She's 71 years old. How is she going down music history, /mu/tants?

on my dick hopefully, bc she can still get it

People say this because Girls Just Want to Have Fun is still so ubiquitous, so popular, that people forget her biggest hit is actually Time After Time.
>>
>>122914516
Time After Time has twice more streams than the #1 Madonna song
>>
>>122914504
Came in here to post this: >>122914516 word for word.
>>
>>122914516

Are you talking about that "Popular" song by the Weeknd where Madonna is a minor feature? Grim if so.
>>122914704
She Bop is a terrible tune, the others are alright. Time After Time is great and became a standard.
>>
>>122914914
>She Bop
filtered it's a masterpiece
>>
>>122914504
I liked her better than Madonna on a musical level but I don’t care for her worldview personally

honestly a pop legend

picrel is a 10/10 pop album and only dedicated contrarians disagree
>>
>>122915306
My only issue with this is that it has too many covers.
>When Were you Mine
>Money Changes Everything
>All Through The Night
>Girls Just Want to Have Fun
are all covers that I know of, there's probably more. I would have liked more originality on this album, other than that, it's good.
>>
>>122914704
We are the world doesn't count as a fucking Cindy Lauper song you mong
>>
>>122914504
Im curious about her catalogue post 80s, does she have good stuff from the 90s or 00s?
>>
>>122915833
She helped make it memorable, though. The bridge with Michael Jackson, Huey Lewis, Cyndi Lauper and Kim Carnes shoots up this song into the stratosphere, Cyndi's solo in special.
>>
>>122915860
Ok I'll give you that

more like Cyndi LARPER
>>
>>122915847
No, as you can see >>122914704, she didn't have a top 40 past the 80's. She did some interesting covers in between, but no outstanding original material.
Her output is full of covers. Some ok albums from the 90's and 00's:
Twelve Deadly Cyns...and Then Some
The Body Acoustic
At Last

I like her cover of "The World is Stone"

>but I don’t care for her worldview personally
BOO HOO SHE SAID SOMETHING UNKIND ABOUT ORANGE MAN SAVE ME, BEN SHAPIRO
>>
Twelve Deadly Cyns [Epic, 1994]
The statistics are brutal. The six best tracks on this 10-year retrospective, arrayed all in a row after a bombastic new Mann-Weil cover, are all from her decade-old debut, and if "When You Were Mine" had been thrown in the figure would have been seven. So you decide--wanna buy this for "True Colors" and "I Think About You"? I thought not, and that was without mentioning the "Girls" remix or the Mary Chapin Carpenter song about pigeons. Maybe she was so set on fun because she guessed it would be hell from there on in. C

that's an unreleased demo by the songwriter, moron
>>
It's true that she only wrote one hit, Time After Time.
>>
>>122916426
So? It's Robert Hazard's song, written and recorded by him. I have no animosity towards Lauper, but she lied for years about having written Girls.., when she simply covered it, and imbecile fans like you believe it.
>>
>she is...not a Jew
Somehow I always thought she was.
>>
>>122916469
>"that's an unreleased demo by the songwriter, moron"
>hurrrrr you think she wrote it den durrrrrrr
you're a fucking moron
he's an industry songwriter who made a demo of his song to sell it
by your tard reasoning, 99% of all pop music are cover versions because they were written and demoed by fat old songwriters
>>
>>122916426
Hazard performed the song at his concerts.
Fromt the "Let the Canary Sing" documentary:
>Hazard often performed "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" live; Lauper's producer, Rick Chertoff, took her to one of Hazard's shows. She wasn't all that impressed, especially with the song's lyrics, which seemed to imply that women's enjoyment rested on their sex lives.
>"Every time we want to have fun, we're whores," Lauper said in Let the Canary Sing, a 2023 documentary about her life. If she was going to record the song, she wanted to make sure she transformed its message.
It's a cover.

>retard zoomer doesn't know what a term means
>comes up with his own retard zoomer definition
>refuses to be corrected
so sick of this, bros
>>
>>122916543
It's a cover, wether you like it or not. Harzard wrote it and played it at his concerts. Cyndi's producer saw potential, offered money and Lauper covered it. A song doesn't need to be released through a recording label to be covered. The national anthem was never released as a single by its creators, but it's been covered several times by a multitude of artists. Get over it.
>>
>>122916575
you're a fucking moron
>>
>>122914516
More or less. Icon for the gays though, and symbolic of the 80s
>>
>>122916575
So 99% of pop songs are cover versions? Wow, TIL, kind of makes the term useless.
>>
>>122916581
Dude, you talked out your ass and got called on it. You have no leg to stand on and have the gall to call others "zoomers." Be an adult and concede the point.
>>
>>122914504
>71
She’s a decade older than I would have guessed.
>>
>>122916575
Nah, other anon is right. Roy Orbison's I Drove All Night is a cover of Cyndi's Lauper's despite him recording his version first because he died and it didn't eventually come out until after her version. Neither of them wrote it and there's a good chance the songwriters performed it but it doesn't matter. It's a Cyndi Lauper song.

The term goes back to the pre-vinyl days when a song would become a hit and other performers would rush to record and release a competing version of the same song. Didn't matter who wrote it, the first released for sale was the original and the rest were referred to as cover versions.

Your definition doesn't even make sense, because what's the threshold? How many people need to be in earshot of a songwriter performing their song until it gets classified as the original version and everything after that is called a cover? Or is every song not written by the artist to be considered a cover? Dumb.
>>
>>122916519
>>122916605
You're thinking Max Martin's production style – exclusively write/produce for other artists. Girls Just Want To Have Fun is not the case. Hazard didn't write the song with the specific intention of selling it to another artist, he was approached with a proposal before releasing it.
>Robert Hazard didn't even sing on his biggest hit. In 1982, Cyndi Lauper covered Hazard's "Girls Just Want to Have Fun," a track that he originally wrote and recorded on a 1979 demo. Hazard's version was never released.
It's a cover.
>>122916707
Roy Orbison never wrote I Drove All Night, he had nothing to do with it. Songwriting duo Tom Kelly and Billy Steinberg did and wanted to sell it to Roy Orbison, with Cyndi releasing it first, then Roy posthumously. Again, Harzard's song is not a Max Martin music factory situation.

Don't care about what you think classifies as a "cover." Facts show it's a cover. Cyndi Lauper herself admits to it in her own "Let The Canary Sing" documentary >>122916526 and no amount of times you call someone a "moron" will change that. Seethe, cope & dilate, tranny.
