have you ever had someone download your entire music library?
I am not sure what to think about it
>>
>>121764646
no but once someone downloaded a bunch of audio recordings from my old family itunes folder. it was a few recordings of my sister practicing for her cheerleader routine. lol I hope that guy enjoyed it
>>
What is the deal with people not letting anyone with no songs uploaded download from them. I never really got the point of gatekeeping, its not like they are the owners of the music in the first place
>>
>>121764646
did he ask for a reacharound too?
>>
>>121765405
you need to give back to the community.
>>
>>121765443
why? I go there specifically because I have no music in the first place
>>
I download mp4 files from people with names like untitled.mp4, webcam.mp4, new.mp4, save.mp4 and have gotten some angry messages due to it

>>
>>121765504
then share what you have. don't leech
>>
>>121765546
Share the same thing I got from soulseek?
>>
>>121765628
yeah, you understand how it works right?
>>
>>121765635
Would't the original uploader get mad? I don't want to start any drama on soulseek, Im already kicked out of some of the chatrooms
>>
>>121765662
They wouldn't. I have a library of like 100gb that I share all of downloaded from Soulseek originally in the past two or three months since I've discovered it. The only thing that upsets people is downloading without having any shared files because you're using their bandwidth without giving anything back to the community.
>>
>>121765662
lol wut. the whole point is you share what you download basically becoming a hydra for that audio file. If the original sharer does down you have it basically deduped
>>
>>121765538
kek, will try this now
>>121765662
You build a collection to share by downloading what others have shared so it doesn't rely on 1 person being online for it to be shared with someone else. Make your Soulseek downloads folder shared and download to your heart's content, simple as that.
>>
>>121765538
lmao, probably get a desktop recording with typing and breathing sounds
>>
>>121765546
I have leeched unimpeded for years and will never stop.

why? i guess i could understand if you're like a third worlder with awful internet or something but there's no excuse otherwise really
>>
>>121765738
Then why are there so many instances of people with rare albums they only let a select few have. I tried to get one from a guy and he wanted to do a zoom call interview to make sure I was up to standards
>>
I have actually had someone download my entire library and I was so confused. Were they just lazy as fuck, or did they have the exact same music taste?
>>
>>121765797
We just know simp cucks like you will do it for us for free
>>
>>121765847
they are retarded grifters ruining the platform and hated by the vast majority of soulseek file sharers. ignore them and try to find the files from someone else

>>121765912
ah, so you're a favelamonkey. got it. hope you make it out of that situation man
>>
>>121765743
>kek, will try this now
Saw some filenames that were bestiality porn. A video edit of gay sexual dancing from the 80s to a song. The same guy also made a found footage music video to a pretty chill song I've never heard
>>121765778
why though? it feels good seeing all the people that download from you and knowing that the music you love can get to more people. Unless you have shitty internet or pay for bandwidth, this is just bizarrely antisocial.
>>121765847
everyone hates them
>>
>>121765847
>Then why are there so many instances of people with rare albums they only let a select few have
Those weirdos probably would get mad if you shared their privated shit after they let you download it. They'd probably hack you or some shit lmao
>wanted to do a zoom call interview to make sure I was up to standards
I'd sooner do a RED interview
>>
>>121765405
I got tired of all the automated messages so I just converted a txt file to raw audio, copied and pasted it a bunch of times and Voilà, no more annoying spam
>>
>>121765876
People just like having lots of albums in their library even if they haven't listened and digested 90% of it. It's like a competition between people who don't actually enjoy music.
>>
>>121765935
The song was Love Dog by TV on the Radio
>>
>>121765662
My library is entirely built off soulseek. Having the same albums you downloaded as your uploads is also good because you might be somebody's highest download speed for a particular thing
>>
>>121765778
people don't even leech that much. just share what you got, you're giving away not much data. most reputable torrent sites require 1.0 ratio, that would be impossible on slsk but its nothing to just give what you have
>>
>>121766136
Also it's music, I currently have 926 albums and I upload maybe 3 on a weekday and 6 on a weekend. So 300 to 600MB a day if you have 320 mp3. Much less taxing than uploading a 4k remux blu-ray
>>
>>121766226
it meant a lot to me to rip and share on what.cd. I was a torrent master by sharing like 100 wholly new to them rips. by now, don't care, just keeping it fair by sharing my (large) library
>>
>>121766287
any resources on ripping? I tried myself using youtube-dlp but it was a pain in the ass having to put in the metadata and organizing it. Is there an easy streamlined way of doing it?
>>
>>121766352
wtf, no I meant ripping your own CDs or vinyls. you should be able to figure out how to download youtube videos, that's much less involved
>>
>>121766365

chrome disallows any decent youtube dl functions (that's google, same as youtube). you need a script, greasemonkey or just use firefox for that
>>
>>121764646
you need to SOUL SEEK a QT in REAL LIFE
>>
>>121766422
yt-dlp fixed all the problems last time I tried 2 years ago. I tried and gave up on figuring out all of the functions. It was feature rich tho
>>
>>121766464
honestly, this is a problem I have fixed in 5 minutes each time I'm faced with it. greasemonkey, good script. there you go
>>
>>121766479
I'm not sure how I would use greasemonkey with it since it's a command line program. Also, I think I figured it out. Theres a function called "--embed-metadata " that I just found with a quick google search

