Why does this artist get so much praise? These days, whenever I reluctantly open Instagram, I keep seeing A vs B reels where women on the street are asked which female pop star they prefer, and Rihanna usually ends up at the top. Might be with beyonce. How come?

I wonder if it's something only women understand. But for be she's music is non-entity souless

Lana, Lady Gaga, even Taylor could mog her
>>
>>122893579
Cause she's hot
>>
>>122893784
I don't get the hype. Sure she's pretty but damn she's got a big ass forehead
>>
>>122893784
But she isn't. Take away her music and fame and I know several girls in real life who would be more successful as a model than her, nevermind if she's competing against other celebrities.
>>
>>122893784
I've never understood that take in my entire life. Maybe I've never been State so I can't fully understand beauty starndards of it. Jorja Smith and Fka twigs are much more hotter
>>
>>122893877
Rihanna has an aura that other musicians don't have which makes her much hotter.
>>
>>122893848
Distinctive facial features like that are a positive. Those other singers aren't ugly by any means but they wouldn't really cut it as models
>>
>>122893865
>I know several girls in real life that are hotter
You can say that about anyone, really
>>
>>122893089
She's evil
>>
>caring about stream numbers
>>
>>122893946
This. Every hot musician is always considered mid and "I can find hotter women walking down the street in NYC"

They are elevated because they are talented and hot.

beyonce is hot and still looks really good but she does nothing for me. Like she kind of looks like an AI generated woman to me. Rihanna on the other hand is hot cause she isn't so perfect
>>
>>122893089
also has big fucking forehead

That's the power of the music marketing and media. Even less talented artists like Olivia Rodrigo are praised as the second coming, all thanks to the empty-headed masses eating up whatever they're told.

Olivia Rodrigo's popularity is much more understandable than Rihanna's, isn't it? At least, it's clear what niche she has and how she touches emotions. I just can't relate to Rihanna's music at all.
>>
>>122894174
I guess you're right, since we all know a girl with weird tits like Olivia and Rihanna simply has no identity at all, but they're both still basically worthless media creations.

IM A SIMPLE MAN AND I UNDERSTAND OLIVIA

But joke aside I'm ESL, And she looks like one of the models from the English worksheets I used to do in elementary school.
>>
>>122893579
Because she is black and deeply ingrained into millennial/zoomer pop culture. During her ten years career, she spawned several #1 and top tens hits.
Also, she isn't overtly political like Beyonce, only talks about her make-up franchise and her songs never went beyond sex, love or partying.
>>
>>122894248
damn shes ugly without makeup

I think Rihanna benefited from NOT being an American black. She is a caramel-colored Caribbean mulatta. She stands slightly outside of the US racial system. And that helps her.
>>
>>122894699
>>122894624
There are no traditional pop artists in my Last.fm top 50. I wonder if my mixed Asian heritage has anything to do with why I don't get Rihanna's music. I've never met anyone around me who enjoys listening to her.

Doubt.
>>
I don't really like her look or her music, personally.
Never really considered her among the top acts of her era, but that's my own personal bias. She was obviously very influential, and her music is played all over. It just kinda went in one ear and out the other for me.

It was also just not an era of popular music that did much for me, when she was getting songs written by Sia and so forth... I'd go so far as to say that a lot of stupid vocal sound we hear today is a result of those two. Dancehall tinged Urban club pop in the 2010s just didn't enter my rotation.

But when she performed at the Superbowl, it did at least clue me in on the fact that she's a talented artists with great stage presence. It's just not my kind of music.

I feel similarly about Beyonce, who I do feel is a better artist in just about every way - but I just don't hear the "songs". She has a few I can get behind, but she hasn't had a legitimate pop banger since Destiny's Child in my honest opinion.
>>
I generally prefer the hyperpop style artists but I will say that that is a crowded field

Rihanna really does exist in a lane of her own
>>
>>122894889
lets start with music
>>
>>122894906
>I just don't hear the "songs".
every beyonce song that charted after "irreplaceable" is just her shrieking and with some of the worst hooks since J-Lo
she scary honestly

It's always women overrating her looks and downplaying the looks of actually attractive women. Just something I noticed from twitter

Glad I'm not the only one thinks this way.

As a 30 year old boomer white dude, I really don't want to stand on a soap box and say "Lol your Queen B is shite, stupid leftie feminists". Because I don't actually believe that to be true.

But it should always be about the music. Don't point to how fierce, or how perfectly round her butt is. Point me to the songs.

Women, particularly Black Women, have made some of the greatest contributions to the history of popular music. But what is that contribution from Beyonce and Rihanna?

"To the left to the left" and "ella ella ella eh eh"
>>
>>122895033
>But what is that contribution from Beyonce and Rihanna?
They both have some good songs

I think Rihanna's "Love on the Brain" is definitely a classic. Some good songs on Anti too (Same ol Mistakes is good but I mostly like the production I guess)
Beyonce Crazy in Love is also an all timer, but that was some time ago.

