloader the instance would be bugged by having two modloaders where one was secretly installed by defaulted when no mod loader was selected in the menu.

Not open source (if you care) also i find it easier to have mods and such isolated in their own little instances and it's faster to download and install them. Also on the official launcher i don't think you can use offline/cracked accounts only your real one. But apart from that there's not like any performance gains or anything i don't think.

You know what? After reading your previous post, I went to play around with the voices of the Mane 6 (+vinyl), and yes, they are very loud.
I'm surprised I never noticed that before. I'll turn down the volume on all of them a little bit.

I usually don't play with anons but since it was something different (and X-mas) i decided to give a try. The unicopia mod is actually decent but latest is on 1.21.1/1.21.2. The current version he's hosting (for 1.20) has server crashing issues and some of the items that work in later versions are just place holders. I think it's worth a shot, after the host figures his stuff out, that is.

The host is dumb and autistic so he wants some dimension dedicated to a hub (ponyville piece set) and spawn outside of the overworld. He could just make the piece set in super far away chunks in the overworld and, i don't know, use a waypoint mod for the rest of the overworld

I tried it but I've got a hunch that the skins are client only. All the new models have doubled-up or mixed male/female hurt sfx. And Looking at the download cache from the server, I've got the shadowbolt and dazzling .u/.utx files, but still, those skins act the same way as if I switched to one the server doesn't have, e.g. derpy. Also, the server menu isn't showing up anymore for me -- the one that let's you change your skin and name colours (ServerMenuMutatorV1c.u is being downloaded though, if that's it). If you can get that menu working again, it may be a good indicator of what the server knows about. Could be my game is fucked.
Set up a UTC time and I'll hop on the server to help debug with you. We can use an IRC service if needed.

Those look like the low LOD versions, what settings are you running? I just gave the "Dynamic Mesh LOD" setting a test, and at low/normal the detail is visibly crunched away. Fuck, I gave the shadowbolts +~5k tris to try and preserve their accessories and face details, but it's had the opposite affect on lower settings. (Each character should have at least eyelashes and an eye outline.) I could try fiddling in the UnrealEd settings to fix it, or maybe leave it as a genuine performance optimization (maybe with a disclaimer).

Anyway, I hope this whole project isn't too distracting for you. You've still got a stream to do!

It's just that for pushing skins you need to organize a .uc and then .u file for each character; that's normal.

I've got it working on my local server, here's my setup for one character/pack:

In WebAdmin management, you should be able to see and add Trixie bots, add them, client should see them. Done.

This doesn't require the NameMod.u script files (the server UPL handles the linking to textures, mesh, and character), and the user doesn't have to pre-download the modpack to see the models, as the utx and ukx are downloaded from the fileserver redirect as uxx cache (and if that fails, from the game server at a throttled rate, from what I can see). However, for the users to actually use the custom models, they will need to download the UPL files and put them into their System directory, so they can select them in their settings.
I think it's different for the eg_girls pack because both its the textures and animation files are named the same and unreal attempts to cleverly unfuck it. It sort of makes sense that if you used the same method for eg_girls for these new packs, you'll get a missing texture like Trixie there, as I've named the texture and animation packs differently. That's my reasoning at least.

Well, it seems I got it working!

You were right, the .u files weren't necessary for each character as they were for the other ones, BUT that wasn't what was causing the problem.
The culprit was UTComp, which, of course, was active when we tested it on Sunday a few hours ago, but it wasn't active when I tested the skins and could see them on Saturday, just like you, who ironically commented on it and ended up being the key.
I already put UTComp 1.8b on the server, hoping it would be fixed instantly, but that's not the case.
I also checked the section created in UT2004.ini to see if there was any useful parameter there, but that didn't help either.
Tomorrow I'll write about this on a UT2004 Discord server I'm on, which is very active and where the guy who made and updates this version of UTComp is, along with all the other guys who are behind bringing the official game back, updated and free, announced a few days ago.
So hopefully it will be a known issue and someone will be able to guide me

I've gone down a different rabbit hole.
I now understand what you meant by "pushing skins"; I made a couple mistakes thinking they weren't useful:
If the client has upl files pre-installed (ukx/utx isn't a requirement): server has custom models visible -- at least to the client.
If the client doesn't have upl files: default models regardless.
With the NameMod.u scripts, you don't need the upl files on the client for them to see the models, they're "pushed" to the client (basically downloadable pseudo-upl files). Makes it more convenient/disturbing for anyone joining without installing anything.

