At the end of the day I think it's just easier for him to write Applepackage because it's way more fantasy while Soarburn was based on reality, which probably isn't really needed much anymore since Starlight/Marionette are filling the present role of realistic takes on depression and body dysmorphia while the rest of the cast is doing all of the Alicorn stuff.

Mari turning down Alicorn powers makes her the best character written in the whole series and I honestly can’t think of a single other character who wouldn’t have taken the offer instantly. And the best part is Mari isn’t trying to be heroic about it, she’s just exhausted and she has the scars to show what chasing power does to someone. Earlier she was willing to let Starlight kill her in the abyss because she felt this new, powerless and burned version of herself was something Starlight grew to hate. Starlight is the only one who’s truly been on Mari’s side for most of her life and losing her would have confirmed Mari’s worst fear. If the one person who mattered most can turn on you, then what was any of it worth?Then there's the whole twilight stuff where Mari probably has no doubt that Twilight did hurt Starlight somehow, but Twilight is also family. Asking Starlight to let go of her fued isn't meant to help Starlight, it's her own selfish way of desperately trying keep them both because she can't bear the thought of losing someone else.
This episode has a lot of great oneliners in it, I love "nobody keeps real grenades in their ass" and "you look like you're smuggling two beachballs"

The two plotlines probably could have blended a bit better into each other buttfuck it, from a thematic standpoint it works. And I guess fem armor is her own being now which could be fun. Also, love me some Coco so im glad she got a good end.

Real talk I strongly believe Trixie and Mari are meant to be trans. Twilight found out at the end of DoTS and chose to accept Trixie anyway, while Starlight knows mari is a self-hating trans woman and chooses to plays with her dysphoria.
