I very much dislike modders with stupidly massive egos who pull moves like this. It's much more common than once would first think too. Whether they try to disable other mods (that wouldn't cause compatibility issues), have paid-only mods, or just any other issue. They need to have a good kick to put them back into the real world.

After the UT JailBreak games, I remembered that the original Killing Floor was also just a mod for UT2004, so I gave it a try to see how the mlp mods would interact with it, and it turns out they can carry over with some ini tweaks. If the resources aren't found in the kfmod directory, it actually falls back to the UT2004 resources, meaning hopefully clients should only need to download pony mods once for both games (updated third-person weapon animations would be an optional server download).
That image was in the kfmod code that prevented custom models being added to the menu and I got stuck, but now I've got a custom model menu mutator going that circumvents it, pushes a request to the server, and then the server force-sets the player pawn model/voice. The voicepacks work pretty well when binded.

Dunno if it'll be any good for a weekend game or halloween; I'm having fun just seeing how much pony I can put into it. You can download KFMod yourself here (or an older version): https://www.moddb.com/mods/killing-floor/downloads/kfmod-version-253
There's also custom maps in the addons tab there.
Linux users can run the game with the "-MOD=KFMod253" argument against their UT binary (if using proton, add that string to the launch options on the game in Steam). I've only tested it on the UT Steam version (with proton), doesn't run great with max settings with the D3D renderer so you may have to disable some effects.

It's a bit clunky, but it's free on top of the free UT2004 install. Limited but nice feeling guns (some don't have ADS), perks are simplistic (you can unlock veterancy in a match or two), zeds are fewer but more dangerous, more scavenging, one trader location, less memey, no microtransactions, a different atmosphere (with differences between version 1.0, 2.0, and 2.5), not limited to 6 players. Each default map has a heavily welded door where a trader location was in KF1. I don't know what's behind those yet.

Jokes aside i don't have much problems with archviles on singleplayer. Maybe everything just becomes fucked up with latency. These astral cacos were so jittery LOL. Maybe it would've been easier if we sticked together with disabled allyblock (i lost count of how many times i died because of rocket knockback or bodyblock) and actually started planning the ambushes based on what the map geometry and the nearby item pickups looked like. Oh and start using the cybers for actual infighting and only wake up the demons after figuring stuff out when possible. Not that i would've thought about any of that in-game. I had diarrhea of the mind last night.

I don't mind pubstompers. But if you are worried about one side always losing just make teams random (if that's what you mean by balance) so there will be more variety. If you play the game enough and lab the maps, maybe even adopt the quake posture, you will maybe become around as good as him so the skill point is kind of moot. I think you should just see if the players are having fun or not. Since we organize in some sort of pseudo-privs the better players could become captains for team coordination? Don't know. I think random teams are enough.

I will be hosting deathmatch this time because this last session there was only one anon (not counting myself) so i think it makes sense to pick the gamemode that can be played even 1vs1. Haven't decided on a wad yet but there's a lot of good deathmatch stuff both modern with freelook and oldschool (no freelook and items don't respawn, the one played competitively). I could even add a wad like metroid dreadnought to the mix for the cool samus aran wep/walljump gimmicks.

How about a bounty/marked-for-death mutator? The mutant gamemode has something like it, so I've tried something like that. Configurable threshold/multiplier, kills/total points, check team/ffa gamemode, etc. Players will get a radar and/or red vignette against the bounty. Ultimately up to rariflag to chuck in onto the server, no pressure or anything, really.

I wouldn't say I'd have it activated all the time, but in those sessions where I see that there is a certain difference in level (and few players, which is the factor that at the end of the day makes this obvious) I can activate it.
Perhaps the bounty could be the first player to have a difference of 5 kills over the second player?
And killing him could be worth double, that is, 2 points
And the bounty would cease to be a bounty when his lead is no longer 5 kills or until he dies (and if, upon respawning, his lead is still 5 or more, he would become a bounty again, but he would not cease to be a bounty until he died, even if, before being killed, he lost the advantage that made him a bounty in the first place)
But I'm not sure how it works or if the latter suggestion is possible or not, you're the expert!

