Rock - Men, especially straight white men who spend a lot of money on rock bands live, but who are ignored by MSM. Perhaps lesbians? Lesbians make indie rock fairly often.

Pop, rap, r&b - women and minorities will stream this on spotify and listen on the radio. those types of music don't cause those people to see them live.

If Pop, rap, or r&b were really such a large percentage - that would be reflected in live numbers throughout the venue size ranges. Large venues, small venues. If any of those genres were actually big, there would be many shows at many venues of that type. There isn't. Most live shows are one type of rock or another. MSM seems to want to get as many people listening to the same thing, but most people hate that music. Despite a lack of attention and hype from the MSM, rock is doing much better live, where ticket prices are high. Actual money is made by actual players of musical instruments. Country, too. Similar to rock, instruments, popular live, but more narrow. People will pay to see people playing instruments, less so for backup dancers. I've seen more indie versions of Top 40 Pop, and it appears that's something that gay men like. Women not as much. Unfamous female singer, writing songs that sound like Top 40 Pop songs, a track, and at least one dancer. Are the local bars full of those things? No. The local equivalent of Top 40 is karaoke and drag queens.
