That joke is the characters presenting their mental disorders and sexual preference as their introductions. In real life, where we have to present ourselves in easy to understand words, this would be reasonable. In equestria, where being a homo currently makes you a legal and social outcast, it would make sense to mention. Rather than letting soarin tell the joke, too, applebottom also introduces his low-quality nonsense blood OC who is gay, almost exactly the way all the other characters were introduced, but with the addition of a description of his racial traits. The parallel is clear: these characters are being presented as equally shallow with this fictional crayon drawing. Sombra lampshades how trite Split's schizophrenia "thing" is, disregarding his preferred name. "We get it." Sombra has to fight to get his own greetings. Soarin is outright disregarded. Redheart spends the whole time minimizing the stallion's person hood, and also the marriage of So&Br. Redheart, by the end, has ordered AB and CP to fuck and then told them she's out of ideas. Pinkie and Twilight are no different. Every character spends the whole time ignoring every other character, other than applebottom, who listens to and speaks for CP without being asked. The scene is dripping with this contempt.Both CP and AB say they struggle to hold down a meaningful relationship, but Split wasn't, to our knowledge, trying to be in a relationship before now, and neither was CP. They've been through one breakup, sort of. This is essentially just both of them stating outright that they consider the fact they aren't currently "in a relationship" to be a problem while also demonstrating the most care of anyone in the scene, even Soarin and Brae.
I hope we dont see apple split and Care Package for a while. We've seen too much of them for a while. Rather see Big mac and Future Soarin more in depth or see some more Soarin and Braeburn to mix it up a bit

The climax of the scene is the unleashing of the aggression which she feared, and which luna was sent here to deal with. The Women do not say "My name is chrissi and I'm straight as light beams" or "I'm luna and I'm special because of my anger issues and cataracts."In the arrival scene, there's that small bike bell. It's placed after a moment in which the audience has time to observe what's happening, and it announces the presence of the bike and the scene itself. It has purpose, not just as ambient expected noise, but as a statement. The action and moment have meaning, and the bell speaks that meaning.The end joke of the arrival scene is luna eating peanut shells, or CP having a fat ass. The peanut joke is incomprehensible, says something about luna as a person. The fat ass is mundane, arbitrary, and not consistent. To the degree that this detail of a fat ass has purpose, it exists so that applebottom would have a heavy load to pull, as a token of his effort.After the mare version, after luna's mental anguish has been unleashed into a savage, unknown form, we immediately use that uncertainty for a dream sequence with trixie. Luna reuses the "extorted for 250$s line from chrysalis, turning it into a threat. In the stallion version, AB calls the place a ripoff, but it doesn't carry nearly the same weight or finality. This isn't the end of the line for them, but they treat it like it is anyway.The purpose of both these scenes is to justify the characters giving up on improvement, becoming lost causes, and doing harm immediately thereafter. The case which the mare episode makes for this is fairly complete. It comes down to luna's emotional state and chrysalis exists to be an obnoxious fuckwhit who's existence amplifies Luna's issues. The case which the stallion episode makes is constantly contradicted, and AB himself comes out of the therapy session unconvinced. He only says that that place was a ripoff. After Soarin and Braeburn directly stated the logical reasons why Split was in the wrong, those receive no attention here. Package's negative epiphany does not follow from anything that has happened. It's also their first session, meaning Package tried exactly 1 thing once, and gave up.

The very next episode is Soarin&Breaburn, which is a massive escalation in terms of tamer's animated pony violence.Now, in this episode, we've got the worst of both worlds. There's the most grotesque and shallow violence yet, ending mostly in little red splashes and pulled directly from a crayon drawing presented in therapy. There's events which only hold the intended meaning because a character directly tells us what the meaning is supposed to be, which is rather like luna's art. As a bonus, we've got character presentation which are intentionally shitty and only saved by the intended thematic interpretation, which most audience members won't even get consciously.It's a good episode, somehow. It's a good scene, even.I just wish there was some way to express the feeling of being completely ignored and unhelped by your society and reduced down to shallow labels other than watching characters pretend to be shallow while they stand around and get ignored.