Anyway, I think I found why the NameMod.u files aren't working, or at least a lead. The server character's upl DefaultName and NameMod.u classname need to be the same. For example, for eqg_magic.upl DefaultName="The Great and Powerful Trixie" and GaPTrixieMod.u class GaPTrixie, changing the upl DefaultName to "GaPTrixie" makes the skin work.
I tried decompiling your mods, changing the name, and recompiling, but UnrealEd is a real pain in the ass and the cli isn't much better -- changing the upl names is much easier and faster. There's still some odd characters that don't seem to work with the change: SciTwiCPA, VicePrincipalLuna, DJPon3, and VinylScratchEQG (possibly broken .u file). Maybe there's an attribute/property somewhere we can use to point to an alternative name.

I scraped the .u mods off your server and tried them on mine, nearly everything works except for these three:

The first two may be because they have numbers in the filename and/or classname still (shimmer still references EG3, DJ_Pon still has DJPon3), and pinkie_pie_winter is not there at all from the looks of it. The good news is that this shouldn't require a re-release of the mega-pack you've made, just the .u scripts on the server (unless you have to re-do the UPLs). How do they look on your end?

The problem was that I left the old .u with the 3 at the end on the server instead of the new one, which doesn't have the 3, and I didn't correct it in ServerPackages either.

Yeah, the problem in the end was the desynchronization between the names in the upl and those in classes in the uc/u, which I swear I considered as a probable diagnosis as soon as I noticed there was a problem.
The thing is, the old skins had spaces in the defaultname of the upl, but it works perfectly with their classes set without spaces, so I thought that wasn't the problem and it must be something else. Well, at least it was something simple.
Oh, and yes, you can't use parentheses, hyphens, and numbers as a character name, that's also an obstacle.
That's why I changed most of the skin names.
Even so, UTComp remains a problem. I'll see what I can do about it over the course of the week.

Bad news with UTComp compatibility, look at my schizo pic.
When I was creating the skins, I saw that the unreal engine made the textures too bright, so I used a "combiner" texture (trixie_01) which combines two materials: the character skin (trixie_01_atlas) and a light grey ("dark") to lower the brightness on-the-fly. I thought this would work well, because it keeps the source colours (non-destructive), and the light grey can be adjusted to any RGB.

The issue is UTComp doesn't recognise Combiner textures, or otherwise fails to handle them from what I can see. UTComp most likely uses a combiner texture itself for the team colour overlay feature, which is where I suspect the error is.
So, some solutions: 1, don't use UTComp; 2, we update every upl file to add "_atlas" to every bodyskin and faceskin string and deal with bright textures (may require updating the .u DefaultProperties too, Jesus Christ); 3, fix the UTComp mutator as it's open source. It allows Combiner textures and fixes the Epic/Brighter/UTComp Styles in-game and in the UTComp menu for them. There was also a funny bug where all the bots would simultaneously change colour whenever any bot was shot by certain weapons, with 30 bots this could cause epileptic fits or outright kill the frail. Anyway, I recommend "Epic Style" for a slightly less saturated skins in FFA. Let me know of any bugs.

