Travis Barker joining the band.
>>
>>122878364
I posted this before, but I think it's funny, so I'll post it again: I was in Portland earlier this year for reasons that had nothing to do with wanting to be in Portland, and I saw a sticker on the back of a street sign that said something to the effect of "Travis Barker Killed Punk" and I think about it often.
>>
>>122878410
Nah, Punk died when The Sex Pistols were put together like a boyband. I like them but they for sure killed Punk.

Enema, toypaj, and Untitled are their best albums
>>
>>122878971
Toypaj sucks, enema had 2 good songs, dumpweed and all the small things, their best albums are dude ranch and self titled
>>
Neighborhoods had good songs, so did the Dogs EP but it went to shit after. Too much Mark, not enough Tom being a schizo
>>
>>122878178
But what actually are you referring to? They are still a fun band writing fun songs, and performing in stadiums.
I do wish Tom did more with Angels & Airwaves though because his songwriting is interesting.
>>122878364
I have a soft spot for the Scott Raynor albums, the drumming is so comfy and the band feels more genuine.
>>122879064
yeah honestly the albums I revisit most now are S/T and Dude Ranch, the two albums representative of the two lineups.
>>
>>122878178
Ive been listening to them a ton a while back and honestly nothing went that wrong, they just got old and became out of touch, they kept pushing the same shit over and over again even tho the worlds musical landscape changed immensely
They shouldve just called it quits years ago
That being said, they nailed that catchy carefree angsty sound and they knew how to write songs
>>
>>122878178
They got old but still made songs for teenagers
>>
>>122878178
https://youtu.be/GX3ENRaEPFU?si=_00A0N3EJWCF6zEi

What did they mean by this?
>>
today I will remind them of the KINO cover of Billy Idol they did with Scott https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-me-zDOG-R4
>>
>>122879212
pretty good but this is the best cover they did
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6g0wqOKX3o
also, their screeching weasel cover is kino
>>
>>122880224
yeah they were great at covers, love that Cure one and the Screeching Weasel one too.
I think the Billy Idol one is so bad its good.
they also covered Descendents which Tom's voice was made for https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flZnSzyUxCg
>>
>>122880343
I only found out about that descendants cover couple of days ago, which is weird
But i absolutely love that cover
>>

>>122878971
Untitled is overrated hot topic garbage. Enema is good, toypaj is hit or miss. Overall in my opinion Raynor era is more enjoyable and I'm a 20 year old zoomer so it isn't nostalgia.
>>
>>122880343
Off topic but I wasn't really shocked to find out Billie Joe Armstrong said he thought The Descendents were shit as a teenager and was more inspired by The Replacements and Husker Du.
>>
>>122881918
*was really shocked fucking phone posting
>>
>>122879112
My problem is Travis overplayed way too much and it got worse with every album they recorded with him. Scott just served the song while Travis played like a trash metal drummer over power chords and root notes.
>>
travis' drumming technique is out-of-place with a band like blink. there's a few time his fills work on s/t but outside of that, it's no bueno.

he also completely fucked the mix on the new album to the point where i can't listen to it. whole album had so much potential but they needed someone in there to help them with their songs. there's been countless people on youtube writing their own versions of said songs with small improvements that end up sounding WAY better than the originals.

Aliens went wrong
>>
>>122881965
the best example is the two versions of Mutt, the Scott one and Travis one

>>
>>122878364
What a huge difference. The other drummer looks like a Mormon playing drums.

https://youtu.be/I6kfin-UeAQ
>>
>>122878410
It's disingenuous to say Travis Barker killed punk because Blink 182 were always pop punk anyway
>>
>>122883582
Scott was 14 when blink formed in 1992 and was 19 when he got kicked. He was just a kid.
>>
Neighborhoods is there greatest album imo ghost on the dance floor, up all night, wishing well , and MH 4.18.2011 are dam good songs.
Tom was getting burnout of touring and wanted to move the band in a elevated direction but mark and Travis were against that. thats why they broke up in 2005 right?
I also remember tom saying some of the songs on the first angles and airwaves album were originally blink songs. Not 100% sure.
>>
>>122883798
Mark Hoppus was kinda weirdly older than the rest of Blink. Pretty sure when they formed Scott was 14, Tom was 16, and Mark was like 22 finishing college.
>>
>over 50
>baseball cap on backwards
>>
>>122883917
Agreed, Neighborhoods is severely underrated
>>
>>122884469
Punk is a state of mind. Age is just a number.
>>
>>122884469
I can look past the backwards cap, Tom has worn them since forever.
What I can't look past is Mark still painting his nails black
>>
>>122878178
They exist
>>
>>122880224
this is unlistenable dogshit. the afi one from that show was actually good though