>>
Just wondering when uploading do I continually have to seed it or do I just upload it
>>
I recently cleaned up my library and port forwarded to finally start sharing and I've been looking at the people who download from me and what they share. I thought my library was a mess before I organized it again but my god some people's folders are just insane. I guess they just have correct metadata or something and don't bother with much folder organization
btw, best folderorganization is not artist>album>tracks it's actually year>album>tracks
>>
>>121777577
there is no seeding, you just have to scan all the files you want to share and people download them directly from you. It's more personal than torrenting. Once they are done downloading them they are completely done interacting with your bandwidth
>>
I tried to share with Soulseek and I just couldn't get it to work at all.
>>
>>121777599
>btw, best folderorganization is not artist>album>tracks it's actually year>album>tracks
why is that? I'm not nearly autistic enough to remember every album in my library by year
>>
>>121777755
what are you having an issue with? It seems complicated and there's no "simple" explanation out there because everyone's router is different but ultimately it just comes down to inputting some numbers in a box
>>
stop making soulseek posts. keep it kvlt, brethren.
>>
>>121777873
>why is that?
because i said so :^) But no it really isn't that much better I just prefer it because I listen to a lot of new releases and it's easier to dump all the albums in the year than it is to make a new artist folder every time
>>
>>121777913
It's been a while since I used it. I don't know if it was the port forwarding but it just didn't connect. I'll try again.
>>
>>121777952
I guess that makes sense for anything in the last 5-10 years but still I can't be assed to remember the 50 years before that
>>
>>121766397
brilliant
>>
What's the case for using mp3's in this day and age? I held out for a long time but gave in to the convenience of listening to every album on YouTube a few years ago
>>
>>121778516
a lot of stuff i listen to isnt on streaming. Also I like supporting artists on bandcamp directly as opposed to paying subscription money to a big corporation
>>
This is literally just limewire wtf is wrong you with zoomers?
>>
>>121764646
ive accidentally done this to someone a few times in my 20 years of using this program. it happens when someone doesnt organize their shares and has all their songs in one folder. im searching for artist-album name and hit download folder instinctively cause im so used to people organizing by album. it sucks shit when it happens because it freezes the program every time.

Never, and I would blacklist the mf if it happened. I also cuck non sharing users from my files. I've got over 1TB of lossless music, a lot of it being my own purchases. I've got zero tolerance for lame leechers.
>>

Somewhat related to this but I only download Soulseek MP3s because I put everything on a 60 GB Ipod I've had for a while. It sucks that Itunes only accepts those and not FLACS are there any good portable music players that accept flac?
>>
>>121781301
There are a lot of portable music players that support FLAC. And Apple/iTunes should be able to convert your FLAC files into M4As.
>>
>>121780602
guy probably laughed and then deleted it
>>
>>121765142
Lol.

I think someone did that to me once
But I do remember someone tried locking files of my own music I was trying to retrieve since my old computer had to be thrown out and I got a new one and then proceeded to insult me and call me a neo-medievalist jackass after googling me. I wish I could have strangled him to death.
>>
>>121781301
why do you want flac files on your ipod?
MP3 320kbps is totally fine, you won't hear any real difference + you can store more music.
>>
>>121779956
>1TB of lossless music

I have downloaded approximately 4TB from various users on Slsk, sharing precisely 0KB in return. I’ve also never sent a message in the chatrooms or privately.

Also, can you fucking retards learn proper english and grammar so I don’t have to fix tags all the time.

It’s fucking ‘Death in June’, not ‘Death In June’ or ‘death in june’.

Also, your files should be organised like this:
-Album Artist
—(Release Year) Album Name
—-01 - Track Title
—-02 - Track Title
>>
>>121783226

why bother with cbr though? If you compress all that to v2 you save a lot of space for less then the quality drop of lossless to lossy. Also if his player supports other formats like vorbis ogg or even opus he should definitely use those instead of mp3, Id also always convert from lossless files for the most efficient compression

if you buy any weird import editions, have multiple copies of different versions of an album, or just generally want to know what your files are actually from it's incredibly useful. 90% of the time it doesn't change much but the other 10% it does.

>>
>>121786905
if you download music you can play anything, in any quality, any time even without internet connection, you have a full control. None of these can streaming do. Also spotify is the most cucked straming service out there, there are just so many better alternatives unless you are already cucked by using iphone. If you care about the statistics then just use last.fm

if it has bonus tracks it's usually the best edition of an album to download and it's worth keeping track of what it is. in the rarer case there's multiple editions with weird differences in content/track order/mastering then it's even more useful.
>why would you waste space like that

>>
>>121787435

>>
>>121787435
also forgot to mention that it's at least some assurance it's not some gay ass mutt rip from multiple sources, which people love to do on soulseek given it's just people's personal libraries rather than archival-oriented torrent uploads
>>121787456
if an album only has a 'normal edition' and then a japanese bonus tracks edition that is otherwise identical I'll just grab the japanese one and be done with it. the multiple copies thing is just for when there's other major differences beyond X number of tracks tacked on to the end, though even then I wouldn't keep only part of a release or mix files between two different ones because I want them complete as released by the artist/label instead of being my own personal compilation. if I want one of those I can just make a playlist