>>
>>122895054

>>
>>122894174
Rhiannas songs are really catchy and fun, simple as that. Olivia and these other hoes are just fucking cringy..they try too hard to be sexy or are way overdramatic and they sound annoying and retarded. Rhianna has tons of bangers of just really good well written pop songs that get stuck in your head

I just heard "drivers licence" by Olivia and it is pure cringe. Like a 12 year old wrote it
>>
>>122895192
It is a classic though, will probably be around for some time
>>
>>122895198
>>122895085

Except for Umbrella, other songs are unmemorable and cringe. I would rather listen to Nelly Furtado
>>
>>122895277
>cringe
Buddy, that wasn't the question

I guarantee you will be hearing "Love on the Brain" at weddings for the next like 20 or 30 years
>>
Ah Rihanna, the great vast pit of nothingness late 00s chart filler girl who sucked off P. Diddy for her non-career.
>>
Seriously, I think her streaming numbers have been boosted with money from viral marketing companies.
>>
>>122895277
Her songs are memorable. Any other pop bitch that (((they))) want you to love is cringy and barely has any hooks.. or generic hooks. Megan thee stallion? Does anyone really care about her?
>>
>>122895413
Even if that were true, which it isn't for the most part, it's still a creation of her label and the music media. She's the one they've been pushing, so she gets first crack at the songs other people are writing and producing. She's not a great talent, singer, or songwriter. Nothing substantive differentiates her from any other pop star.
>>
>Rihanna
Zzzzzz...

>>122894906
Beyonce is a top tier entertainer but a mediocre artist.

>>122895198

>Disturbia
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJxHHMsduQg

>ultra-boring delivery
>Autotune vocals
>there's literally no arrangement except a shitty backing beat+backing chorus, no instruments, no arrangements, no solos, no melody, nothing
>also absolutely slick, lifeless robo production
There I just explained why this song is completely worthless and unlistenable.
>>
>>122895085
she has 10 songs which get much more streams than the rest:

We Found Love
This Is What You Came For
Only Girl (In The World)
Umbrella
S&M
Don't Stop The Music
Love On The Brain
Diamonds
Stay
Needed Me
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HuQ0ni6AlrU

Umbrella is shit too, perhaps more listenable than Disturbia but only just.

>generic bleh guest rapper who still somehow overshadows Ri-Ri
>no production or arrangements again except a shitty backbeat
>1:26
>thank you for namedropping Ella Fitzgerald a lady who was infinitely more talented than you will ever be and encouraging us to go listen to her instead
>more boring monotone singing but at least there doesn't seem to be any Autotune on it and the vocals are actually audible instead of being buried in the mix
Don't care about the lyrics either way, they'd probably sound good if she sang them with any enthusiasm at all and there was more going on production-wise than a shitty repeating backbeat.
>>
>>122897246
>>122897177
not going to critique your opinion either way but you're not gonna like most 21st century pop if you dislike that kind of sound/production. go listen to boomer music if you want le ebic guitar solos.
>>
>>122897326
Dua lipa Billie Elish could mog Rihanna
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMP-o8WXSPM

"Love On The Brain" is from '16, years after her initial late '00s run. She did improve in that time as a singer and there's some actual effort in the production including the amusing pseudo doo-wop rip and disco strings although it does kind of prove the bankruptcy of modern pop that they have to rip decades old formats to get something listenable going on.
>>
>>122897421
so's Katy Perry. she only became a semi-ok singer relatively recently, not back when it would have actually mattered.
>>
>>122897496
>>122897421
yeah that's another fail aspect of modern pop

>once I'm commercially irrelevant I have all the time in the world to sit around and practice my singing
>couldn't sing for shit when I was commercially relevant of course since record labels cannot be bothered to give anyone vocal coaching or direction anymore
>>
>>122897542
Yeah...about that. In all fairness Rihanna was almost a deliberate industry overreaction to the preceding 20 years of Whitney-inspired oversinging. It comes in waves, like in the 60s-70s everyone got tired of 50s style Eydie Gorme belting and then it came back in the 90s with a vengeance.
>>
>>122893579
She has dozens of solid childhood bangers.

>>
>>122893848
That's pretty much the formula to make a genuinely insanely hot woman. A conventionally attractive woman is boring and plain. Give her an unusual facial trait, like a high gum to tooth ratio, a beaky nose, a large forehead, and now she looks more unique, approachable and interesting. No one actually wants to fuck a generic runway model. You need a bit of substance. Anyone in here who's genuinely saying they wouldn't bark like a dog at the sight of a petite Caribbean woman with an ass like an onion, perky tits and piercing eyes is an actual faggot.
>>
>>122893089
At this point she's even more overrated than Beyonce. Other than her radio hits Rihanna has absolutely no good songs.