I'm away right now, but I'll try getting the blends, scripts, and a proper walkthrough packaged this weekend (and note, besides the python3 scripts, everything else is bash/linux shit). For now, here's the workflow notes:
Setup:
Download your GTA/Renderware skin: .txd (textures), dff (mesh/skeleton) -> Use Magic.TXD to extract all the images from the .txd as png into same directory as .dff.
Use umodel (UE Viewer) to extract reference models from UT2004:

Blender (seems daunting but 80% of this has been automated in python, just fuck around here if you're unfamiliar):
Install extensions:

>Unreal PSK/PSA
Import a SkeletalMesh PSK from the umodel export, i.e. NightFemaleB.psk
Import your GTA .dff (only the dff, we don't need the txd because we extracted the images with Magic.TXD). Important import settings:
>Scan for Images: true, Extension: PNG
>Read Material Split=true,
>Group Similar Materials=true
>Materials=Texture.
>Use Edge split= false
Scale the models using shared bones: snap GTA head -> UT Head, snap GTA foot -> UT Foot. (Rotate the GTA model if it's facing the wrong way.)
GTA T-Pose to UT A-Pose: pose GTA mesh/skeleton to an a-pose roughly matching the UT skeleton.
Check GTA mesh materials, check if there's "unnamed" solid colours directly on the mesh and extract its RGB to a small png, consolidate any duplicate materials, delete any unused materials.
Outside of blender, combine all the png images that are being used into one image. Image size should be a multiple of 2 (1024, 2048, 4096, etc).
In blender, create a new material with the big image (atlas) you've made and move all the UVs onto it. Delete other materials.
Snap UT limb bones to GTA bones: UT wrist -> GTA wrist, UT elbow -> GTA elbow, etc.
Transfer bone weights from GTA vertex groups to UT vertex groups; alternatively, blender auto-weight.
Parent GTA mesh to UT skeleton. Delete UT mesh, delete GTA skeleton.
Do any adjustments here, fix eyes, use a decimate modifier ~0.1-0.2, etc.
Export mesh+skeleton as unreal .psk.

That texture atlas process is probably not ideal manually; it may be better to use blender to bake the materials onto one image and transfer the uv mapping some other way, But the script for it just werks.

Textures-UTX (convert your character atlas/texture png into a tga file, filesize may be big, but we'll compress it):
View -> Show Texture browser

(Anim. Browser) Steal the default UT character's properties:

(TEX. BROWSER) Open up the textures package and select (green highlight) the skin you want to use for the character.
(Anim. Browser) Set the properties on your mesh:

(Anim. Browser) File -> Save filename different from the textures package filename.
Preview and play the animations in the browser to see if they look alright.

Character-UPL:
Just a text file with the character name that links up settings, voices, portraits, mesh and textures. Use another file as reference. Put this in the UT2004 System directory.
With the UKX in Animations, UTX in Textures, and UPL in System, you should be able to boot up your game and see your character in settings.

Yeah! Been using the board here and there mostly for /chag/ since late 2023 but now I'm fully back home. It's a kind of happy I can't describe, since I've been on the ride since 2011. Feels like things have come full circle.

And SF6 is great! It's a bit controversial, do note that the top level players treat it kind of like a comedy game. It's super volatile, as you can cancel any special cancellable move into a drive rush (basically a fast forward dash that brings you across the screen). It means any stray hit can lead into a giant combo with a gross amount of corner carry. I have a huge sense of humor and the fact the game is so popular but also so volatile and slapstick-y means it's so up my alley. Combos are super easy to do unlike the crazy input timing demands of SF4 so it's very approachable for casuals. As much as I love the game though, it's a bit greedy, having microtransactions and fomo battlepasses and other shit.

SF5 was fun in my opinion but I get disliking it. The V-trigger systems can be a bit complicated since every character has wacky bullshit they can do that you gotta memorize. SF6 is generally a very silly, aggressive game where you're kind of just trying to bully the opponent into the corner so you can smash them. It's got depth outside of that for sure and lots of people like it seriously, and I do too, I'm just also a big shitposter and like that side of the game.

Yeah i had this problem too. I've found a solution by accident: When i open my screenshot program (linux) the download fails and i can type reconnect in the console and it will download everything at full speed. I haven't played long enough there to test if just cancelling the download and running reconnect would fix it but hope this helps

I've noticed that none of the buttons were set in the control options but for some reason they weren't working when i set them manually. Alright, so 1.21's been out for a bit, still need to check the mods to see what's up to date and what isn't.
Currently, the server has simply been running on the last 1.20 version and not been updated yet.
Wanted to get some input on what to do going forward.

