For many months now I have sought to partake in popen redeliverance with only the utmost pragmatic discernment of entrenched interactions socially. It's quite an interesting undertaking to dissect the behaviors associated with the formerly maladjusted and otherwise rather antistagnant focused individuals.

I really wanna to try Sky's viewer but I remember viewers with back doors and shit. Besides compiling it myself or running it in a vm, what can I do?
>>
>>43612467
>t. uses Windows anyway
>>
>>43612444
He needs a Snickers bar.
>>
>>43612467
Compiling it yourself won't matter because sky wrote the code and sky will give you the binary. Compiling only helps when you trust the viewer devs but don't trust wherever you're downloading from.
Using it in a VM (or container) will definitely help in case it tries to botnet your entire PC. But of course any time you run a viewer you give it control of your SL account, so that's one thing you can never protect against. I guess don't run it in an account where you're storing millions of L$.

Practically speaking Sky is running two empty sims for no reason so I don't think he'll care about emptying your wallet anyway, and he seems autistically hyper-fixated and most likely cares more about people giving him attention for his viewer than on what he could gain from botnetting your PC at the cost of his entire reputation.
>>
>>43612399
>>43612420
First part was only 3 legs. Did you do the second part as well? If not, IMO not worth it, the prize was an olympic motors golf cart. The plane from part 1 was nice, though. Also, nice shots!
>>
>>43612499
It's not about the money, it's about a third party having access to personal information.
>>
Do reasonably sized penis horses exist or os every stallion here a 5legger
>>
>>43612635
Yeah then just run it in a VM, the only personal information he'll have is your SL data.
If you're really paranoid don't use it for spicy IMs either. But frankly assuming he releases his code, it's so easy nowadays to go "@clod look at this repository and tell me if it's stealing my IM chats" (and it's really quite good at finding bugs especially when you give it a specific target to look for, so this would be nearly guaranteed to work), that it's extremely unlikely he would ever do that if he wanted any chance of actually getting credibility.
>>
>>43612467
I use a self-compiled version on Windows after going through and looking for any kind of keyloggers and backdoors created after the point where he forked Alchemy.
Didn't find anything except a "Bridge" attachment that is utilized for his pose studio setup. It broadcasts any poses you have available for others to use.

It's most likely safe, and does appear to do what it says. If you're still paranoid, change your password to something unique before using it.
>>
>>43612641
not a stallion but i have a reasonably sized penis.
>>
>>43612648
>>43612642
Appreciate the info. I'll try it.
>>
>>43612648
>If you're still paranoid, change your password to something unique before using it.
Retarded advice, if you're paranoid then just make a fresh alt account that doesn't have access to your main's inventory and everything else.

If your password is already not unique on firestorm then clearly you don't care anyway. There's no reason to trust Scentual Lust the skunk more than Sky Line, if you're worried about viewers stealing your password. Plus a rogue firestorm dev could get probably tens of thousands of passwords instantly and immediately launder the money, then FS just goes "oh noes we had a rogue dev he's gone now so it's safe again", while Skyline would just get like half a dozen passwords from baltimare autists and tank his reputation and his viewer for eternity.
>>
>>43612746
>There's no reason to trust Scentual Lust the skunk more than Sky Line
Nta but Sky Line knows us personally and the mlp community is small. Different stakes.
>>
>>43612770
I agree, my point was that if you're using the same password everyone it doesn't matter anyway. In fact if you use the same password in SL as in other places you should probably change it right the fuck now.

Then if you don't trust sky line, like I said, you can create an alt account just for his viewer. But "changing your password before using skyline's viewer" is basically placebo.

Question for the DJs / broadcasting popens:

How long is the latency between what you're hearing on your PC vs what the crowd is hearing?
Back when I cared about internet radio I think it was around 30 seconds. Is it still that long or could it be reduced to lets say 5 seconds?

Wouldn't you want to kick someone around if this is what you saw in Ponyville? I get that this furfag likely has no idea what Ponyville is and that their trick or treating event is about as wholesome as something can get in SL, but God can you not see it's a G rated sim and just put on a blank pony avatar or anything other than your fetish gear? Even just a generic, clothed SL human would be an upgrade from this. God I hate furries so much it's unreal.

It might be just you, but now I'm curious. How does this place make you feel? It's an ancient build made entirely of prims.
>>
>>43625842
How the dome at the top of the tower looks like from the inside. The only things inside that aren't made of prims are the 3D bedroom painting and the popen.
>>
>>43625842
that looks okay, just the simple old 3d style.
back when i joined sl years ago with no "guide" or community help the first couple sims i ended up in were decrepit and really weird. many of them were an incomplete mess with stretched textures, structures hanging in mid sky because their supporting buildings were removed. pictures of deceased people. failing scripts everywhere that kept nagging me with error messages. random tp attempts. looping background music with missing parts so it kept dropping in and out sometimes with minutes of silence in between. monumental arch ways that lead to literally nowhere. I could keep going on.
the whole "liminal space" that new generations are now discovering has existed in sl for decades i guess and i am kinda surprised they haven't caught on this yet at least it looks like the mainstream completely ignores sl now despite it being le backroom paradise.
>>
>>43625842
>>43625861
>prim buildings
Have their own unique charm. I also like how ponies kinda lead to a resurgence of prim buildings because many ponies have no experience in 3D software and the whole mumbojambo getting shit imported so they build their buildings and decoration for their parcels inside SL with prims. Bought items can look nice together of course. You don't build your RL home from scratch either but completely self-made SL homes do have my respect and adoration.
>>
Is your pony "you" or is it merely the pony you remote control?
>>
>>43626252
Same question as "is you body you or merely a meat suit being controlled by a brain" - so, there's no good answer and it depends on your own feelings sometimes. Personally, the pony is me and I feel about the same about the... thing... at the controls as most normal people probably do about their brain. That is, it's necessary for the whole thing to work, but it's not "me" and I'd rather not think about it most of the time.

