lyrics are tough to rate and compare because theres lots of poetic artful lyricists that compare to actual literature, people like bob dylan or the better progressive rockers, beefheart is great in his own way and folk artists tend to be strong in general, but what people neglect is that part of good lyrics is sense of purpose and importance of capturing a subject or feeling, a song like Break Stuff by Limp Bizkit is imo very good lyrics because it boils down a feeling to such raw and direct words that there is no way to write that songs lyrics better, its on point lyricsm and it climaxes with the bridge where durst just repeats "GIVE ME SOMETHING TO BREAK, HOW BOUT YOUR FUCKIN FACE" if you knew meathead late 90s dude when they were raging thats exactly what their existence boiled down to and thats why Durst at time is a great lyricst, I really like Doug Marstch personally, kicked it in the sun is great and the peak of indie rock type lyrics>we're special in other ways ways our mothers appreciatethose have hit me hard before, another great pick is David Berman
