John Fahey is the best a singular guitarist has ever sounded on his own, post other guitarists that transcend their instrument not just shredders, fahey tells entire stories crafts entire worlds with his playing and without speaking a word

>ITT: artists who's songs all the sound the same
>bootlegs/tv specials/his own fucking records often mix titles up because every song sounds so similar
wow great artist. daily reminder fahey was a very bitter drunk who tossed off music theory and learning how to play an instrument correctly in favor of impressing plebians who couldn't into classic guitar. he never even learned how to tune his guitar correctly or what the notes meant, which is probably why so many songs share the exact same hook/fingerpicked pattern
lol

if you play guitar or at least have heavily listened to guitar music closely you would know that fahey has very distinct sounding songs, if you only know pop or electronic or idk heavy metal than yeah you might think a solo acoustic open style instrumentalist music all sounds the same, my favorite songs are Red Pony, Fare Forward Voyagers, and Mark 1:15, the last two are long songs and they are very distinct. His music captures the soul of america but especially the sound of the pioneers plowing westward dreams filling their heads, theres a lot of religious zeal in it and yes he was an alkie and he captures the sound of a passed out cowboy in a saloon aswell.

Robbie basho, Michael Hurley, blind Blake, Mississippi John hurt, Elizabeth Cotten. John fahey is great but he was largely expanding upon piedmont blues

i love John but we have to separate the man from his playing and he's not elite like John Fahey is, but he's a good composer

Jack Rose was good, but he only really had two songs—-his Fahey song and his Basho song. He could swing and had great tone, but never really transcended those two and developed his own voice. I’m sure he would have had he lived.