Now, let's say, hypothetically, that I wanted to get permabanned from SL. What would be the most based way of getting LL to permaban me?
Please note that saying slurs only gets you a tempban, which wouldn't be enough in this hypothetical scenario.
>>
ai just told me that blending between two animations on the same skeleton/bones will most likely never come to sl.

>>
>>43628552
If they find out you do moneylaundering on SL you will get the biggest swollen throbbing banhammer.
>>
>>43628554
I didn't need AI to tell me that, I can already tell that's the case from just playing the game for long enough and seeing how the developers (don't) work on the game
I just accept it as yet another thing on the big list of SL's limitations that will never get fixed because the devs just can't be arsed to understand their own software
>>
>>43628585
well to me it says that it's not even necessarily a linden lab only issue but rather that it would be tough to run. its argument is that in other games most animations are prebaked and in sl there could be 100+ avatars each running multiple animations completely unpredictably controlled by dozens of scripts and with the current architecture this is working fine but once actual blending gets puts into the mix it would be computationally way too expensive.
I'm not sure if that's true or if ai is trying to bullshit me here

Wander the maneland and leave megaprims (larger than the 64m max size) with horsepussy as the texture in every rezzable area you can find

>>
>>43633414
The tricky part of the route was an up and down dive at the ending because quite frankly, it was a very unfun part of the course and instead of doing it properly thru the alley everyone just avoided it entirely by flying over the roofs, slamming down to tag checkpoint 11 then flying back up to do the same thing with 12.

You could also gain extra time by drifting into 7 so you were already in a straight line towards 8 but honestly, the whole time thing felt very arbritrary and I never felt like I could personally reproduce my own pb consistently let alone the top times which were a whole second ahead.

Umbra got a 19s the day of the race which was ahead of 2nd place on leaderboard by half a second, and later got a low 20.xx run on their last lap during race, which was impressive considering all the sim and fps lag the dozens of ponies brought.

Everyone ended up more or less where they were on the leaderboards prior to the race, including Umbra. Off the top of my head Umbra was 1st on leaderboard and 1st during race, Acura was 3rd on leaderboard and 3rd during race, Nixxy was 4th on leaderboard and 5th during race, so there really wasn't anything odd that stood out between leaderboards and race day imo.

>>
>>43633927
>mysterious
Not mysterious, no. Advanced mode on the flight HUD uses a more realistic physics calculation. In short, there are two principles in play, here. One is converting altitude to speed, and the other is learning that the mouselook camera is disjointed from your actual center of mass, which means if you turn sharper, sooner, then correct, your momentum will carry you better through turns (including leveling off after a dive).
>>
To the anon crying about cheating.

Ah yes just completely deflect from the issue at hand
Nopony said anything about speeding up on dives or turning lmao there are several points where it just sharply accelerates for no reason

I really don't get why you're just doubling down
>>
Frankly I think my main takeaway here is that cp11 was just really bad. In an event about precision flying, having to either totally kill your momentum OR do insane dolphin dives that risk hitting one of dozens of sharp roof corners sticking out and killing your run, ends up being mostly a grind for a pixel perfect last checkpoint that keeps perfect speed and not an exercise in actual momentum management and flying skills.
Surely there must be a better way to add challenge that differentiates skilled fliers; I wonder if something like a narrow-ish tunnel requiring precision entry would be fun. For a while I thought cp6 required perfectly aiming for that garden archway, that could've been fun if it wasn't phantom.

I really hope we get more events like this because 90% of the course was insanely fun (91.6% to be precise), but I also really hope we don't get any more checkpoints like cp11.

My guy in the first four seconds they angle up and start accelerating while climbing for a moment before they even start the first dive
then like two seconds later the momentum from the dive has been incorporated into the horizontal already and they angle the mouse up and accelerate forwards and up considerably

If you think that's dumb, look at this run I did earlier in the week:
https://files.catbox.moe/eerhhv.webm

Turns out, you CAN make the turn into the alley, it just sucks.
>>
>>43634144
I watched the video multiple times and I just don't see it. They're speeding up at the start of the video because they just did a slow climb and turn at 3:26 of the 4m long video and are now getting back up to cruising speed.

I never saw any weird speed up and I practiced the course a bunch. In fact, I can tell their time save was indeed on 7 to 8 and 11 to 12 as I previously mentioned >>43633638 before they even posted the video.

In fact their 10 to 11 was quite slow, and you can go over the roof entirely to slam down on 11, which they didn't, but then they gained time from 11 to 12 by not flying up as high before slamming down, instead skimming just over the roof instead.
I wish I still had my own flight recordings but it is what it is.
>>
>>43634229
I actually think I saved time on 10-11 because I rode the speed from the dive down to 10 for longer instead of burning it immediately and used it to slingshot me over and down faster.

