>>122909089The 1980s were terrible. I can't even think about it without tearing up. So much death. Everywhere I looked, unending catastrophe. Every single person I knew died of HIV sooner or later. At one point I was going to a new funeral at least once or twice a week. That fucking disease tore apart everything and everyone I ever loved. And the way we were completely neglected... there was just no help. We were totally helpless. There was nowhere to turn to. Nobody gave a fuck about us. Sometimes people would hold their breath when you walked by to not catch your disease. I'm very lucky to be alive, but you couldn't pay me to go back. I don't think I could ever experience anything like that ever again and make it out okay. I lost everything.
