The original Fearless is better than Taylor's version because she has a younger voice and sounds cute. I want to hear a 15 year old tell me she loves me, not some old lady.

this illustrates how meaningless streams are compared to old school sales of the 1950's-1990's or whenever.

No chart in the 1970's let's say ever had Pink Floyd or Led Zeppelin or Steely Dan or Earth, Wind and Fire taking more than two positions on a singles chart.
And that was extremely rare.

7/10 positions is meaningless.
I contributed to that, too - but I didn't download a single TS song from the new album.

Delusional. Popular is not mutually exclusive to good. Both can coexist and Taylor is a proof.

huge music groups, what's the problem?
EWF was the 2nd biggest selling group of the 1970's, Taylor must be the 1st or close in this era

Steely Dan was obviously not a "huge group" and EW&F was obviously not the "2nd best selling group of the 70s" with their, what, 20m albums sold? the Bee Gees had one album selling 30m at the time, comparing these bands with Taylor Swift is ludicrous
>>
>>121539922
>you're missing the point
Saying something is "meaningless" isn't a point, your only argument is "Pink Floyd never had 2 songs in a singles chart" or something which has nothing to do with OP's list
>>
>>121538944
I fucking love streaming so much. God bless Spotify. I will never go back to downloads or physical media. I own nothing and I’m LOVING IT BABYYY. It’s so liberating to rent everything I need for a small fee as opposed to buying things and then having to manage and store them myself.

There has to be some RIAA/label fuckery going on here. Eagles are popular, but I refuse to believe they are so popular to have 2 of the 3 best selling albums ever in the US
>>
>>121543833
It happened in 2018, the Greatest Hits went from 29xp to 38xp and Hotel California 15xp to 26xp. Their label (Rhino) did the same thing with Hootie & The Blowfish shortly before that, 16xp to 21xp. It's extremely shady to say the least.

It's not fair to compare music sales from the 70s to hits on Spotify for a number of reasons.

1) Radio was far more commonly listened to and you don't have any control over what comes on
2) Records were bulky and expensive
3) In the 70s there was a lot more artists worth listening to so sales were a lot more spread out

You can take any year you want from the 70s and it'll have more top quality music than the entire last two decades.

I looked up vinyl prices in the 70s and got this:

>the average retail sale price of a vinyl EP/LP was $7.32 – equal to $30.18 in today's dollars when adjusted for inflation.

that's interesting actually. I was going to disagree because I thought they were cheaper but they were kinda expensive

1971:
>Led Zeppelin IV
>What's Going On - Marvin Gaye
>Songs of Love And Hate - Leonard Cohen

>Maggot Brain - Funkadelic
>Hunky Dory - Bowie
>Blue - Joni Mitchell
>Ram - Paul McCartney
>Sticky Fingers - Rolling Stones
>Who's Next - The Who
>Fireball - Deep Purple
>LA Woman - The Doors
>Aqualung - Jethro Tull
>Bryter Layter - Nick Drake

The average price of a vinyl LP in 1969 was $3. By 1977 it was over $7 due to the general inflationary trend of the era. You recall Tom Petty suing his own label for what he considered unfair price hikes of his albums.

Oh no I mean, i don't think it's that complicated lol I just think that Spotify itself, for whatever reason, reports bullshit numbers, perhaps because someone in Taylor's circle (and probably other artists, too) have paid them to do so or some shit, is my guess.

> millennial

The ironic part about this statement is that those millenials at the lower end, closer to gen x'ers are all infinitely healthier and more able-bodied than 90% of zoomers whose endocrine systems have been wrecked by freebasing goyslop and all kinds of other at-home science experiment hormones they've been tricked into thinking were a good idea courtesy of their tiktok addiction. And to make the situation all the more humorous, they also ackshually believe their mental & physical illnesses are advantageous. Sad!
>>
>>121557423
so just for publicity? it wouldn't be worth the risk, also these numbers aren't surprising when you consider other things like her $2b grossing tour, being the most searched person on Google for the last 18 months...etc, she just has no competition

>>121538944
Can we at least admit that this is the most brave lyric writing ever? Its like The White Album if it had shit tier instrumentals. I can see people enjoying it on the level where.. see they are already parasocial towards Taylor right? So these are the deepest darkest weirdest thoughts of someone you idolize, its like she wrote the lyrics so you could see the real her.

Otherwise its shitty music entirely. I just can see the angle this album is going for hitting perfectly with many people.