>>
>>43633905
>>43633913
I'm late to the party, but I need to add to it because in the recording you're operating with completely impossible physics that don't match with what others have experienced. The sideways inertia that's normally preserved while turning is almost completely gone and what remains of it in your recording is negligible, and any speed loss that every other flyer faced during the sharper turns barely exists on your end which allows you to continue unmolested by physics. The jittery mouse corrections you do instantly triggers correction in your flight even though your momentum is supposed to be carried over longer. Any pony who's actually flown considerably on that course should be able to tell that whatever sideways inertia you should've normally preserved are somehow being redirected to exactly where your mouselook is pointed at.
>3
You cut through the tree even though with that angle the inertia is supposed to carry you past its trunk. There are ponies who have turned sharper, smoother, and even earlier than you and yet none of them could cut through the tree before the trunk WHILE maintaining that forward velocity. There's even a run on the HQ recording where you don't even come near the tree and instantly snap forward with the same speed.
>7
You turn sharp right, which would normally push you into a reasonable spline towards 8, but what you have going on oversteers you right so hard that you have to correct left multiple times on multiple runs. At 0:47 on >>43633913 it even stops mid-inertia, and pushes you forward exactly where you are looking with no loss or negligible loss in speed, while on >>43633905 you went so far right you had to correct left so hard that you came through 8 with a shallow angle.

1/2
>>
>>43634383
>10-12
Ponies go through them by leading their mice, predicting and turning early before you even reach the point where you can see where you're supposed to go. You do none of that and your velocity guides you where are you pointing right through even though it should've carried you away at a worse angle that would've lost you time. Your turns should look like splines but they're all bezier curves as all the momentum you're supposed to carry are being pushed towards where you're looking. And on top of that you still maintain all the speed through 11-12 even though a sharp turn as such should immediately void your velocity. You simply DON'T climb and dive and maintain all that speed with those camera movements.
>>43634226
Legit early run here. What made you decide between then and now that you had to cheat? Your turn at 3, and 10-11 were wide in order to preserve velocity or get you where you need to be, compare that to literally anything from your other runs. All of that inertia and momentum is now gone and you magically preserve the speed while holding impossibly sharp turns.
>B-but but what if
There have been popens in Ponyville running test runs for several days after the event. It is legitimately impossible to replicate Umbra's run because the flight system simply doesn't work like that. Arclight has a recording somewhere of her PB run and it looks nothing like what Umbra's shown. I didn't save it but I'm sure somepony else has.

2/2
>>
>>43634260
Thats not cheating, just a reproduceable bug with the flight system that will happen with everyone using it, including (You), where if you press both the W and E key at the same time (which you will, because these are the only 2 keys that matter for momentum), you will accelerate a random amount for a brief moment.
https://ponut.party/adept-affectionate-armednylonshrimp.mp4
It only really happens when you're going slow because it's very brief, it's too unreliable to be done intentionally without being extremely obvious and Umbra could've gotten much more speed by simply divebombing into the starting line (which Ruby did allow btw)
>>43634316
Maybe if you were posting actual arguments instead of acting like a virtual nigger, they might.
>>
>>43634383
>>43634390

>>
>>43634398
I'm sorry you're too retarded to understand something that everybody else who uses the flight system understands, anon. I hope you get better one day, maybe even develop the ability to come up with any arguments or counterpoints.
>>
>>43634383
>>43634390
It look me literal hours of nothing but testing why the dive bomb from 10-11 has you pick up so much speed when by all logic it should bleed you to basically a stop. Playing around with it, as best I could tell, the easiest way to reproduce it is to dive, then nose up and turn at the same time. You get a much smaller boost from just diving then nosing up, which is what I use to get a lot of my speed boosts on every dive that I could.

Look at how I move my cam when I start the 10-11 dive bomb. That movement is what gets you the acceleration. I'm not just pointing up, then down, I'm moving it in a spiral. This is what clued me into the fact that the cam is disjointed from your body and center of mass. Imagine it like your body is tied to a string attached to your cam.

I'm overturning to swing my body around more while keeping momentum. The tl;dr of it is because of the disjoint in cam vs body, if you just point where you want to go and that's it, you need to bleed speed inefficiently to "drag" your body behind you to complete the turn. You're drifting so much because you're still moving sideways. To fix this, the overturn applies more acceleration toward the center of your circle, making the turn tighter, and pre-correcting your existing speed so when you correct your orientation, your momentum is already going the right direction, so you don't have to fight it. You're swinging your body around, and because your cam isn't actually where your body's center of mass is, if you just point straight ahead, you're not actually completing your turns.

Earlier video was from days earlier in the week. I basically no-lifed that course most days, and had more time running it than most people did.

I can legitimately teach you how it works, if you actually want to learn how and aren't just trying to stir shit.

