The crazy think about this beef is that it was all a pack of lies. A member of the band's entourage (a legit eccentric wacko grifter with his own bizarre lore) made up false sexual allegations against the Maharishi because he felt personally threatened by the guru's influence over the band. They were completely unaware of this for decades but all except John (who was by then dead) made amends with the Maharishi. But John mouthing off about it publicly really hurt his reputation, and all because some sycophant was afraid of losing his rank in the Beatles empire.
