In terms of cultural impact, kinda.
In terms of content, it's probably closer to Fall Out Boy.
But the best comparison on both fronts is really Imagine Dragons. Rose to popularity in the early 2010s with really straight played pop music, produced a few good but generic songs. Was generally enjoyed.
Reached their commercial peak from 2017-2019, despite staying pop they carved out their own style of bombast and quirkiness, yet this style started to become associated with pop-culture sludge. Hate-base starts to rise after massive overplay.
Starts to fall off 2020-2023, tries to go more experimental but is unable to be anything greater than pop schmucks, all attempts at uniqueness fall flat and the band starts to throw large quantities of music at the wall, ends up tiring out their fanbase and become a normie punching bag example of bad pop, just as Ed Sheeran, Maroon 5, Justin Bieber, Nickelback, Limp Bizkit, Creed, Starship and Poison were before.
In 2024, they have truly fallen off and struggle to get a fraction of the success they had with previous work.

Fall Out Boy is perfect. generic, shallow, and constantly adjusting for the widest target audience possible.

The comparison is better if you take into account the "at least they weren't Nickelback/Michael Bay" stuff

Actually Chad and Michael Bay are very similar

00s Fall Out Boy were sell outs but they still filtered out a lot of Bros

>constant stream of new releases, more than almost any other band
>critically well recieved but accessible enough for normies
>dabbles in many different genres at a surface level
>generally lighthearted but not a joke/parody band
yep