>>43634396
Not a bug, just me flying back from 3. I didn't use anything but forward and accelerate.
>>
>>43634586
Forward and accelerate are what causes it, you don't need to use anything, it happens on its own occasionally at low speeds and bumps you up to the cruising speed cap, you can just exarcebate it to ridiculous levels with a macro. It's also irrelevant because it's pre-start anyways.
>>
>>43634647
Oh right, some people have E as their jump key, eurgh. I don't think it's a bug, actually. There's definitely more to it than just press forward and accelerate. It's the same effect that I get in the video off each dive, but I'm doing those just with cam movement while holding both down, rather than what I was doing to get it before, which was letting go of accelerate just before hitting my lowest point then hitting it again after tilting cam up. More consistent than what I was doing before, too.
>>
>>43634586
I'm sorry, but you're bullshitting. You're explaining the same basic concepts that everyone else has already nailed, and then going off on a depthless explanation that only serves to try and convince the people that don't know shit about the flight system that you know what you're doing, when you could instead take the L and admit that you cheated.
>Look at how I move my cam when I start the 10-11 dive bomb. That movement is what gets you the acceleration.
No, it doesn't. There's no "movement" involved, you're using the flight system with an altered level of responsiveness that cancels out the actual physics part of the physics-based advanced mode. If you were using an unaltered flight system, you would've wound up too late to even get through the alley in the first place, and even if by some miracle you did you would then hit the ground.
>I'm not just pointing up, then down, I'm moving it in a spiral.
Is the spiral in the same room as us? You can say you just go up and then also right, as does literally everybody else, and we don't fling up like your half-assed attempt at cheating does.
>I'm overturning to swing my body around more while keeping momentum.
Do you think no one else is doing the same thing? You can't spout an entire paragraph of the most basic shit with overcompensating verbosity as if it was some grand reveal and act like that's what made you win. And you can't just say "while keeping momentum" because that momentum is going somewhere, and it's not straight towards where you are looking. The horizontal inertia you have to bleed off needs to go somewhere but yours just get reapplied forward. You talk like everypony else is stupid and is trying to play snake while you are not, you're just inventing a verbose over-explanation of "lead your turns" because you're not capable of explaining why your flight physics are different from ours. None of what you said can even remotely explain the difference in physics between everypony else and your earlier recording, and your latest runs.
>I basically no-lifed that course most days, and had more time running it than most people did.
And once again, is it because nobody else did? There have been people battling for podium since day 1 of the course daily for many hours at a time, chipping at each other with gradual improvements of less than a second nearly daily until it plateau'd on the second to last day, and you mean to tell everyone involved that you suddenly went from some higher 21 seconds to 19 seconds thirty minutes before the event started after being absent for the day? Nothing in what you're saying explains why your flight system flies differently than ours, why you can make inertia-cancelling turns without losing speed with the same mouse movement as everypony else.
>>
>>43634823
So it's been brought to my attention that you probably are having a hard time reading my movements because I use a high FoV that I'm used to playing hoofball on. I am leading my turns like everyone else. I am drifting like everyone else. I'm also taking wider turns than others do. I take 3 from the far side of the bridge and turn into the underside, which drifts me around the corner, and I keep turning my cam through the turn. On 7, you can see me look left before I look right so I take the corner a little wider and swing myself around more drastically. I still drift. I just counteract it with more exaggerated turns.

And like I said, I was always within the top 5-10 all week, doing the same improvements. When I said I no-lifed the course, I don't mean I spent a few hours every day, I mean I spent upwards of 12 hours on it a number of days. I also didn't skip the last day before the race. I kept at the course late, late into the night, much later than I should have, actually.

And I am genuinely offering to teach you how it works, mare to mare, for the record.

Wow, even slightly below 256 kb. Insane.

Kind of a tip (though I haven't specifically done animations in Blender yet, but I know CS concepts), I think you are also limited by the duration of the animation being 60 secs, too. But anyway, the thing adding up data in the animation file is just keyframes. It's not the "animation speed", cause that would just be a value. Maybe try reducing the amount of keyframes by like 1/8th or 1/16, then mess with the animation speed/FPS, letting some keyframes naturally interpolate/tween themselves between each other and you might still have something that looks fine. Like, uhhh... how big is your animation file already?
>>
>>43633317
your video literally proves you cheated nigger, the turns you made are impossible and would lose you all your momentum, resulting in you getting at BEST 25s~ run, but you somehow, magically, after not changing your record or being seen training in ponyville for the past three days, bring down your record from 21.60s~ to 19.84s~ on your FIRST try 30 minutes before the race

No. No it wasn't and anyone who has ever gotten below 23s~ in the race or participated in any sort of speedrunning would understand the tinniest nuance that goes into cutting off every millisecond from the run to even reach the 20s mark, it needs unbelievable amounts of precision that you can only get from experience of playing the course over and over again for hours at the time, even a few degrees of turning more than you should could lose you too much speed setting you back an entire half a second, but, despite those details, you somehow, like a stupid retarded troglodyte, post a video of you comitting every single one of those mistakes, with movement thats too fast and crisp, able to instantenously respond to slightest mouseview movements as if an outside force is pushing you in the direction you're looking at, and the ability to not lose speed at all when doing extremely sharp rookie turns, which is egragious in the eyes of anyone who has invested some time in the course.
but thats not the worst! your explanation for why you magically got TWO best records in a span of less than an hour despite being stuck on the 21.5s~ mark and not been seen on the course for days, is even more unbelievably stupid!!! it seems that every participant was doing it wrong! we werent divebombing our pegas to maintain speed (????), its all about leaning into your turn so you dont lose speed! its obvious! (???????) you like, have to totally put some force in your mouse movement, thats how i stayed fast (????????????). it was quite hilarious seeing you pull out these esoteric explanations out of your ass as if anyone would take them seriously instead of treating you as a deformed, barely functional, retarded child.
not to mention the fact that somepony replicated the script you used and achieved the same results on video, while also recording the exact movements you made without the script, failing miserably, watching them back to back is obvious proof enough for anyone, and the only reason you got away with it is because no one, especially the host of the event, wanted to start shit over a tiny fun event that you decided to ruin for everypony involved
you're especially low iq if you think most of the ponies involved think you played fair, but i guess abusing your friends trust about it would feed your ego enough for that

