I've been watching ponies as sorta background filler and decided to try some of the Gen 5 episodes... Is Gen 5 supposed to be so... shit? One of the most disappointingly abandoned concepts from G4 has to be the draconequi. The idea that Discord, for how strong he is, compared to the rest of the creatures in the show, isn't even a one of is interesting, yet we never see another draconequus in the show and we know next to nothing about the species, not even what their name means. Like, yes, equus = horse, because they have horse heads, but where does the draco come from? Can't be the few dragon body parts Discord has because the only explanation we get about them is that their body parts other than the head are all random. I know the meta reason is that Lauren was initially going to make Discord a horse/dragon hybrid and this was eventually scrapped, but it still doesn't make sense in the show. They did expand their lore a tiny bit more in the IDW comic and even introduced more draconequi, but those are very much non-canon to the show.

Yet Ponies will even get agressive and insulting against dragons and even tresspass their territory. Though to be fair the dragons were also only superficially explored.