If you want to change them, you can either create a separate sound pack and add the path to them in the config, replace the files and recompile the mutator using source, or add new files to the source directory and add the import line in BountyHunter/Classes/MutBountyHunter.uc and recompile.

Most of what you've mentioned is implemented, but I've compromised on these (play around with the settings):

I was on the other extreme end and thinking 10, but an in-between 7 seemed OK in my testing.

Went with the first because I thought the second was too harsh, and since in this version there can only be one bounty at a time, the player could have abused it to deny new bounties and go full hide-and-seek/defensive. My original implementation was to immediately cancel the bounty, but as an in-between the two options, I put in an expiry timer once the lead gap was closed, so players have a grace period to plan around whether to pursue or fallback.

Anyway, should balance things a smidge or be annoying as shit. Players can plan around the bounty by laying ambushes or avoiding conflict all together, and the marked player is rewarded with the thrill of being hunted (or the hunt if everyone is running away). Works similarly for team gamemodes, but it adds a twist to those that deal bonus points, such as CTF for example: when the player scores a flag, they usually get a bunch of extra points. This may immediately put a bounty on their head depending on the threshold. This should allow other players on the bounty's team to have a greater chance at the flag themselves, as the enemy team should be dog-piling the previous flag scorer/bounty.

There's also a concern that this'll just make the top two players suck each other off, but hopefully they'll be too distracted with one another. If this doesn't work, a new version that calculates the median score and allows for multiple bounties (a bounty board) could counter it, or worse, bounties will form a pseudo team. Regardless, this initial release should be simple enough and easy to understand (kill lead over X == bounty).

Update ahout airborne. Devs have made some changes to planes today after player push back, including giving planes more range by making fuel last a lot longer if you fly slower and increasing the ammout of materials that spawn at resource fields. Also AA guns are now 20mm instead of 12.7mm and they are gonna rework flakguns completely. The scout plane is also cheaper to make at 80 refined.

I think the most crucial thing to define would be not only the perfect position and size, but also whether to go for the pony versions or the EQG versions
I think the first option makes sense in terms of size, although that Sunset SheDemon with DoubleDamage is very cool
It would be cool if the player could choose between them more intuitively than by accessing the game console, but I think asking for that would be asking too much
Also, I assume this isn't based on your skin, but rather a default character that will remain there regardless of your skin, right?

It is, right now I've got them all mapped to the skin pack names (i.e. Sunset_Shimmer_FG will get sunset_alt sprite), and the winter skins with the pony portraits are mapped to pony sprites. Console is an override.

I think I can manage a popup at the top of the screen on player load that shows the image options of a pony, eqg, auto, and none (randomised pony, randomised eqg, auto to your skin, and Tom the rock for none). Like with UTComp, select them with the labeled F keys; fade after X seconds with default none or auto. No idea how to show the full list without an intrusive dedicated menu or weird nesting, and if that's the case, the console already has a list command for values to override with. Dunno.

Kek. I was thinking about adding custom mugshots once i'm done fixing the skins after my modding break. Was thinking about a dual-identity mugshot where both the rider and the mount have their faces separated maybe by a diagonal line that can move around depending on situation(?) but i don't know, never done that before. Yes, those file sizes are right. The mod is ~136.4MB but compressed down to 2.7MB, this is due to the gifs being converted to sprite sheet TGAs which are mostly transparent/a-lot-of-0, compresses heaps.

On spawn, your companion might not be who you want, and he may not want to stay in place. Only Flutterchads have a chance to trigger it by default, as they're biologically superior enough to tolerate him. Check the docs for all the info and if you want to disable him completely.
Another special companion is the changeling: on kill he will change into random characters with a transformation animation and reset on death.
I also included the alt forms in case anyone really wants to play as demon Shimmer, NMM, Angel, etc without it being tied to adrenaline/doubledamage.