I watched both Umbra's video and yours with the script side by side, and the only part that actually matches is 7 to 8. There's a lot of fluidity from 9 to 10 and you can see the slingshot effect from the flight hud, while yours feels like it's just a constant push from behind.
2 to 3, 3 to 4, 5 to 6 and 10 to 11, 12 are specially egregious because it looks completely mechanical while theirs is a lot more natural.

If Umbra used a script, it most certainly wasn't the one displayed in the video.

lmao, made up nonsense by the deranged
also i like how you completely ignore the fact that the movement in both of the vids is literally impossible without the use of a script, entirely unnatural, but felt the need to lie about umbras run being somehow natural, despite a video replicating exact same moves without a script showing the contrary
i guess the baseline measurement for what looks natural is umbra doing the run... weird huh...
>>
>>43635792
Anon, everyone who disagrees with you isn't Umbra. You're fighting ghosts.
>>
>>43635792
I'm not Umbra and I just don't see it, dude. I'm sorry.
Everything I saw in their video is just things I was doing myself throughout the whole week, I just couldn't do it all in one go to get a good time and choked during the race.

If Umbra did cheat, it wasn't with that method in the video you posted, that's all. You could argue maybe they had it on toggle and only used during turns, but at that point it starts getting schizo
>>
>>43635803
still not addressing the video without the script replicating all those moves, also, what was your time if you did the EXACT same things as umbra? (something umbra quoted as hidden mechanics she found out after hours of practice which no other pony that got 20s mark replicated or figured out despite the effort they put in) because every single pony that got 20s mark entirely agree that she did cheat
>>
>>43635815
Arclight, that you?
>>
>>43635815
Low 21.xx. I could never break the top 3 myself, kept choking on 10-11-12 which I blame on ping.
Your video without the script is disingenuous honestly, your turn into 2 for example is super late, and the turn in Umbra's video is something I was doing myself consistently.

All Second Life movement is server side, meaning that someone with a higher ping (such as me) actually has to turn earlier, while someone closer to the Oregon AWS has a less drifty feeling flight system, simply because it reacts faster. The system is the same, but the input delay causes a huge difference.
>>

Crazy to think that SL would not allow a 17s animation if it's above 250 kb. I mean honestly, people shouldn't be using the internet at less than 20 mbps download these days. I mean even 4 MB would be 10 times more reasonable. I would still make it even higher.

And yeah, also the fact that they don't allow 44.1 KHz audio (yeah I know, separate issue) is pretty dumb. I get the whole reasoning be hind restricting the duration and keeping it mono at least.
>>
>>43635764
>>43635820
No, I just woke up. Thanks for the blame game nonetheless.
>>
>>43635841
so despite never breaching 20s mark, and doing exact things that umbra did, the same tiny mistakes, that lose you milliseconds of time, you pretend that your time somehow validates, instead of invalidating umbras run?
and its not my run, talk about ghosts lmao, its just a video that arclight shared (i could show henneseys run with it but its less consistent with umbras turns), anyway its disingenuous to say that, despite umbra doing the turn really late, its the same run you would do (which i mean you probably do, given you're losing speed doing it so drastically, hence why you were stuck at 21.xx) when in practice you HAVE to do it a lot earlier and slowly curve it to maintain as much of the momentum as possible, instead of doing it ludicrously fast and late
and no, ping barely affects how much momentum you lose, quite frankly a ludicrous suggestion
>>
>>43635853
did you at least end up recording those videos?
>>
>>43635860
And then some. I've probably about several hours' worth of continuous recording with and without the vibecoded script that I ran tests in Ponyville with. For a few days after the event I pretty much spent all my time in Ponyville trying to get a better time and then trying to replicate their line and then trying to understand why it couldn't and how it could, which led to the makeshift script.
>>
>>43635858
I never said ping affects momentum, just said it will affect how you perceive the video since the higher the ping the earlier they gotta turn, which might make it seem like they're doing sharp turns into walls when in fact they're not.
I'm just saying there's other reasons why it might look like cheating that don't actually involve cheating.