It's a little weird, but once you get it going, it's a lot better than the other steam engine mod.
One bronze boiler with 3 wheels nearly maxes out one HPG on 1:1, and there's a lot more steam left in the system, meaning you could scale this a lot higher, and for considerably less than the older steam engines.
It also seems like it's running at full speed, meaning there's likely unused torque left in this system still.
Haven't tried the other boilers with different materials yet.

For the videos, if the subtitles don't appear, you may have to manually load the srt files. And be aware that the scripts and documentation .MD are claude code slop, so if something doesn't make sense, it's probably better to trust your own judgement. If you don't know how to read MD files, there's a bunch of reader extensions on browsers, or you can just read them as plain text.

Nah, you're not. Those steps are real fucking vague and don't state the goal:

Anyway, basically all you have to do in blender is create one texture, put all UT bones into the GTA mesh, and rename GTA vertex groups to UT ones. Doesn't really matter how you do it. These blender scripts work mainly for the SFM->GTA eqg bipedal models, but you're mixing it up by throwing a quadrupedal pony model into it. Here's some ideas:
1. Pose the quadrupedal to bipedal and try use the blender scripts.
2. Move all bipedal UT bones to the quadrupedal GTA bones and don't use a DefaultAnimation value (this'll probably create a static pony character without any animation).
3. Move all bipedal UT bones to the quadrupedal GTA bones and force the mesh to use MeshAnimation'HumanFemaleA.BipedFemaleA' (this'll probably look fucked).
4. Move all bipedal UT bones to the quadrupedal GTA bones and make a new animation set PSA for UT. Could possibly re-use MeshAnimation'HumanFemaleA.BipedFemaleA'/BipedFemaleA.psa to copy the animation data for the legs (hindlegs) and apply them to the arms (forelegs), hopefully automate the process for the ~100 animations.
If going with 2, 3, or 4, move the UT Bone_weapon to the pony's mouth or torso/barrel and connect it to head or shoulder. Use the stage07 script to just move all the bones over to the pony.

Yeah but it doesn't usually happen, in this particular case it was a map issue; it's cool but too big for 1v1 and too small for 2v2 (maybe 3v3?)
Where it happens most is in Onslaught, and that's fine because it's a game mode designed to be long, and I like it better that way, it makes them more intense and more thoughtful

Yes but only deathmatch (FFA) and cooperative can be played vanilla or with light limit removing ports. For historical reasons doom gamemodes are very different, with varying game rules, physics and abilities so while it's easy to host a server yourself with any of the hosting providers i linked getting a server with the right config can be a pain in the ass if you don't have experience with what you want to play (and want to be serious about it).
I'm planning to host doom ctf next time. It is played with zdoom 1.23 physics, freelook and jump with no aircontrol (think classic castlevania style jumps).

And just to maybe hype a bit, doom ctf is the fastest arena shooter gamemode played competitively. Or so i've been told. And yes, there's rocket jumping, super fast jumps (at the cost of a good amount of your hp, so not something you will be using as frequently as in other arena shooters).

Also, for this gamemode it would be interesting to have a SR50 bind. It's a way to go faster than normal strafing (SR40) at the cost of not being able to move the mouse while you hold the SR50 button and you should be using it to go faster overall and do some specific jumps (some maps expect you to do a SR50 jump).

The straferight and strafeleft works just like your normal left and right movement buttons but with the addition of working in SR50 if you hold the +sr bind while strafing (holding forward/backward and strafeleft/straferight)

Nah, it's a line ending issue in the text file: Windows does a CR+LF (\r\n) while Unix only does a new line feed (\n). You'll have to create the materials.txt in Linux or convert it in Windows (Notepad++ should have the option somewhere). I think the .bat file also has this issue, so fuck, sorry!