And thanks for showing me Quake Champions: Doom Edition, never knew about it before and it ticked almost all my boxes (no ponies though yet). Never thought id classics, Gordon, Serious Sam, UT, and Postal Dude mashed together would be coherent along with their engine movement quirks, and fuck, that OST and those covers, I must have been living under a rock. In retrospect, yeah, that network performance was pretty solid. We were both in an EU server and had some pretty competitive duels. For mulp, I think I could whip up a System Shock elite cyborg warrior pony mount. You've already reserved Celestia for the Ranger, so I'll take Bulk Biceps.

I was thinking about for example moving the doomguy mugshot a little to the topleft, cropping his head a little and keeping a pony head (cropped from the mlponline sprites, the source for the skin pony sprites) on the bottom right. Haven't done anything yet, just ideas.

Was thinking about ponifying it but i should focus on finishing the stuff i started first. I have decided to rename truecolor to mulpgizmosvx_zan.wad for the next version because i have changed the items light colors (e.g. the apple now has a red light instead of blue). I changed the bfg ball and explosion light colors as well. Oh, if you want to try your hands on the qcde voxels, you can paint them with magicavoxel. I try to keep the silhouette for the replacements but you don't need to follow that rule.

Those are from the doom neondm wad for zandronum. It is meant to be played with freelook, jump and custom weps (eonweps).

The hitreg delay is pretty funny though. I've heard Q-zan is currently being debased into zandro so we might not need a fork for that wad anymore, or the net enhancements.

But can I suggest changes to the BountyHunter mutator?
It's something I noticed while playing in the last session: the "YOU ARE MARKED FOR DEATH" message is too big, to the point that it covers up "you killed xxx", which I consider relevant during gameplay.
The exact same thing happens when the bounty is another guy; the message with the bounty's name and lead also hides a considerable part of the screen, at least imo
Is there anything that can be done to fix this?
Maybe make them just a little smaller or something?
Or am I complaining about something that isn't that important in the end?
I know it's awkward to ask for things in the same post where I congratulate you on your work, especially since you just sent another version of the mutator that I'm asking you to modify lol
I don't know what the other guys think, but I'd appreciate it if you could look into that.

Jokes aside, you can bait the dude at a distance that outranges the ssg kill range then kill him while he reloads. It's what i usually do when i'm not busy whiffing my shots.

Oh yeah, i should add that straferun is a super strong tool in doom. It's not like quake where you need to acell first. sr50 gives you 141% of your usual speed for reference that's like going from 0 to 850 ups in a single circlejump in quake, except you get there almost instantly. The only problem is that there's some kind of friction when you change directions that might make you an easier target. You can actually do something about that friction but it's map dependent. Basically when theres a thing (any actors, like map props, monsters, other players) you can thingbounce after strafing toward that thing. The engine will bounce you to the opposite direction and you can basically change directions instantly. There's a more advanced tech called vertex bounce where you use the map geometry vertex to bounce and it kicks you even faster to the other side but it's harder to execute because vertices are very tiny compared to things. But dm players don't really use these things all that much they just become insanely good at straferunning in a way that they can flick their mouses instantly to check corners and also to change directions ofc. I thought I gamed the system pretty well on that one map where you were being a couple of SSG fags orbiting each other and I started peppering you both with the chain gun from afar. There just seems to be very few maps with longer ranges where you can counter the SSGtards.

Yeah, those maps were small, most of them. They were designed for 1-4 players with the obvious gimmick of running to the bfg. The chaingun can still work, but only in situations where you can't risk a ssg longrange shot (rng based spray). They aren't bad maps, but it's very gimmicky. doom wads, even for the same gamemode, can feel extremely different depending on the mapper habits and vision.

Been playing it with friends. Those are probably getting nerfed somehow. I like the new whips and the new summoner specific modifiers, they make the class a lot better early on. Pylon changes are good.

I got too greedy with Jera as Tainted Lost in a really good run. I had the card + holy mantle card combo for easy mode but I dropped the card in hopes I would get 8 items instead of 4 in the chest. Greed is pain.