If your ping is too different from someone you simply cannot replicate their flight path from their pov because, as I said, second life movement is server side. You can easily test this by having an american and an european do a simple cone zig zag while running and recording, and you will see the difference yourself.
>>
>Arclight has a recording somewhere of her PB run and it looks nothing like what Umbra's shown
https://u.pone.rs/ftxmnyuo.mp4

>>43635879
Ping frankly seems trivial at best, I had the chance to see some Americans' laps through recordings and none it ever really matched the speedy point-and-go aspect of Butterfly's run throughout. I still think that level of swiftness in turning is unachievable without some exterior tool or script thing however.
>>
>>43635879
i dont think you understand what you're talking about, or rather you dont understand the fact that turning too fast, which is a problem regardless of ping, is the problem here, given it should realistically make umbra lose speed, but somehow it does not
its not about her being able to do those turns, ANYONE can turn like that, the problem is that she doesnt lose speed while doing them, is that really so hard to get? as an example, you'd need to start turning right before you reach the second bridge to maintain speed as much as possible, instead of doing it in the middle of it when you've already hit the 3rd checkpoint, because the resulting turn would be too fast, which would result in a loss of speed
AND yes, ping would not affect that, it would only affect when you start turning for that by your logic, while the resulting turn would stay the same

>>
>>43634396
This is an issue with lag compensation somehow. It happens more often on laggy connections or slower sims with lots of avatars and complex environments (like baltimare).
If it happens at the perfect time it can be incredibly powerful but it's also almost impossible to control and it's pretty random. As you noticed it happens more often at low speeds, I'm guessing it's because the hud applies forces to your avatar to accelerate and so if there's a lag spike the sim server might overcompensate by summing up all the force applied while it was lagging all at once, while maybe when you're already fast the hud doesn't strongly apply forces unless you're turning/accelerating? Just spitballing here though. Anyway it's nearly impossible to use intentionally in a run, and what Umbra's doing looks a lot more controlled than that bug.
>>
>>43635947
This and anypony saying it's all because BF was just able to "string together perfect sectors into a whole run" is kidding themselves.

After the event, we actually had sector times from the individual checkpoints. No matter what I did, I would lose about a second in time from 3-8 (cutting out all the variability from before and crucially all the variability from the tricky 10-12).

You can try to do the 180 degree turns smoothly (not like BF's run) and maintain as much speed as possible. Or, you can try to flick your camera straight from 3 onto 4 and 7 onto 8. You'll quickly find the latter is *slower* because, for anyone not cheating, it will bleed off so much more speed that you lose time on the following straights.

But yes, sure. Popens can go from high 21s down to sub 20s over night. In an unreproducible manner. At a point where everypony is scraping for tenths at best.

Just wanna weigh in saying that being OVERLY autistic/competitive in fucking Second Life is like slapping a huge "I'm a retard" sign on your forehead.
Second Life is probably THE virtual world with the wonkiest fucking physics, random lags and overall irregularities. Even with absolutely no cheating fuckery involved it could either turn you into a winner or permanently actively fight against you simply because it's a wonky ass pile of literal decades old noodle code propped up by bandaid fixes. In most cases of "skill" competitions in SL the biggest part is simply luck.
If you absolutely need your competition thrills then just drag others into other games where that is actually RELIABLY possible.

In SL, the only way to enjoy these types of competitions is by getting your enjoyment out of the whole event itself. Taking part, seeing the ponies do stuff, the silly stuff happening all around them. If winning is literally the only thing that makes you happy then oh boy will SL fuck with your psyche/autism.
If you win it should be a bonus, not the only thing to enjoy about those events. If you catch someone cheating, push their shit in a bit and move on after that. If they keep pulling shit, roll your eyes and don't let it ruin your day. Also, if you legitimately keep losing it shouldn't really matter anyway if, again, you just enjoy doing stuff together with ponies.

Tapping into the sound deficiencies of Second Life is actually a really clever move. In that area SL is lacking so fucking hard with seemingly "simple" things. If he can pull off somehow introducing simple sound pitching capabilities (scripts controlling the pitch of the sample currently being played or LOOPED - for example for engine noises) it would really impress me.
>>
>>43637805
There's likely some limitations due to lack of server support, but he's also already added a bridge that allows posers to work across Slipstream instances without server support. So it might well be possible.
The fact that it might be viewer-locked may even be an advantage here as more people are motivated to switch to not just use the features, but see/hear them too. Normally it sounds like a scummy vendor locking feature but here it may likely be literally necessary.

Sound in SL is like a vast field that is still nearly completely untilled and could relatively quickly grow so many tasty fruits.

But yeah, SL's wind is garbage because it just makes flexiprims bend in one direction. If it whipped around and created small moment-to-moment variations then it might actually be useful. As it stands you can't even use it sensibly for flags, the one thing you might want to use it for.

Not him and I 100% understand your point, kinda feel the same but overall have mixed feelings.
Fact is, LL's priorities are completely elsewhere and apparently they also let go one of their most productive devs so it feels like literally nothing has been happening at LL for the past 2 years or so after a really short period of huge rapid succession improvements.
On the viewer side of things there have been quite some improvements but it seems like no one really tried new things.

While I support yours and (in part) my view that fragmenting the crowd in one side seeing/experiencing things that the other side can't is fucking horrible on the other side I really really want to have someone kinda kicking those other's butts delivering features people have been begging for for YEARS even in hacky ways to make a point.
How many times have you've seen feature requests that got massive uboats by big crowds that just got completely forgotten by LL after dropping the usual copy&paste message by one of their jannies?

