>>121551139Someone said in another thread a few weeks back that his estate hasn’t tried to push him as this godlike friend-to-all-men who is always and will always be relevant like the MJ estate has been doing for the past 15 years but more just a guy who is really good at playing music and was a virtuoso on guitar. I think the steady stream of posthumous releases and super deluxe editions with 500 extra unreleased songs have definitely helped his legacy and they still sell well but I think most people listening to Prince today are already big fans and the like. I mean outside of Purple Rain and 1999 getting regular streams by casual listeners, I think his popularity has been more or less consistent with a very similar group who know about stuff like The Rainbow Children or Chaos and Disorder or Lotusflower, etc

A lot of his early 2000s stuff (Xpectation, NEWS, the two NPG club albums) were mp3 only and never got physical releases and the site itself closed down in 2006 meaning a lot of it was just gone. 20ten didn’t even get a US release and only came out in certain parts of Europe as a newspaper cover mount. The Gold Experience was out of print for nearly 20 years because of a lawsuit regarding Most Beautiful Girl in the World. The Batman soundtrack was out of print for a while too. Fair enough, you could easily find his 80s and 90s stuff on cd (most of the time) but he had a sizeable amount of music that was incredibly hard/borderline impossible to find until his death and all of it getting put on streaming

Which, for the record, they still have so many great songs that are unreleased that they played for us while i was there. Its funny though, cause the few singles that came out recently are really not that exciting, but the ones they previewed for us are top-tier. Specifically "All the king's men".The general attitude is that the estate/prince's family just really love prince, and they want to release the new content in the best way without cutting any corners. His family are all really down to earth people, or at least it seems that way.The fans though..... they get weird. almost cult-like. they DO want to push Prince as a godlike figure. One fan who got to speak said we need to "evangelize the younger generation".I think that all of the drama between the estate and family has probably cooled down since its been ~8 years now since he passed.
