I'm starting to miss hipster music, P4Kcore and all that shit. There was a lot of obnoxious stuff but overall it was a lot more exciting than now, when there's nothing relevant releasing. Music feels so artistically bankrupt and shallow now and I haven't encountered anything that I felt really excited about in the 2020s. How do you feel about this? Should we bring back Brooklyn hipsters?

Yes. Bring em back.

Bring back Minnesänger instead.

Hipster music stopped being good as soon as that stomp clap hey shit got big around 2010.

Could still fit into the one Argyle sweater I saved if I lost 5 lbs (2.23 kg), bros

It was cringe but it was fun at least. Now everything feels so boring and low energy.

that was when the idea of a hipster solidified in the public conscience and then it became a thing to LARP as. It was no longer the coked up rich kids from Williamsberg that hated their parents and dabbled in light racism at that point

that music still exists lol

It died when the millenials all got married. Now it's about selling le Neo-Y2k aesthetic to zoomzooms

It’s a mixed bag but it’s funny what clarity the passage of time can bring to your assessment of things. When it was actually happening, I would’ve grouped bands like of Montreal and Deerhunter into one big indie category and liked them both about equally. Now it’s so obvious the former was garbage best left in the past while the latter genuinely had something special and are sorely missed.

I feel like of Montreal has a way shittier legacy than Deerhunter; the later aged a lot better and hasnt been putting out shitty albums in the past 10 years like of Montreal has been

In 2004, I was living in Brooklyn, the neighborhood named after the line of a brook. A strange man with a fedora and a mustache came up to me and passed me a small slip of paper with a comprehensive list of all future hipster bands scrawled onto it. I was filled with this intense sensation of dread, and have not spoken a single audible word since. Hipster culture is beautiful like that!

you didn't catch the adrianne lenker album or something? no hate to it, it's a very good album lol

also like, bcnr's last album was basically a direct revival of that era of indie music

No offense, but both of them are bland and boring as shit. Though I did find "fool" to be somewhat decent i know i'll never come back to it again