A great example would be the gamepad support.
It was 99% ready, they put the feature tag to "In Progress" and suddenly for whatever reason (probably because mobile viewer is more important) LL shifted focus AGAIN and degraded the tag back to "Planned" and forgot about it. It seems like fuck all is happening at LL as if they're just back to coasting on their last remaining boomer bucks AGAIN and people are fucking sick of that shit after witnessing years of that in the 2010s.

So yeah, I don't like the idea of viewers having too differing experiences which has the potential to fuck with the community experience ("did you see that?" "what do you mean? sorry I'm not using viewer x, I'm on y!") but I DO like the idea of a viewer showcasing what could be possible and potentially making enough people jump on it so LL MAY finally get the idea and standardize the features finally.

This sums up my feelings well. Sky or whoever else might create the most deluxe, amazing, feature-packed, revolutionary SL viewer ever, but the experience of using it will ultimately be largely defined by SL itself, and its server-side features, performance and shortcomings. No matter how polished a viewer can get, at the end of the day the viewer will always be polishing a turd.
>>
>>43638991
Exactly and my hope is that this viewer might get things rolling when more people try it and then really don't want to miss those features again.
I hope Sky is fine with other viewers eventually implementing features he put in first. The end goal should be LL getting that stuff officially in with no hacky workarounds so everyone can have the same experience again but with features that were missing for decades
>>
>>43639057
Considering RLV still isn't part of the main viewer, I really do not think this is the path forward
>>
>>43638741
>I am begging you not to create a bunch of stuff that relies wholly on the viewer to create a user experience.
The thing is there are features that are basically impossible to add cross-viewer without, again, direct support from LL for it. Without LL adding server-side weather for example, it can only ever be something the viewer adds on its own.
But what the viewer can do is interface through its LSL bridge to share some measure of information with other viewers, outside of the standard LL protocol.

So, while normally I hate vendor lock-in, in this case pioneering your own protocols to add features independently of LL is the only possible way most of those features could ever be added at all. The choice is not "lock the weather feature to slipstream vs. make it work everywhere", the choice is "don't add a weather feature, or make a local-only weather feature for photos, or let slipstream viewers share settings so you can at least share your weather with other people using the same viewer".

It's basically the exact same thing as the poser, actually. Without this bridge integration, weather would also be purely a photo feature. The entire reason you think of posers as a photo feature is actually exactly because existing viewers keep it local-only. In reality shared posting would be super fucking useful for cuddles for example, and SS adding it to its LSL bridge makes this a reality now, exclusively for SS viewers.

The other thing is that if the protocol is well specified, it's not "locked" to SS, since other viewers could theoretically add support too if they wanted. In fact this is exactly how RLV works: one autist added bondage features to his viewer using a custom script protocol, and now almost every viewer implements the same features, with zero support from LL themselves or sim servers.
So it's not so much viewer-exclusive features, as it's just new features that the standard viewer doesn't support yet. And I'd rather have them in SS now, and maybe later in FS and everywhere else or maybe not who knows, than just not have them at all ever. Because LL is definitely not adding anything good any time soon, so just adding stuff in the viewer is literally the only option we have.
>>
>>43639065
Almost nobody cares about or uses the standard viewer. If anything Firestorm, and maybe Alchemy, are the only two viewers worth caring about.

And I don't know about you but I think RLV existing is very nice (at least for the people who want to use it), and "oh LL would never add that feature to their servers so it's a failure" simply doesn't make sense to me as an argument. I can play SL and I can use RLV, reliably, and other ponies can also use RLV and we can interface with each other. It works. It doesn't matter to me that OFFICIALLY it doesn't exist and the servers don't support it and it's akshually just a viewer-side feature; it literally doesn't change anything about how I, as a user, use or enjoy it.

The only issue with RLV is that the protocol is pretty fucking ass, but that's an implementation issue, not a conceptual one. Sky just has to make his bridge protocols not ass.
>>
>>43639072
I just don't think it's worth driving wedges between shared experiences
Most people are not here because we expect technical wizardry of a 23-year-old platform, we're here to communicate with people. Anything that breaks up the experience is kind of losing the plot
>>
>>43639150
But again, you can just not use the feature if you don't want to. If you're not here for technical wizardry and you don't care for rain effects, then this doesn't affect you at all. But anyone who DOES want to see pretty rain in their pony city, can then choose to see it.
Much like RLV, again, if you don't care for the fetish shit you can just disable it and/or even use the stock LL viewer if you're insane. But for those that want it, it's there.
And I'd rather people complain that FS doesn't support the weather effects and then FS devs add support for it, than nobody ever get to see them because baby ducks refuse to use any other viewer while at the same time not wanting to miss our on features from other viewers.

It's not like everyone even uses the same windlight, anyway. IMO having a shared day-night cycle is way more important than being able to see shared experimental rain, but even that isn't shared by all ponies since many just use a custom environment rather than using the sim one.
>>
>>43639171
There's a difference between changing a windlight and using an entirely different program
Why are you always like this, you get an idea in your head and you can't admit any kind of fault with it
>>
>>43639216
No, I'm saying, people already don't care about consistency enough to bother to use the default sim windlight, and instead just use whatever and desync their day night cycle.
Anyway, when faced with the prospect of new features actually happening in spite of LL doing their best to do absolutely nothing, your instinct is not to hope that other viewers also pick it up and we actually get cool features but rather to go "nooo other people shouldn't be allowed to have what I don't have!"? If you really cared so much you could just use Slipstream, and if you don't want to and don't care about lobbying for FS/Alchemy to add it too then you shouldn't have a problem with those who do care about the feature getting to use it.