>there are goyslopping plebeians here who unironically listened to this trash
lmao just goes to show what a shit board /mu/ is
>>
>>122887018
/mu/ isn't exclusively for certain bands, its for all music except rap because that isn't music
>>
>>122879129
It shouldn't matter that the landscape has changed because the landscape really sucks horribly now anyway so I wouldn't want them to do an album like California or whatever its called. One of those shitty post-tom records. But they do sound a lot weaker now than they used to. Maybe it's their voices not sounding as good esp tom, his voice is kind of shot now for singing that pop punk kind of stuff. Also their songwriting lacks the carefree fun of the past and is more over serious
>>
>>122878178
someone let travis take control of the board and have him turn up the drums.
>>
>>122880803
it all boils down to this
>>
>>122880803
yep
>>
>>122878178
They're almost 50 years old
>>
>>122880803

Tom knew this early which is why he went off to form Angels and Airwaves
>>
>>122878364
>Always though Travis Barker was cool
>He's an absolute prick irl
>>
>>122890489
Wow a guy that obviously never aged past 14 based off his daily appearance is a prick?
>>
They killed +44
>>
>>122884454
Difference between mark and tom is 3 and a half years which is not that bad, for example in 1994 on first album mark was 22 and tom was 18( cause hes born in december). Now that i think about it it is kinda weird. Especially with scott being 16(!) then. Thats definitely pretty weird. Damn. I remember realizing mark was 27 on enema and thought its pretty retarded what kinda music hes making at 27. But this is even weirder
>>
funny how they're notorious for the What's My Age Again video and being naked but they actually hated it and thought it ruined their band for a while
I think when they signed with MCA they were forced to do certain stuff and push an image
Imagine blink-182 being an Epitaph band? They had two offers for MCA or Epitaph and they went MCA
>>
>>122878178
Imagine having to perform Dammit when you're like 50
>>
>>122892924
>Imagine blink-182 being an Epitaph band?
They would've signed to a major label the second Enema blew up like The Offspring did with Smash or they would've just been a forgotten Warped Tour act like every other Epitaph band that isn't Bad Religion.
>>
>>122892939
>paid a shitload of money to play four chords
Doesn't sound too bad to me.
>>
>>122892924

that and the All The Small Things video were kino. I mean they were playing pop punk to teenagers what did they expect.
>>
>>122879198
I always liked those joke tracks they put in their earlier albums.

>>
>>122895280
he was a retarded junkie. probably still is.
>>122895441
this shit all happened a decade ago. he lost everything because he was a junkie and worked retail with a bunch of 20-something year olds when he was like 40. but no i haven't heard anything about/from him in many years
>>

t. uncultured European anon
>>
>>122896992
portland is a hellscape with dying junkies literally everywhere
>>
>>122878364
Based and correct
Travis Barker is the best definition of someone who is proficient in his instrument but not a good drummer in that he can’t mend himself to fit with his bandmates or the music they are making
>>
>>122896992
Portland is the closest place in the United States to Europe outside maybe New York or San Fran

one time in prolly 2003 i really wanted some arnette sunglasses. my parents gave me like $60 for some after months of begging and doing chores.

i went to the mall, got some white arnettes, walked out of the mall, opened the box and took out the sunglasses

dropped them immediately and it chipped a corner of the arm where the arm meets the frame and my parents were so fucken mad
>>
>>122897679
I've been looking for the Arnette hat Scott is wearing here for a while
also lol @ those 90s sunglasses

The new drummer fucked up the band /thread
>>
>>122878364

No. Dude ranch was great but we cannot blame Travis for songwriting slumps when he didnt write any songs. He is a tight and mechanical drummer who lacks for nothing. Hes kinda like Ringo Starr but the 909 Tattoo peckerwood version
>>
>>122898440
He did write songs though, there are parts on songs where the drums clearly drove the song.
Tom also said in an interview that there was a lightbulb moment where Tom and Mark stopped writing songs and bringing them to the guys and instead they all collaborated on parts, here he explains that (ignore title) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrM03bdaYaA
Travis went from making beats for the songs Tom and Mark already wrote to actually creating a drum hook for Mark and Tom to play to.
a song like Don't Leave Me with that intro is completely drum driven https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwWeUih7L8g
>>
>>122898440
>Hes kinda like Ringo Starr
Ringo never overplayed like Travis does though.

tom was rly a chad when he was young.

i didnt notice his facial ticks till i saw him live in A&A a few years ago
