>thinly-disguised rap/popshit thread
>>
>know how to write really smart but catchy songs
>release a bunch of albums that are great from to back
>don't have any fighting or feuding going on with the band
>tour their fucking asses off
Truly one of the greatest bands ever

They were at the forefront of alternative rock and once that genre started gaining traction they were naturally elevated to the top. They were also just a really solid band, their run from Murmur to New Adventures is legendary.

>They were also just a really solid band, their run from Murmur to New Adventures is legendary.
This was a huge reason honestly. By the time REM was starting to get truly big they already had 4 totally solid albums under their belts, and that's if you were relatively early and getting into them when The One I Love and It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine). So people would go back and find out their earlier stuff was great too, and then their new releases kept smashing it out of the park as well.

This was an amazing album and yet the band are all but forgotten and barely even talked about.
They shit on U2 and nobody gives a shit who they are anymore either
>>
>>122905546
When they were a college band they played music people could dance to
>>
>>122907053
Ignoreland is the only song with bad lyrics
>>
They should've called it quits before 2000. They really didn't belong in that decade and their music released then shows it
>>
>>122907053
But yet you like shit lyrics like Charli xcx.. what a fucking dumb fuck you are
>>
>>122907865
People say that but they're still played constantly. I hear End of the world, one I love, man on the moon and losing my religion a lot

And I heard and sang along to Shiny Happy People on the radio last night

People are just disingenuous scumbag retards because that's how the.media are. A bunch of peddling conniving pieces of shit trying to shill their garbage on people. Real people know REM is classic

Imagine if Stipe had died after Automatic like people thought was going to happen. They'd be talked about like The Beatles
>>

>>know how to write really smart but catchy songs
what's so smart abou them
>>
>>122908497
Whatever subject they were taking on, personal or emotional, seemed to be approached in a way that was thoughtful and abstract. We've had several threads where people had wildly different ideas about what they are about. Stipe is a thoughtful writer and a unique vocalist in a band that could seemingly do anything. They had amazing hooks and melodies and there was a lot there to ponder about if you pay attention.

Does anyone else find REM songs really difficult to sing? Michael Stipe doesn't something with his voice that's not ordinary
>>
>>122912454
He has a pretty unique tone. Never heard anyone else who sounds like him.
>>
>>122908129
They thought he’d die? Why? Suicide?
>>
>>122912546
Assuming he is referring to people thinking Michael had aids because he is a skinny bald guy
>>

Turns out he's just vegan