>spoiler
I'm not Sky, I'm not even using Slipstream yet. I'm waiting for other people to beta-test the vibe-coded viewer. But I'm excited about what's being added, and I'm looking forward to probably switching to it in a couple of months once enough people have used it that it's clear that it's stable and reliable

My hope is that every viewer pulls in my features, in fact I'd like a standardized LSL API for things like weather, posing, etc. It would be best for the community if every viewer got these features, so no one is left out.

Maybe if Slipstream gets enough traction, LL will finally realize that the reason they bleed players is their tech has stagnated for years, and they need to do something about it, such as making the official viewer better (and fixing their cluster fuck simulator code).
>>
>>43639419
some viewers might adopt but you'll never get the Black Dragon dev to implement anything fun or useful
>>
>>43639419
I honestly believe that at this point, if they vibeslopped themselves a proper test harness and then started vibeslopping features, SL would be improved.
But they come off as the kind of tech company that will continue developing with like a kanban-waterfall model and individual low-paid devs grabbing tickets off of jira and taking 8 business days to do the simplest shit, as long as the cash from the 2000% markup AWS server space keeps flowing. And if it ever stops they'll just fold and bankrupt.
>>
>>43639425
Nobody uses black dragon for gameplay. In fact I don't know anybody who bothers with black dragon at all anymore ever since the PBR update, since the default firestorm renderer combined with reshade is just good enough for excellent looking photos.
And hell Slipstream's renderer is probably even better than anything BD can do since the completely rebuilt renderer was the first selling point of the viewer.

Knowing Sky Line just a bit, I've considered that he'll work on it for a while, might get burnt out on the project, or fed up with people begging for features and work or something else he's interested in.

Because let me tell you, working on a viewer is no small task. It really does take many pairs of eyes and brains and a team to cover all your bases and tackle the more specialized features (like RLV) that some people might have more experience in wanting it to work a particular way.

It's going to be a hard road towards saying, "Slipstream is now an official SL viewer" or "Sl wants to implement features from the viewer server-side". I mean, that would totally be an accomplishment, and it's also a realistic goal, but the cost would be the continued, added pressure of making the viewer constantly better and better.

And while I think the end result will be something positive, if Sky Line decided he doesn't want to work on it anymore or can't, then somepony else has to take the reins, or it'll be left to die like every other deprecated third-party viewer. That's my whole issue with this entire thing.

>working on a viewer is no small task.
Under normal circumstances but with the AI sloppening the situation is completely different.
Yes, long term maintaining a whole viewer even with AI help would still be quite some work but the initial tinkering and adding new features with AI help is probably feels like taking drugs right now. If you have a tiny bit of programming knowledge you suddenly feel like a fucking god on steroids, it's even stronger the more skills you actually ahve. I assume he's feeling that rush right now.
>It's going to be a hard road towards saying, "Slipstream is now an official SL viewer"
I doubt that this is his goal and even a couple posts up he hinted what he wants to do withthis. In my opinion he actually won "the game" the moment some of the things he implemented in his viewer first get also implemented in the others and yes, the biggest win would be the Lindens standardizing some of them. If he reached that goal I think he could just retire Slipstream IN CASE he got bored with it at that point. I say Slipstream's purpose should be spearheading things and get shit rolling.
If he continues having fun with this he could position Slipstream as some kinda "bleeding edge" technology viewer that will be known to test brand new techniques and pushing boundaries. That could be his viewer's niche. So people would use it for shiny new features even when shit may be a bit buggy. Kinda like in the automotive world some people buy the expensive luxury brand for brand new technology while others rather buy from their sub-brands if they rather want reliability.

My only goal in making Slipstream is to make a nice viewer for myself, and anyone who decides to use it. Having other viewers pick up my features would be cool because it makes SL as a whole better. Also, I've mentioned a few times before, but I'll mention again, I am an actual SWE who has been doing shit for a decade. Claude ofc makes shit a lot faster and helps get shit out the door quicker, which is a godsend, but I've built a vulkan renderer on my own before, around 2021 iirc, and I work a day job as an SWE (from home, which helps let me work on Slipstream in parallel)

>>
>>43641115
>Under normal circumstances but with the AI sloppening the situation is completely different.
Not at the moment. Currently, AIs are excellent at working on a focused task, but maintaining is the precise opposite of that: it's a very broad requirement of "uhh keep it up to date and make sure it doesn't break".
There's a reason there's a ton of vibeslopped projects out there that were built in literally 1-2 days and let you do some fantastic thing, but then the author never commits again and if there's any bugs they never get fixed or if any updates are required they never come.

If you actually set out to maintain a project, using AI to do so does make it easier, but the maintenance responsibility is still on you.

it's implemented basically the same way you'd implement a shadow map, and wind direction/strength plays into what angle that shadow map is captured from. There's some jankness around this though, because storing snow textures for everything and keeping track of what moving objects have snow on them and where. Presently it just kind of cops out and the snow "falls off" if you move quickly or if you rotate where the snow could fall off, but I plan to make this more robust, I'd also like mesh snow to be able to gather on top of a popen, because that would be extremely funny.
